  • what do they need to ship?

    • Usually such items come in a small/thin pack. You open pack, take out sheets outlining agreement details, together with instruction on how you go about registering the product, etc.

Normally this sells for $100+, so $10+ shipping is very good.

Either that or you can save $10 and argue Statutory Warranty with Asus.
As you could easily argue that a laptop shouldn't last 1 year but the expected life would be at least 2 years or more.

Statutory Warranty in most cases could easily replace extended warranty and it comes completely FREE.

This is a small price to pay, so you don't have to 'argue'.

I don't know of many people who have the time/patience for it, although any true Ozbargainer probably does. :)

If they dig their heels in, how do you settle it?

If tribunal is required, isn't there:
          - up to a 5 hour time out for getting to, waiting for and attending your case
          - hours of prep work before hand
          - weeks extra of delays waiting for a case
          - more than $100 as the cost of having your case heard (non recoverable fee)

(Note: I haven't gone to tribunal over a computer in over a decade and hopefully things have changed)

        • Unfortunately, even with the ASUS warranty you might still have to argue.

With the benefit of hindsight I would've gone through Consumer Affairs sooner - rather than sending it back to ASUS and waiting for it to come back each time.

  • do you need to purchase a laptop from ht?

    • No, works for any Asus notebook which is shipped with 1 Year warranty. Check the sticker underneath the laptop, to find out.

      • does it work with US purchased devices or ones already out of warranty?

        • No, must be local stock, still within warranty period.

  • Statutory warranty should cover about an additional year with a 'premium' brand like Asus for electrical/manufacturing faults. Your hard disk drive or other moveable parts probably won't be covered under statutory as they have high failure rates in general. The problem is, companies selling products in Australia have to account (increase prices) for the strict statutory laws here, while the vast majority of the public remain unaware about their consumer rights. This means $$$ whenever your Apple Genius asks you "Are you covered under our warranty?" and you say no. I prefer to say "Under statutory, probably"; which is when they stop acting like they're doing you a favour.

    • Lol they shouldn't need to account for the strict statutory laws here when almost every electronics product in Australia is almost double the price than overseas retailers.

  • My notebook N53J came with 2 years warranty which is expiring in Jan. Do you think i can take this warranty ?

Edit : No, got my answer.

  • Asus computers being as they are, you are unlikely to need this but on the offchance you do, you will probably be thankful for not having to argue for your statutory rights, because they will do their best to wipe their hands of it once your warranty is up. Having said that, however, the postage cost if quite steep.

  • This is what I need! :) Thanks!!

  • $10 is a bargain for an additional year of notebook warranty.

not as much a bargain as free extended warranty when paying with a free credit card such as bankwest zero mastercard gold/platinum :)
