  • Great deal, but shipping to NSW/VIC is coming in at $15.95

    • Hi tritorius, has been fixed now. Thanks for pointing it for us :)

I guess the $10 discount is good for people who don't need the 250GB hard drive, although I think the hard drive is worth more than $10.

    "itspot"

    • yes it is

    doesnt have harddisk?

where this server came from suddenly every shops sell them today. still in production by HP?

    • There must be a container ship full of these stuck in Port Botany, so they must be selling them all out before it sinks ;)

    • no these are discontinued. HP kicked themselves when they realised how fast these flew off the shelves with the cashback they offered

I will possibly end up with 6 of these by the end of the day if everyone keeps going…

I just went 'Holy crap, 3rd N40L deal of the day'

      • that is what i was thinking…. anyone tried to see if HT will price beat? ;)

  • Would one of these be good as an external storage unit and media server, or is it overkill?

    • That's the main reason these are popular, low cost, low power. Does as good of a job as more expensive units.

    • Both! Shove a hdmi graphics card in and it's superb, or a cheap USB sound card and use VGA to your telly

      • I got one, shoved a Xonar DGX and using the VGA. Works perfectly as a low power server + HTPC.
        Around 27W idle.

  • As for storage, it'll take 3x4tb plus 1x2 with no mods….you can get 5x 4tb in with a little playong

    • You can do 6x4TB if you REALLY wanted to with the N40L, by using the ESATA to SATA & the ODD SATA Port.

      • does the esata on this support port multipliers? Ive got a 4 bay enclosure with an esata.

        • I remember reading in Overclockers.com.au that it doesn't. But also in that very long thread (100s of pages) I think someone got a card for the pci-e slot that let you hook up an enclosure.

Cheaper than Shipping Express by $5 but this has no hard disk.

If you can pickup from HT you can save $5 for a no hard disk version.

And for the uninitiated, I would suggest researching this company on Whirlpool and other previous HP Microserver bargain threads. Just saying.

      Very good advice indeed!

    • HT shipping to Tas was $47 so not for all.

      • Pretty sure I said pickup.

        • Sorry, missed that :-)

But … this isn't a real server, you said so yourselves.

I guess it's whatever it needs to be when you're trying to flog stuff eh? :)
