ASUS ROG Flow X13 Laptop: Ryzen 9 6900HS, 13.4" IPS 120Hz (2 in 1) , 16/512GB, 680M iGPU $1197 + Del ($0 to Metro) @ Officeworks

790

So this deal from January is back. A mix of features which some people might find useful together - small form factor + powerful/efficient Ryzen CPU (better than current gen Ryzen 7 U-series iirc) + decent iGPU + long battery life + touchscreen.

I personally wouldn't call it a gaming laptop, but rather an ultrabook that can lightly game. ASUS 14” Vivobook S Flip would be in a similar category but more expensive.

Available at around half of OW stores from what I can see, and delivery is also available.

OW-only Model GV301RA-LJ089W (derived from GV301RA-LJ046W)

One of best form factor laptops imo. I have the older x13 with a 3050ti. If you're picking up this 680M it runs most mainstream games (CS2, league, at 1080p or 1440p) 100fps, and all other OS activities or photo editing etc should be really quick, 1.2k seems pretty good for that.

Anything more intense like Elden Ring, Helldivers 2 I recommend looking at ones with graphics on it.

    • Hows the battery life, fan noise and temperature without any gaming?

      • +1

It does get hot without proper airflow and during high workloads eg. Rendering or high ram/CPU usage it can get loud. But if you put it in tent mode it cools it down quite fast.

There is also a silent mode that reduces all sound and it's real good but it does become hot after awhile so if using it on lap or on bed it becomes HOT longer usages 1-2 hours.

Outside of that like watching shows and browsing or using word, PowerPoint it's pretty quiet all the time.

        • @daniesaurs how is the palm rejection on this laptop. I'll be using it for a lot of note taking and filling up documents so palm rejection is important for me. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

On one hand, the 680M is very impressive and it's my daily driver in terms of gaming. Very battery efficient.

On the other, 1.2k for laptop without dgpu, even a 3050, is kinda a downer. 680M is impressive for ultralights, not so in fully sized laptops.

    • +4

This isn’t a full sized laptop

    • +4

It's only 13 inch and 1.3kg, basically like putting a phone on top of a 1kg laptop.

      • -2

But that's the thing, that 300g can fit some extra battery and a dgpu. So this isn't like some cutting edge build. There is a 3050 variant of this, and we've seen 3050 laptops for cheaper than this.

Idk, maybe I'm just being nitpicky, but with Acer Swift go being often sub 1k for a current gen I5, and 1.3kg laptops with 3050 being same price before (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/814249) it's just hard to spend that money on this laptop.

      • +11

It's also a giant doorstop that weighs 2.4kg and has a tiny battery life.

        Apples to oranges.

        • -6

of course it's more heavy (just keep in your mind the wight of the cooling system in the LOQ), it's a gaming laptop after all, and as all gaming laptops battery life is not good (especially at the 1218 Aussie dollars price point)

But if not into gaming, then isn't the Zenbook 14 oled is better with a much high end screen?
Also just read some reviews thermal on this thing is not that cool …

  • +2

seems the 680m is pretty much equal to my super old (2017) gtx 1050 mobile

  • Would be awesome to see a genuine gaming tablet with iGPU that you can connect a controller or simple 60% kbm too.

    • -1

Steam Deck/ROG Ally or any of those gaming handhelds?

      • Sd would be 75% the performance of 680M

      • Moreso iPad size, could even be a decent bit thicker at the back with a kickstand. Something like the Microsoft surface with a detachable keyboard would be awesome but I've had bad dealings with previous models so preferably from another competitor. Has to have enough power to run windows applications too mainly Photoshop.

Minisforum v3 tablet is coming, but unclear on build quality

      • +1

Nice thanks for this! My prayers have been answered at least it's a start. First gen of the tech so I won't be opting in just yet but needed a company to start producing this form factor hopefully it's popular enough so others follow.

        • +1

Oh and I should also have mentioned the rog flow z13 series.

          • +1

@Sindex: Nice I thought I had saw this but when going back on a X13 series couldn't find anything about a detachable keyboard and thought I imagined it. Good to see it's already a thing I see it being a popular form factor, once the technology improves I'll definitely looking at getting a iGPU version due to battery life over a dGPU

          • +1

@Sindex: The Z13 with RTX4060 kills the Minisforum v3 for gaming specs, but it is probably still going to be more $$$. As a Z13 owner I can tell you it is absolutely amazing. Get rid of Armoury Crate and install G-Helper and you can game pretty well on something that is virtually silent.

I almost pulled the trigger today on the X13 as a second laptop because I sometimes can't be bothered walking to where the Z13 is in my house, or don't want to pack it in a backpack to go out (I currently use a Surface Laptop 3 for being lazy). I promised myself if I saw this at $1,197 again I'd grab it, but I haven't.

            • @lansalot: I would love a z13 with a 4060 :) how's the battery when you're not gaming? Can you live with the detachable keyboard for office work? The z13 seems like the closest thing to an 'everything' device (gaming/video work, productivity, drawing/writing, tablet for reading) but I'm concerned it might suffer in some area.

  • OP's deal or HP deal below for AAA gaming on low settings external monitor 1080p min 30 fps+? Seems the HP better use case as GPU 3050

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/838534

    • But will Asus build quality be better than HP?

      • The flow x13 is a higher end brand so it should be better built.

    • What are the other use cases? Only gaming on an external monitor? What will you use the laptop for when unplugged?

      • Plugged in 95% of time and mainly for office work and occasional gaming. Not interested in portable gaming. When plugged in it will be into an external monitor

        • +1

Better off going one of the 4060 prebuilts posted here for $1k~ or less than getting a cheapo laptop for some office work. Can get a 4060 build for as low as $800 than you've got another $500 to spend on a cheapo laptop for basic office work.

Other alternative is wait on another deal on this laptop with 4060. Screen is crap but because you'll be using external monitor most of the time it's negligible.

These are pretty different laptops and depend what your usage will be like. Personal opinion after using both lightweight gaming laptops and bulky 15.6'' ones, the performance trade off is not worth the extra weight and bulk.

Best setup imo is desktop with gfx for gaming and then lightweight laptop for light gaming and taking out with. If you want an all in one setup then I would go for an expensive but lightweight laptop, G14 would be better than X13 imo. Every other game will get FSR support making it even better framewise.

For this budget I would look at secondhand x13 or G14. 3050ti is capable for 1080p gaming including Cyberpunk, Helldivers 2, Diablo 4…it does heat up quick and become loud though but that is to be expected.

There are also Steam Deck, ROG Ally and other handhelds that are pretty good now for portable gaming.

  • Could this run marvel’s Spider-Man? Thanks

  • This would probably be better than Surface in terms of performance

    not sure about build quality

  • +1

i have the 3050 ti variant with 32gb of ram, an insane powerhouse for something so small

  • Much noise?

  • Any discounted gift cards at the moment?

  • I am tossing up between this and a ROG Ally - the use case will be mostly for docked (i.e. connected to a screen); but with the convenience of being able to take it between different locations.
How does this compare, gaming wise, to the Ally?

  • Anyone used a system with AMD's iGPU for screen recording? … if so … tell me about fps etc achieved?
