For a second I thought it was the review for the product.

  • Been on the lookout for such cases, hopefully a slimmer form factor will show up soon

This is so dumb I love it.

Remember when shitty phone manufacturers just let you insert a microsd card to expand your memory? Well now you cant so you can attach a huge enclosure on the back of your phone via usb cable =P

So f'n stupid isn't it. I used to have a tonne of media and apps on my phone using micro SD. I never worried about running out of storage; and transferring to a new phone was a 2 second card swapout. Now I feel like I'm always checking space left, and moving media over to my home NAS. I know these manufacturers are expecting us to go all in on cloud storage, but I'll never trust cloud storage as my only copy.

This is going to cook your iphone. If you haven't seen the temperature warning/lock yet, like my 12 mini often refuses to charge past 80% if in a case, that's the way to get it.

    • I like the design…
      but heat plus heat…

    • iPhones, so hot right now.

    • I don't think this charges your phone. It's just a convenient way to mount the external SSD.

      • Not only it can charge your phone - there's a separate input on the device for power delivery, PD - but also SSDs create a lot of heat.

So your iphone is going to heat up if this drive is plugged in and stuck to magsafe. And charging at the same time.
So you may get limited functionality - from dimmed screen, not charging past 80%, slowing down to locking out completely.

Honestly, seems it's a useless gimmick.

0.7 watts in standby? Is that even legal?

By 2010, regulations were in place in most developed countries restricting standby power of devices sold to one watt (and half that from 2013).

  • Most 2230 enclosures have thermal issues lol Add that to a phone that’s known to burn 🫣

    • Add a thermal pad…simples

  • Why not just use off the shelf external ssd like a T7/T9? They’re not much bigger.

    • That doesn’t charge your phone.
