These are only 10mg. To compare, a high dosage antihistamine is 180mg.

My calculator skills says that this is equivalent to ~20x180mg tablets. I'd stick to the Zyrtec/Generics.

uhhh what, 180mg of Cetirizine HCL is 18 zyrtec tablets. pree sure that's overdose mate

      • +2

+1. Zyrtec is only 10 mg Cetirizine. I have a packet in front of me.

However, you can get 400 tablets for $26.60 USD from eBay.

        Oh i see… Nvm, I'm an idiot :)

        • +1

simple mistake :) didn't downvote you btw

        • you were referring to Fexofenadine 180mg (a.k.a Telfast) which is what i prefer to take. both are the popular choices for antihistamines.

Same brand on ebay cheaper and comes shrink wrapped :) this works exactly the same as zyrtec

  • OMG!! 365 tablets for 365 days per year ?? If you need to take 1 tablet each day , you should not self-medicate and seek your Doctor's advice immediately , and if you do not take 1 daily , most likely these tablets would expire = wastage and increase cost per tablet !!

    • Someone needs some valium!!! OMG!!!

Lots of people have chronic allergy conditions that make this scenario entirely feasible.

My Doctor told me to change to different antihistamines from time to time , as the effectiveness of one type can wear off over time , so what would I need 365 tablets for if what my Doctor said is correct ??

        • +3

i find this true, i tend to swap between the claratyne and telfast generics

        • @dk9664: This is true for youother people however, may have intolerances to the different types of medication that precludes them from this practice. I have a friend in this very situation…

Your advice to seek the wisdom of a doctor is sage indeed though! :)

          [edit] clarified addressee

        • Did I say that it was true for everyone? No.

        • Was I replying to you? No.

        • Certainly appears that you were

        • I'm sorry, did you give the advice about consulting the doctor? No.

This is as deep as the comment threads go, I mistakenly thought that you'd be smart enough to know to whom I was replying by the doctor thing…my bad! Edited & hopefully it's crystal clear for you now…

It is common to have to rotate through different antihistamines if you take them all year round (people with perennial hayfever/sinusitis). I am not sure what the biological explanation for this is (change in breakdown efficiency by up-regulated liver enzymes/changes in histamine production or receptor cycling), but it eventually becomes a problem for most people with hayfever.

By the way, Zyrtec (Cetirizine HCL) is usually the most effective as it appears to have added anti-inflammatory effects beyond just the antihistamine action (wheal and flare) of other antihistamines: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15237765

  • Agreed with some of the above posts, If i dont switch tablets from time to time, my body seems to get immuned to it and it isnt effective :S

I picked up some generic zyrtec the other day, and they simply did not work for me. I dont know why, same active ingredients - but wasted $15 (for 30 pack). Felt jipped to, for another $5 could've got the real thing @ cincotta. so im sticking with zyrtec all the way. not worth the stingy $5.

This would be good if it works for you. I know someone who takes antihistamine daily.

  • Anyone got an ebay link for generic brand with the ingredients that Telfast uses?

  • Am I the only one here who doesn't feel comfortable buying drugs from an eBay store?

    • I have no problem buying them off ebay, just depends from who

  • +1

My wife has allergies and sensitivity to fragrances and she takes one Zyrtec a day and it works for her, but she refuses to try any other brand because Zyrtec "works", which it does, but given the active ingredients are the same in the generics I'm going to try to convince her to give these a go, the cost of Zyrtec is nuts.

  • does this stuff make you drowsy?

    • I take it occasionally and it doesn't make me drowsy, but drugs have different effects on different people so you wont know for sure until you try it.
