Samsung HW-Q990D/XY Soundbar $1275 ($1999 RRP) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys Commercial (Membership Required)

240

Similar to this deal, but some sharper pricing for those with access to The Good Guys Commercial.

The main upgrade over the 2023 'C' model is HDMI 2.1 with support for 4K 120Hz pass-through. It's worth the price if that feature's worth something to you (e.g., gaming), otherwise you probably can't go wrong with an inevitable run-out deal on the Q990C - which has been as low as $947 back in January.

Alongside the flagship Q990D, there are two other new release 'D' models also available with decent savings:

    Soundbar $1275

Wow… Costs more than my TV.

You need a new TV too

    • +1

Must be a low to mid budget TV.

      • -3

or one bought as a bargain.

  • This or a Sonos Arc for an LG CX?

    • +1

      Sonos for music.
      Samsung for everything else.

      • -2

None of them. Soundbar/sound system= Yamaha.

    • +2

I have heard the arc, the beam and these Samsung. I also own a lot of decent hifi , likes of krix, vaf, klipsch,Jamo,Paradigm. For a home theatre with atmos, these are spectacular and incredible value for money. For music the 990c are decent but not hifi. Apparently these 990d improves music as well making it Superb all-rounder. I don't own one yet to confirm this.

So my recommendation get a sonos dedicated speakers for music and these for movies. Alternatively just get a pair of nice passives and pair them with a wiim amp for $500 for the money saved from buying these instead of arc plus sub.

I'm saying this as a Sonos fan and owning a fair bit of Sonos, the Samsung simply blows it away, is an unfair comparison.

Good price. Note: the rear speakers power leads are 1.5m, if someone finds a good replacement lec c7 right angle cable, please let me know.

I've looked everywhere and everything available is too long and sticks out the bottom of the speaker making them not flat/flush with the surface. UGH I had to make tiny little feet extensions but it looks bad. 1st world problems reee

Good test for your Dolby Atmos:
On Netflix, find the show called Dark. Season 1, episode 2, at 28:02
The rain on the roof is seriously crazy for a home audio setup

  • I think I need my angry face. This was $1500 in the education store the other day

    • It still is $1500 on the EDU store… I checked earlier today twice incase they price matched the above price but they are not when I checked.

Price is now $1206 on TGG Commercial. Purchased one, Thanks OP.

    • +1

Still 1275 here. Plus 26 delivery. Total 1301.

      • +1

Just clicked on the OP's link again and it definitely is $1206 for the Q990D for me. Maybe it's different in this region (Gold Coast, QLD) or maybe my employer offers better prices. I'm unsure!

        • Awesome price, good purchase!

      • +1

Same,1275 plus delivery. I think it's based on the account type that got you ggc. Unlikely to be region dependent pricing I think.

  • The other upgrade over last year is a new sound mode for late night viewing. It pushes more (?all) of the front channels to the rear speakers (closer to your ears) so you disturb other people less at night.

I have 990c, it's good, recommended if you don't want a full size system.

    • It also improves the bass response and music playback. Also it has 2 dedicated upward firing drivers. All this based on reviews.

  • Is it good to mount the rear speakers into the roof? I'm not really sure where else I could put them.

    • +2

The rear speakers have up-firing drivers (on the top). Probably best to have them on a stand or similar, around sitting head height, so they can also send sound towards the ceiling.

They have drivers in three directions (front, side, and top) you can see here.

Otherwise there's support for having the rear speakers sitting beside the soundbar itself, which is where mine are placed 95% of the time.

  • You could if you had power outlets that is hidden by the speakers to avoid dangling wires. Else wait for mounting dream stands that has an atl of $89 on ozb from Amazon. From memory thrice at $99 and once at $89 in the recent past.

    • Can you link to which mounting stands are the correct ones for these? Thanks!

      • +1

It's 129.99 now if you wait for a sale you can get them for 100 or 90 if lucky.

        • Thanks!

I have these stands, if you want to pass the L shape cord through these stands make sure you get the right size L shape as mentioned by IrrumboRex.

          • @BellaWii: I'd suggest first trying with the stock cables that is included with the soundbar. It is already the right shape and the right length for most people using the mounting dream stands. Get the extensions only if you really need them.

I believe the length of the cables on the q990d is longer and the perfect length.

  • This extension cable fits perfectly and passes through speaker stands.

    • Good price but $15 shipping for a pair kills the deal unless you can pickup from Auburn (for nsw).

      • I paid $32.86 for 2 shipped to 3046. Postage cost is location dependent if I am not mistaken.

  • +1

I just picked this up from the good guys, matching commercial. They lowered the price to $1243 for me.

Interestingly, I took the quote the JB Hifi since I was in the area, and they counter offered with $1996.
    What a joke.

    • May I ask kindly sir - how did you do that? I called my TGG store and they refused straightaway. Also refused in the chat.

      • Hi mate.

I just went and asked. I had seen that gentlemen for many purchases prior who always matched the good guys commercial.

He is now the sales manager but wasn't for previous purchases

Thank you. I couldn’t wait. Created a commercial account with ART and got it activated in a day ( today=Sunday) ! Bought it for same price -$1270 by price matching it in store. I believe the person over phone wasn’t clear about this.
