If that price is a good deal now, prices must have really hiked!

It was only a few months ago you could get them for around $950.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/BES920BSS%20type%3A…

    • Same, I remember it under a grand

      • -2

Before covid they were as low as ~$630. I think thats more like their worth.

"End game" and "Breville" in the same sentence also made me chuckle.

  • Same price at JB & Amazon for those with gift cards, etc… seems stocks are around again, and price is slowly dropping. TGG Commercial has had a slightly lower price for many weeks now.

  • How can it be a 'deal'?
A 'normal' deal for this machine is 900-ish and 899 can be a good deal.

  • Is this a deal? I'll get excited when it's sub $1000

  • +7

Not even close to a good price.

  • +3

OP trying to get their post count up. Common sense here, you run a search and it will tell you what the previous deals are. Then resist urge to post.

    • +2

But credit to the OP for a very well formatted post. I feel a bit bad being negative about it. The price is the main point though, I agree that research was necessary prior to posting.

      • Agree

  • +1

Crazy prices.Save up a bit more and get a good used ECM.

  • +1

Awful price compared to the going rate posted on ozbargain every other week/month.

  • +2

This is what you buy when you can't afford "end-game"

    • If it's around the $900 mark then absolutely but for this price, there are a lot better and more reliable machines out there

      • What at this price is a better machine?

        • Nothing at all is better or more feature rich sub 5k.

I've had the bes920, and it's an appliance. That's all. A good appliance, but not a piece of art or something that looks like it will stand the test of time. I'd rather a Rancilio if time is abundant or a Gaggia for short heat cycling in the morning.

  • Not worth it…

  • +2

This is not a good deal. They often go under $1000

  • +2

Agreed, this is not a good price at all for this machine.

  • +2

    Terrible price

  • +2

This is the second machine I bought.

First one broke down after 4-5 years, second one broke down just before 2 years. It is currently in for service repairs under warranty.

The shop was full of these machines in for repairs, stacked on top of each other.

I will speak to the repairer about his thoughts on the reliability of the machines & I will decide whether to purchase another one again.

    • There is zero reliability ..this is a consumer grade machine that is off a production line that offers professional grade features from machines that are made by hand, at a fraction of the price.. obviously costs have been cut and there will be issues but most if not all are easily fixed .. till they are not .. well you get what you pay for..the currently advertised price is not a bargain but sub 1000 it is . There are way better way more expensive more reliable options available.. but this thing packs a LOT for this price which is why it has such a big following globally. Having said that sub 900 would be an ideal price ..I bought my first one for 499 but that was way back and I have fixed it a bunch of times and it is still going well but I still tend to use my Bambino plus for me and the mrs nowadays for a quick cuppa

      • +1

That's good insight, but I thought these issues were addressed in their newer models but I'm not sure if they're still susceptible to other issues.

        • -4

There are no newer models.. these things break and are fixable ..like I said a consumer grade machine mate…if you do not need or use all the bells and whistles and do not need a double boiler try a Rancilio Silvia ..that will last way longer ..practically forever ..or if you like the smarts of this machine and accept the build quality but want simplicity and do not use all the features try the Bambino/plus ..but if you need the reliabilty along with the features that this machine provides then you need to have a bigger budget.. there are heaps of those perfect home machines but then you pay for it .. Rocket, La Marzocco to name a few but heaps of hand made Italian machines on the market

          • +3

@shaidas: You can't compare a bdb with a rancilio silvia. They are in different leagues. Even outside of the dual boiler functionality the bdb has a PID whereas the rancilio has an extremely outdated thermostat system that is nowhere near as consistent. They are the same price but the bdb is in a class of its own

          • +4

@shaidas: There most certainly have been newer models: the original BDB was the BES900, which was upgraded to the BES920 about 4 years later. And within these model numbers there have been multiple under-the-hood subversions.

The latest BDB, as of mid-last year, upgraded almost all of the internal fittings and pretty much removed the need for any o-ring maintenance.

They're great machines, with far better temp stability than a Silvia, and 1/4 to 1/8 of the price of a Rocket or LM.

            • @bargainom: *mid 2022

              • @jaypeee: yup, as per the thread on coffeesnobs, hopefully that means that most stock in stores now is already the newer build spec…

If you could spend a bit more, Oracle is a much better machine as i have both

      • +2

        This is actually incorrect

  • +3

    Great machine
    Terrible price
    Only buy under $1k

  • +2

The highest price I even seen of 920

  • +2

    It's a very bad price?

    Not a bargain.

  • You’re better off with a refurb model from breville for less than 3/4 of the price. The below deal is still running using code APR17.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/835539

Judging by the frequency of previous deals around 900-1000 this should be available for that price in the next 1-2 months.

  • +2

Everyone here negging the deal don’t realise that Breville have officially raised their MRP this year to match their global prices, so $2,199. We won’t see sub-$1,000 anymore for this machine (maybe only refurbs).

    • Maximum Retail Pricing?

    • Where have they said they raised msrp? AFAIK the msrp for these have always been 2199 on the breville website

  • +2

As a person who loves and appreciates coffee very much the neggers here are unjustified.
This machine is well worth the price listed in op.
It will probably never go back to sub 1k.
If the neggers can find a cheaper price only then will it be an appropriate neg.
If you want to get refurb you can get cheaper at $912 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364760074239

    • I hate neggers

  • I think sometimes deals get posted when the current lowest price is found by an individual but overall doesnt make it stellar deal.

I'd wait a bit longer for possible mid year sales.

  • +3

Very sad morning for me, after 7 years my Breville Express has just died. Averaged 3 coffees a day since inception and never made a bad one. Came to OB to search for a deal and although this isn’t the best price, it’ll have to do in my time of need. Looking forward to an upgrade but also devastated to say goodbye to my reliable Express. Thanks OP for the post!

    • I found a bunch on Greys for ~200 each, try there

      • This model? Refurb?

  • +1

Good Guys commercial price has been $1,227 for months. Membership required, (see other posts for membership details). I'm waiting for sub $1,000.

  • Lesson 101: Definition of a deal.

  • +1

    Awful price

  • +1

my trusty BES900 has started tripping the breaker, that's 12-13yrs of service with 5 major repairs (2x by service centers and 3x by myself once it was out of warranty) and countless replacement of o-rings, swapping steam valves, solenoids, disassembling steam valves to turn the seals around to stop the leaking…. can't find anything that comes close to the quality and features for this price point, I'd have to spend 2x or 3x.. and probably need to perform the same regular servicing of some sort.

Now since mid-2022 Breville have apparently done away with all the o-ring connections on top of the boilers, instead using the compression fittings and so theoretically it should be much more leak free in that area!

For me, no interest in the beans subscription, so this price won't do. I'm not considering a more expensive machine, so I will wait for a circa $900 deal in the next 2-3mths.. EOFY just around the corner etc.

    • Changes a million parts then talks about how reliable it is. Go get a lelit and all you'll change is the gasket.

      • Do you recommend any particular model of Lelit?

No, BDB is not reliable but I've found it to be consistent and very easily serviceable.

        • I've had the Anita for 10 years although depends on your requirements.
