When did OzB become a free advertising service for movies and documentaries being added to streaming services? There's no bargain here.

    • +4

Since the day a whole bunch of knobs upvoted it

      • Are these the same knobs that go into deals and say "OMGWTF who would pay that for this you idiots kmart has them for 10c"?

    • +3

I hear you but I think it’s fine so long as they’re tagged correctly and you have the option to opt-out of those.

For many people, myself included, I like being informed when a major movie etc is added to a streaming service that I have. It’s a way I can get more value from something I’m already paying for (or is free in this case). In my life I have no other mechanism of being informed of this, so OzB fills a need.

  • How can we keep up with the exciting news that's coming soon? I've seen the feature and my heart breaks for Danny. I hope things are going good for my fellow Adelaidian.

"Examines the people who put everything on the line to keep the golden era of arcade games and pinball alive in Australia."

      Could be fun.

    • +3

Yep - OP including a basic outline of what it’s about would have been nice.

  • +2

This just a show that's been added to free-to-air tv. Even if the show were any good, OzB would become unusable if everyone posted these.

  • I’m still standing too. On a flat earth.

Cannot believe OP did not add anything on what the doco is about in the description.

    It's retro video games industry.

I recommend checking out the doco King of Kong. It is a wild ride.

Couldn't be bothered putting together a list of all things wrong with the movie so asked Bing what the biggest issue with that one are:

The documentary “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” has faced criticism for various inaccuracies and complaints, such as:

Exclusion of a third contender: The film was criticized for omitting the presence of a third contender for the Donkey Kong high score title, which could have provided a more comprehensive view of the competition.

Portrayal of characters: Filmmaker Jason Scott criticized the documentary for portraying entire groups of good-hearted people as “shadowy, conniving scumbags with razor-thin morality,” which he felt misrepresented the arcade gaming community.

Omitted facts: Some core themes of the documentary were said to be conjured up by omitting inconvenient facts. For example, the film suggests that Billy Mitchell denied Steve Wiebe the satisfaction of playing one-on-one on Donkey Kong, despite them having played against each other at a previous championship.

Questionable editing: Critics have pointed out that the documentary might have been edited in a way that turned reality into a “faked up drama,” which could mislead viewers about the true nature of events.

These points highlight some of the controversies surrounding the film’s accuracy and its representation of the events and people involved. It’s important to note that documentaries often face the challenge of balancing storytelling with factual representation, and “The King of Kong” is no exception.
