  • Does anyone know if this is Oled or IPS? Bunch of conflicting information on the page…

    • +1

      About to ask the same.

    • same/similar laptop at wireless1says wuxga, but differant model number, looks like officeworks have their own version, no idea, but for the price cant go wrong

      GV301RA-LJ089W - OW

      GV301RA-LJ046W - w1

      • Even the spec sheet on OW page says ips

        • Is the display 500 nits?
I can't find the brightness of the display on this model anywhere

          • +1

@OK7940hs: Yeah no idea mate. The specs on this one are so difficult to find. It seems the listings info is all kinds of out of wack.
Best bet would be to go in store if you can and see what it has on the box

            • @ihuntbargains: So far I've heard about a 500 nit 1920x1200 panel, a 550 nit 3840x2400 panel and I think this model either has a 500 nit or 350 nit panel. Still a bit confused though

              • @OK7940hs: There's a billion different hardware variations. You're not going to find an accurate answer without going in store to be honest.

                • @ihuntbargains: Someone else with the GV301RA model said that its 350 nits

                  • @OK7940hs: there is a BUNCH of GV301RA versions.
That's just the base part of the serial. its the part after the - that identifies the specific one.

      • Wuxga is just the word for 1920 x 1200 resolution.

Going off Asus' Web page (at least the 2022 model) it is an "IPS-level" display which probably is a TN panel that looks better than a regular TN panel from days of old?(IPS equivalent as I've just been taught)

    • +2

Should be IPS. The ROG Flow series has never had OLED although there is a 1440p model.

    • While officeworks call it an IPS display, Asus call it an IPS-level display, so it's likely a TN panel that still looks decent.

      • +4

Nah they are not TN panels. Just that LG has a trademark on the name IPS so other screen manufacturers call it by other names.

        • +1

That sounds highly unlikely to me lol, have a source for that?
IPS-level is meant to indicate it is of comparable experience but not actually using in-plane switching. It may not be TN, but it's not IPS (just supposedly looks like it, I haven't seen the display in person).

Here's an upvote for the dad joke punchline

  • steal, good find

  • +3

    IPS, not OLED

  • Excellent price for what it offers.

  • Interesting that the official spec sheet shows that models with the 6900hs should have a 3050 inside. Likely typo and has the 6800 instead

    Asus spec sheet:
    https://rog.asus.com/au/laptops/rog-flow/rog-flow-x13-2022-s…

Looks like it is a 3050 according to model number

    • Can someone confirm if it includes the 3050?

    • So this can play light PC games?

      • Without the dedicated gpu the apu alone can play games. You're talking can play the latest triple As just at medium or so.

For something like final fantasy xiv you can push that to high.

    • OW model number GV301RA-LJ089W
      ASUS model number GV301RA-LJ046W

Definitely no 3050, and very likely 6800

      • I think it is more like a 064 instead of 046

  • Hmmm I’m about to pull the trigger on ASUS ROG Ally. Maybe this and just use my controllers, since the battery life is a lot better.

    • +4

Up to 12.2 hours battery life.

This doesn't mean while gaming. You'll only get <some> fraction of that.

    • this has a slower cpu and igpu than the ROG Ally

      • Sorry what? How do you figure that?

        • +3

ROG ally is Zen 4 + RDNA 3 vs this which is Zen 3 + RDNA 2, at similar tdp levels the rog ally would demolish this, even comparing max tdp vs max tdp the ROG Ally would be faster

          • @Kazusa: Rog ally still wins then. Just need a jb gc deal. Too bad OW doesn’t sell it.

          • +1

@Kazusa: Rdna 3 was only 10% faster. It is only about 2 tpd lower for similar performance between the 780m and 680m, and that's 780m using 7500mt ram. The 6400mt ram in the ally will bottleneck the 780m even further, closing that gap.

Source: gpd win max 2 comparison vs the refresh.

  • +1

680M may even cost 2gb for graphics card memory.
I would pay $400 for upgrading 32gb ram.

Deal model is the 2022 model with quite a number of issues - immediate update to latest BIOS highly recommended:

    - Sleep issues leading to premature battery wear. Multiple reports that battery deg is high on all 21/22/23 models
    - Overheating issues due to the slim profile and powerful fans being dust magnets
    - Garbage stock MTK WiFi, budget for a replacement Intel card

    • Why Asus always having sleep issues?

      • Inadequate testing, rushed R&D and treating laptops as "update it later" parts

The Flow and Ally confirm to never buy the first 2 generations of an ASUS machine because whilst they can make decent parts, they cannot integrate for shit

      • +7

        its not asus. its windows

  • WUXGA is just a name for 1920x1200 so I'm not sure what you mean by "screen likely WUXGA"?

    • +6

you think I even know what im talking about lol

      • -1

Also it's IPS and not OLED so please edit your post.

        • +1

I mean, we know that now, but the officeworks ad says OLED.

  • still waiting for a decent 4070 model to upgrade from my 3050 ti model

ASUS have provided OW a custom version of GV301RA-LJ046W to avoid pissing off other retailers

    Ryzen 7 6800HS, Radeon 680M, 13.4" WUXGA IPS 100% sRGB HDR Touch 120Hz, 62WHh battery

Based on the Reddit reviews of the build quality on the 2022 models, unless you need to game at 720p, save $100 and get the Acer Swift Go 14

    • +1

This is AMD Ryzen 9-6900HS not 7

  • +1

Am I missing something here? Doesn't seem that great of a deal.

    Only 680m with 16gb ram for $1197?

    • -4

lol you look at specs? I thought everybody just buy what the bots upvote here

      • +1

I don't know much about gaming computers and was going to buy looking at upvotes. But then checked the specs and compared with other gaming laptops and stopped.

        • you should have bought 2 and not do the second part

          • @abctoz: I am poor man otherwise would have done that

        • It's one of the kind that you can take it out daily and plug in the external graphic card for real game playing.

          • @vihand: The external graphic card works well?
Dont see it on sale often.

            • @congo: I would probably buy the 2nd hand one. Some users reported connectivity issue with the external graphic card.

    • +3

Its only good for the small form factor.
Not really for gaming unless you get the external GPU

    • +7

you're not buying this as a full on gaming laptop, its for the small factor, 2 in 1, good for travel, some light gaming as a bonus

    • +2

Specs-wise, it's nothing special. What makes this laptop interesting is the size, weight, foldability, 120hz TOUCH screen (bezels tho) with a good CPU and an okay GPU for the time. At this price, there's nothing that matches what this laptop can do. Other laptops come close, but they compromise on one of the above listed features. I'm not saying this is an amazing laptop, I'm just saying it has a unique combination of features that someone may pay the premium this laptop is asking for.

      • Do you reckon this will be the best that a budget of around $1200 can get in the next couple of months or should I be waiting for boxing day sales, new years or whatever sale might come up?

        • Depends what you're using it for, and what expectations you have of it. For light gaming, it is capable. For media consumption, it's good, as it has touch and can fold 360. Can't say how good it is for productivity given the small screen, but it does have the specs to support moderate loads and you could always plug it into a monitor. Can't speak for the battery life with real world usage. It's also quite small and light at 1.3kg, which makes it a great carry-around laptop. The screen appears excellent and the resolution is fine. Forget what other people say about the resolution. The 120hz is generally unnecessary, as it would sap the battery life more than being useful, but I suppose it is nice to have.
All things considered, this represents great value at $1,200. I would get one myself, but I already have a laptop.

    • +3

this is a small form factor

      has a touch screen

you realise those features usually costs a premium yeah?

  • can anyone canfirm whether this has a 3050 as the the model number suggests?

    • It says AMD Radeon 680M graphics processor in specs

  • What kind of games can the 680M run ?

    • +1

      https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-680M-GPU-Benchmarks…

According to the site, it sits above the 970M and MX450, but below the 980M and 1050Ti mobile. Going down to the bottom of the page, you will see a list of games tested. GTA5 on high at 1080P returns 50fps, Doom Eternal around 150fps same settings, Elden Ring at 37fps and Diablo 4 at 39fps, just to name a few. That's quite decent if you're only into older or less demanding games.

  • -1

A gaming laptop. With no dedicated GPU????

    • +1

The gimmick is you buy the external graphics addon for $$$$.
      https://rog.asus.com/au/external-graphic-docks/rog-xg-mobile…

      • How much is it?

      • Yep a gimmick that's flashy and overpriced. Like Alienware Graphics Amplifier

    • +1

who the hell told you this is a gaming laptop

      • -1

        Rog = republic of gamers.

The listing even says it's a gaming laptop.

        • -3

and is it hard for you to comprehend that a 13’ device with touch screen wont be a standaed gaming laptop or does literally everything need to be spoonfed to you?

    • IGPU a little faster than a several year old GTX970M

  • (Wrong reply)

  • +1

Tempted. But resolution is a bit weak?
    1440p would have been better

    • Yea wish it’s 2k, after using the surface pro 1080p feels a bit dated

  • Nice, I can't wait to run Minesweeper at 4k on this!

  • 1.3kg

    I want

    • ok so with the iGPU only can play older titles no issues, but will low setting for latest AAA titles still be playable?

      • +1

If you want to play the latest AAA titles then buy a laptop with some gaming chops - not this one.

Don't start out with a laptop that barely does what you want !

  • Why would anyone think this would be OLED?

    • Part of the description in the officeworks page does mention OLED. As to where they got that info? ¯\(ツ)/¯

      • oh ok .. that's weird but explains the confusion.

I had the intel version when they were first released .. screen is very nice regardless that it's not OLED .. but then the touchscreen lifted at the edge, so I got a full refund from JB after about 11 mths of use.

  • But does it play BG3?

    • Yes on 1080p

      • It will but it will stutter. The fastest 680m (paired with 7500mt 32gb ram) can barely do 30fps, and it's not stable.

With the x13 flow, it has a much slower ram, which will bottle neck the 680m. I'll assume it's more 720p.

        • It's quite playable for the 680m if you don't mind leaning on fsr 2. I've been playing at 1440p with fsr performance, it's around 40 fps in demanding overworld areas and more like 60-80 in dungeons.

          • @snep: It looks so bad with fsr though lol. So much artifacts and smudges, 720p often looks better.

            • @Wonderfool: FSR 1 was pretty poor, but 2 was a substantial improvement. I definitely find it better than raw 720p, not to mention you get a full resolution hud/menu. FSR 2 occasionally looks bad, 720p always does.

  • I got one with the R9 5900HS and RTX 3050. It's a good ultrabook (light, well built, 2-in-1, strong specs, good performance) that can also game a little. Esport titles aren't a problem but I would not recommend heavy AAA gaming. It's well priced when compared to other high-end ultrabook like Dell XPS13 or HP Spectre. It's advertised with the proprietary Xgmobile eGPU but they're super expensive and limited stock, so you should ignore the eGPU. I may be wrong but since the 6000 CPU, it also has support for usb4
