Would we get on top 200 bucks signup bonus? Further down the page it mentions also this.

Prices are not the best but with 200 + velocity points perfect to use for a few months.

    • Do you have any plan with better rate in NSW?

      • +3

Red Energy is cheaper for me.

        • Thanks. AGL is still giving me better rate in my area.

          • @kendo: AGL giving me single rate + gas than my current suppliers
Red only cheaper for their TOU
RED also have a reasonable 4-8pm weekday peak, with the rest being off-peak, unlike AGL where peak and shoulder cover every waking hour.
            Western Sydney

        • I've just switched to Red Energy. 15k bonus Qantas points when signingup & 2 points per $1 spent.
100% Australian company, happy to support the local economy :)

    • +1

Yeh wondering this too. If the $200 credit that’s mentioned on the page applies on top of the points, that’s almost worth moving for a couple months to get the points and credit and then move back to my other provider.

    • If you want all the points on offer you'd need to remain connected for 12 months, but yes, might be still worthwhile.

      • +3

45 days would get you 25k points plus the $200 credit. So a pretty good benefit for 2 months. And then move back to my old provider with better rates and possibly even get their sign up bonus again.

        • +1

Yeah, probably worthwhile for some :)

    • anyone knows if the $200 credit will carry forward if monthly billing is picked?

      • VIC here: $150 credit mentioned on order page (took printout) and T&Cs when going through order process.

      • It should be an account credit, so it should do.

    • Yes.

      Source: I just transferred.

  • Surprisingly competitive rates for me in metro Melbourne (Jemena). Currently paying 22.9c per kw/h on Nectr, AGL is 25c, and comparable daily charge at 90c.

Gas is 3.13c per mj compared to 2.6c that I pay on CovaU, but AGLs supply charge is a couple cents cheaper.

  • Poor FIT rates for me in QLD. Can I just transfer with this offer, get the bonus velocity and 200 and then move back out in a month?

    • +1

Yes you can. Need to check when the Velocity points get credited though.

      • +2

The website says it takes 45 days.

    • +1

Just keep in mind you won't get the bonus 5000 points until 12 months in.

  • +2

I've saved actual thousands from my last winter's electricity bill by switching from AGL to Origin. So just be careful what the unit rate charges, and if you have solar, what they pay for your excess.

  • +1

Does anyone know what's going to happen with the QLD energy rebate credit if it's unused and we change providers? Will it be refunded?

    • I could transfer the energy rebate from one Origin account to a new one last year but it says currently it is not eligible for refund/payout.

The offer is running until 30/06 according to the T&Cs, until then you can use up the credit?

  • $150 in vic? Or just me?

    • Yes, and mentioned in T&C in last step of the order. I took a screenshot just in case.
So it should stack with the Velocity points (20,000 for electricity).

      • I just signed up, hopefully it would stack. Cheers

  • damm just joined 2 days ago with $175 credit. could it be double dip?

    • 10 day cooling off?

      • thought about it - wondering if it is worth hassell compare to $175.
also, asking fellow bargainers any way to claim both ?

  • From experience, do you really need to wait 45 days to get the points?

  • Can you combine this with any cashback offers?

    • If you are a Westpac customer: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/832440

      • +1

that deal has disappeared from our westpac rewards, I was going to sign up today, but they must have withdrawn it early…..so, no. And it also has in the T&C can't be combined with these deals

        • Aha, my bad. Good catch.

          • +1

@j1nx: this deal is better anyway, if you are Velocity member. I would get 20k points (worth $100 to convert to a gift card) as I will leave after I receive the points and $200 credit for electricity. We only have electricity here. The old deal was $150 credit and $100 with the westpac visa prepaid card offer

            • @souths123: Yeah good call. I’m currently getting slightly better rates with Red so I’m thinking I do the same, use up the credit then switch back.

    • not sure. I assume you mean if you do it through Shopback? I forgot about that and signed direct. Possibly you can get a cashback deal as well, but might have to stay a certain amount of time to actually get it approved and paid out

  • +1

Exisiting costumers get 3,000 points when they switch.

Which costumes do existing customers need to wear to be eligible for the points?

    • I not sure if changing names on the account when signing up constitutes a new customer. Would really like to know.

      • Just call and organise a cancel on X date, then get another family member to call in and say they are moving in on the same date to get all the points (if you have other family members living with you and that have a Velocity account).

        • So wouldn’t you get charged a disconnection fee?

          • @nightelves: Scrap that, you are right :(

            • @SimAus007: Do you not have a smart meter? In vic I’m 90% sure you don’t get charged and connection fees as no physical attendance is required.

  • -2

Whats 30,000 points worth? best and worst case

    • $390 based on selling it through classified.

      • Thank you

  • +1

I just switched away from AGL for gas. Globird has cheaper daily charge (by nearly 40%) and usage charges across the board. We are extremely low gas users, but should save $20-$30 a month with the change.

    • Globird will pump up your rates by 70% with 2 weeks notice out of the blue. Then block you from checking new customer rates for your address.

      • They have always matched new customer rates when I have asked, or at least been super close.

This was on the electricity side tho

        • They now hide the rates if you check using your address

          • @bashar20: I did a rate update 3 weeks ago, not sure how I compared rates but it was pretty easy. Mine was about 20-30% now expensive than their offer to new customers and they pretty much matched the new customer price when I asked via email.

            • @serpserpserp: Good to know. AGL rates are half my globird. So going AGL for both.

  • Could anyone see the velocity T&C being offered on the final submit page. I could see the $150 signup for Vic but there was no mention of the velocity points at the end.

    • I took a screenshot/printout of the „Velocity offer“ ordering page as well where it lists the velocity offer, combined with the rates and my home address. Maybe repeat the initial steps and take screenshots of those pages for better peace of mind.

      • Thanks Ahara. I did that too - just found it super strange that the final T&C made zero mention of the Velocity offer but mentioned the $150 sign-up offer for Vic.

Hopefully we won’t have to chase up the points. Thanks for replying!

  • damn, was just about to sign up using the Westpac offer I saw recently in Rewards, but it has gone, was supposed to be there for a few months, which is why I hadn't done it yet….was a $100 visa gift card. Oh well, guess I will have to sign up with this one. I have velocity and I can change the 20,000 points to a gift card anyway ($100) and this was not compatible with the Westpac offer anyway…..would be one or the other. Not sure what The Good Guys deal is that they mention in T&Cs (just found the offer https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/agl-offer )

  • thanks, just signed up

  • they don't make you get a smart meter do they? We have an old style meter and single rate

  • If I already have AGL account on one property, can I still get points plus credit when I sign up for another property?

  • Existing customers will need to switch to AGL value saver plan for 12 months. I’m currently on the EV night saver plan and a good gas rate, think will lose more than 3000 velocity points worth. So no thank you.

  • Gas is almost 20c cheaper with covau but 20k points+ $150 for expensive gas for a few months seems worth it

    • +1

20k points is for electricity, I haven’t bothered changing my gas over as it takes months to properly change over etc and I already have better rates. Only extra 10k for gas

  • +1

AGL are a rip off, most expensive company I've ever been with and horrible to deal with

  • anyone know how you can tell that your Velocity info is in your AGL account once you sign up? ATM I can't see anything anywhere about it being linked in my account. I added the info yesterday during my sign up. I know technically I am not actually getting billed by AGL yet, that would happen sometime in the next week I would assume once it is taken over from Origin? This is sort of like the BUPA deal with Everyday Rewards deal. You can't see anywhere that it is on there. I ended up doing it manually as well after I signed up with BUPA just to be sure (through the ER app) BUPA reckons it is on there.

    • Wouldn't worry about it if you did it during sign up, You won't get billed by AGL until a month after it swaps over. I think the points will be in our account before we receive our first bill anyway since they say within 45 days

      • I only just got a bill from Origin earlier this month, so the next meter read won't be for another 2.5 months………..I am not sure why my account hasn't been transferred across to AGL yet as I did it on the 10/6. Still not connected with AGL. Not sure if this is because my last quarterly bill hasn't been paid yet with Origin. That is due to be debited on 24/4

        • I have a smart meter so it’s all done electronically, usually it won’t switch over until the cooling off period of 10 business days has elapsed.

If you don’t have a smart meter perhaps after the 10 business day period they will organise a special read to be done and switch you over

          • @Brick50: We have analogue. This is the first time i have ever switched, after nearly 40 years on the same supplier (used to be integral, then they switched to origin… I've switched plan many times, but never supplier). As long as i don't get billed for a special read… which i haven't requested. I don't care, as long as it goes through and i get my $200 credit and velocity points.

  • It's weird. I signed up, but only electricity went through. I will have to message them about gas later?

  • Signed up. Got access to my account, it says on the page: Your first bill will be discounted by $200.00

My first bill will be significantly less than $200 - if it's not applied as an account credit I'm outta there after the second month.

    • I had that showing as well, not that info is gone and account is showing as $0.00 balance. I assume the credit gets applied to the bill once it is generated?(in my case roughly another 79 days). Origin, adds the rebate amount onto your account so you can see it as a credit balance to towards your next bill.

      • Does the remaining credit stay in account if monthly bill amount is less than $200.

        • I would imagine so. In the end Origin contacted and gave a much better deal to stay with them, even with the credit and velocity points

          • @souths123: Mate do you mind sharing what Origin offered you to make you stay with them? I am currently with Origin too so maybe it will help me negotiating with the retention team. Much appreciated!

            • +1

@hohoisme: 28% less than the reference price, I also asked for a $100 credit which they gave me, they called about 6 days after I put in the move to AGL, so, still within the 10 day cooling off period….might show on your phone as a spam call….lucky I answered it anyway. They have a team called "dedicated energy specialist" members….ask for them as nobody else seems to give a damn otherwise, and I was told by the guy who rang me to do that next time. I will try them next year if I am still on this plan. It will save me having to make a move to someone else if I can just get a better deal to stay in the first place….whether or not talking to them gets the best deal, or trying to make a move away and they offer it to stop the transfer going through gets the best offers etc to stay, IDK. I had already done the onebigswitch credit deals 3 times in this financial year, so that netted a total of $500 credits on my bills as well.

              • @souths123: Thanks man. Good to hear that they could offer you a great deal to stay! I might do the same and bargain with them if they call me.

Btw, how much did they offer you for FIT?

                • @hohoisme: nothing, as I don't have solar and also no gas connection here either. This was 28% discount on the single rate electricity tariff. I am sure you can squeeze them for more for the FIT if you try. Check out what they are offering atm for new customers on their best deals and then ask for more than that?

  • Signed up today, however there is no field for me to provide my velocity membership. Do I add my velocity membership once my AGL account is activated? Or am I missing something here?

    • The very first detail it asks for during the sign up process is your velocity #, even before they asked for your name

Click OP’s link, enter address, click sign up and then enter VFF number

  • Switched existing AGL gas plan on 17 April and points credited on 20 April. Rates were ever so slightly cheaper too.

    • Same here in Victoria. Got my 3000 bonus velocity points, and need to find another gas retailer with a welcome credit and good rates since my welcome credit has been used up in my recent bill.
Hopefully I find something soon, not having much luck. AGL GAS rates are the cheapest so far.

  • Does AGL bill monthly or quarterly? What if the first month bill is less than $200?

    • pretty sure you get to choose which you want, but if you get monthly then they do an estimate only

  • currently an existing AGL customer.. if I move to another supplier then come back to AGL before 30 June, will I be eligible for this promo?

    • +1

To be safe I’d put the account under your partners name when you come back.
