Battery life of 8 minutes in turbo (the mode you’ll use). Otherwise a ripper vac. Good upgrade from 6/7/8

    • +2

Higher capacity aftermarket batteries off Amazon work well.

      • +1

I thought the batteries in these weren't replaceable?

        • Fairly sure the 8 and 10 are replaceable with a screwdriver. Every model after uses click in batteries

        • You sure can, swapped out the V10 model.

You don't need to run turbo all the time, its vacuum fine in normal settings. Power head is capable of picking up.

      • Even for a house of carpet?

        • +1

Yep carpet, its not all about suctioned power like 90s vacuum commercials.

Some carpets are harder to vacuum with higher suction, not doing much just get stuck.

    • +1

When I first got the V10, I accidentally put it on Turbo and battery drained out in few minutes, I thought I got a faulty product, then I realised I didn’t have to put it on Turbo, and it has been working fine since then.

    • +1

I got 6 and 8 and prefer those due to light weight. Tried v10 not comfortable a bit more heavy than the old ones

    • I have a V8 and never needed turbo mode (primarily carpets and hard floors)

  • Cracker vacuum

  • +2

I accidentally kicked the head of the Dyson in the dark (bent 90 degrees), and the internal tube broke. It turns out it's quite fragile.

    • Yes Dyson's are somewhat fragile and need to be used properly

      • +6

        I think you mean

Yes Dyson's are somewhat fragile and need to be used as if they are a much cheaper vacuum due to their poor build quality.

        • +3

To be fair, I dont think they are designed to be kicked but you are right! Perspective matters

      • In fairness, it was a V6 so it did last 6-7 years.
The new design has a ball, so it maybe sturdier.
It did have battery issues after 2 years which I had to replace.

        • In my experience, the batteries need to be replaced after 1 1/2 to 2 years max.

I've had the V7 for less than 4 years and in that time the thing has crapped out on me 5 times with three of those occasions being the craptacular battery which break down faster than a beat up Holden. Meanwhile my corded Miele has been going strong for 10 years now with no issues. Will never buy a Dyson again - overpriced fragile junk IMO

    • +1

You're criticising something with a battery, for ye battery dying, to something corded without a battery. I mean…that's a fair criticism I suppose. But having the to plug in/manage the cord on the meile is also a pain compared to the dyson.

      • +3

If the battery is the only "advantage" that the Dyson has (ignoring the massive difference in suction rating here) and if the battery is also the part that keeps breaking down, then one has to wonder what's good about buying a dyson at all.

      • +2

Read it again. He's not criticising for having a battery, he said:

"I've had the V7 for less than 4 years and in that time the thing has crapped out on me 5 times with three of those occasions being the craptacular battery"

3 of the 5 times it's crapped out have been because of the battery :)

      • +1

For the record, the battery was faulty as it wouldn't hold a charge meaning it couldn't be used at all. Had to pull the ACL card for Dyson to replace the battery every time and yet like clockwork the battery fails again with the same issues. The build quality is also cheap plastic crap and the brush design is poor getting clogged up in no time. For the amount you spend on a Dyson, you expect better. Clearly Dyson spend more on marketing then quality control. Won't be buying a Dyson again that's for sure

    • +1

Have you been using the genuine Dyson batteries or the generic?
Stick with genuine or use the branded batteries from other cordless tools like Dewalt, Ryobi etc. The adapters work well.

    • Funny you say that exactly the same scenario at my parents.

    • +1

      Similar experience.
Had 1 cordless and initially it was good. Run time not ideal so we bought another one for upstairs soon after.
The batteries are not great. They literally die soon after warranty. Had them changed a few times within a few years. The batteries are not cheap either.
We also used a corded one before the cordless. It broke under warranty so we had it replaced. Then it broke down soon after warranty too (had bought the 2 cordless by that time).

Suction is okay without turbo. The roller (carpet cleaning one) broke within a few years too, the rotary part will only turn on at certain angles briefly. The charging port also will only charge at certain angles.

Any better alternatives for Chinese brands?

Bought Dyson V10 for my parents and Dreame V9 and V12 for myself. Got everything during special, Dyson V10 is similar to Dreame V12, Dreame V9 will do the jobs as well. I guess Dreame V10 should be better than Dreame V9, which could be have for under $200 during special. I use medium most of the time, as Turbo won't last 10mins for all of them. Tools > suction, especially for carpet. But at this price, i will probably get a Dyson V10. Or wait for Dreame V10 when it's under $200

      • +1

+1 dreame v9 has held up decently with similar battery life/suction power. Probably 3 years old now

  • +1

Why do people buy Dyson shit… its so overpriced for the product. The batteries are expensive too which do need to be replaced unless you're happy with 3 minute runtime.

    • Yep exactly, people are fooled by the marketing, thinking the name and the price should mean good quality but unfortunately, they don't live up to the hype

      • +4

What's the best cordless vacuum alternative to Dyson's?

        • +2

Interested to hear responses this, lots of bashing, yet no better recommendations !

          • @atliens: My dad got some generid brand from jb hifi for like 200 bucks i think. Works fine, tough as a rock, has great battery life.
Tldr generic no name ones work great

    • Because they are infact a good product. Never replaced a battery for mine and I've had it for 5 years. 15-20 mins of runtime.
IMO cheap vacs arent something to scrimp on because they don't suck as well.

Dyson is very popular in Australia, US, China and UK but doesn’t sell well in other regions for example Europe. Significant investment (marketing) in Asia-Pacific region is paying off long-term and they do look great but I can’t help to think Australians are naive and just jump at a specials because they think they’re getting a deal on something that is a superior product.

At least Apple provide a decent battery!

  • Dyson best cordless vacuum you can buy have a V6 for 10 years still going strong replaced battery once use it 2-4 times a day for my 32 square home, Also have a big ball corded dyson 12 years going strong dont use it much though. have bought cordless LG and bosch both had problems within first 12 months, People that cant affoed dyson bag it out, Maybe the cordless Ryobi is next best thing but nothing compares to dyson!

    Still using a DC35 Animal

Need the v10 absolute. That was $550 recently and it comes with the hard floor roller head which is a must. This comes with nothing :/

  • I have this and I am not pleased with it, the build quality is quite weak and the older models were really good build so I could notice the difference as soon as I first used it. I would not recommend.

    • Without comparing with the older model, does it do a good job cleaning though?

      • +1

It is alright. It is definitely not terrible for sure.

The bad from my 3 years experience of using: The suction is considerably lesser than the older wall socketed/non-battery models. It sometimes struggles to pickup dirt over a couple grams in weight. So I have to manually pick them up, the air pushes the dirt away sometimes while vacuuming instead of taking it in. The hair gets entangled in the rotating brush and I recently got airway blocked message because it picked up animal fur and somehow it got stuck in the tube.

Dyson used to be amazing. It is not even great anymore, they are at best average. They have replaced almost every critical part with cheaper and weaker materials.

  • +1

Have a v10 absolute since release, battery has obviously degraded but it was impressive at the start.

I have an issue with it's suction now. Switched out the filter for a generic one off Amazon cause the filter light kept coming on even shortly after washing the filter. The suction felt like new again for a few vacuums. Now it's gone back to just feeling like it's gliding over my carpet. I'm guessing there's a lot of dust/pet hair blockage somewhere, not sure if there's a way to pull it apart safely for a clean? Has anyone done it?

    • I think there are some videos of people on Youtube tearing down these vacuums, but you'll need a Torx screwdriver.. and very long ones at that.

      • Doesn't sound like something i want to do haha

I recall seeing a video of lady dismantling hers, I think the bin had a button to complete detach itself from the vacuum so she could wash the canister and clean the vacuum further. It definitely wasn't the v10 but not sure if it was an older or newer model.

  • Is there anyone here who's used both a V10 and V15? How different are they in your experience?

  • On the ebay page for this item my browsers Fakespot Guard says "There are few reviews mentioning “Scam”, “Fake tracking number”, or questioning product authenticity."
    Should this be a concern?

  • +1

Dyson is overpriced, my $60 work hero works as well and has more capacity too,
