To be fair, you'd only be feeling this once

  • Back to original price :(

  • White is $266.61 though. So grabbed that. Thanks OP :)

  • GOGOGO for the white.

    • And it's goneeeeee.

      • +3

        *goooone
What you wrote would be pronounced as gone-eey, which is weird.

  • +1

Buy stock for future upgrade? OOS btw haha

  • +18

    I would feel wrong having 48GB ram. It's 4 / 8 / 16 / 32 / 64 or bust.

  • will this design take too much space of cpu cooling fan?

    • +1

Depends on what style of cooler you have. Not a problem if you are using a basic stock cooler or a liquid cooler.

If you have tower style cooler such as a Noctua NH then you will have interference issues with taller Ram sticks

  • I'm going to buy a zen 5 cpu (7800x equivalent) when it comes out but want to start buying parts before then. Ram and mobo because most probably will be out of stock on release date. Rumours say sweet spot for ram will be higher clocks this time round so I guess I'll have to wait for ram spec on release day before buying ram.
I was going to buy Corsair Vengeance 2x16 6000 cl30

Ram and mobo because most probably will be out of stock on release date.

With mobos, wait until the new X770 and B750 models are announced

Due to the longevity of the AM5 platform, prices on quality X670 and B650 boards aren't going to move much so you might as well get the latest USB4 and PCIe Gen 5 features

DDR5 is in early days - Samsung haven't even released their equivalent of DDR4 B-die yet

Wait for the reviews of the Zen 5 memory controller before buying because the optimal kit will be around 6400 @ CL32 and assuming AMD don't fark it up, quad DIMM's will actually be stable

      Gen 1 - DDR5 6000 @ CL30, equivalent to DDR4 3000 @ CL15/16
      Gen 2 - DDR5 6400 @ CL32, equivalent to DDR4 3200 @ CL16
      Gen 3 - DDR5 7200 @ CL32/36, equivalent to DDR4 3600 @ CL16/18

      • +1

When do you think the B750s will be out?

Should I buy now or HODL?
New gaming pc, gaming and office work. Okay to go to $1.6k without gpu.

        • +1

When do you think the B750s will be out?

B450 and B550 were both announced around June/July which fits in with desktop Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 being available around September/October

RDNA 4 and Battlemage will also be announced/available by then

So unless TechFast offers a $2K 7800X3D / 4080 Super deal before then, HODL

          • @Look Up: That's almost impossible. So wait 6 months for next gen, or buy now and forever HODL my peace.

Granted the 7800X3D was out in April 2023, so it's approx a year old and doing really well. When the 9k series comes out, they're going to be MSRP or higher priced and it will be a few months before prices drop. Plus, as you continually post, chip prices + NAND storage are just going up, up and up.

Got to love the PC enthusiast community providing valuable info so people don't make purchasing mistakes. The information is appreciated.

I'm going to start selling my amd x570 systems gear about 3 weeks before am5 launch. Fortunately I have a decent laptop I can survive on for when my main system is down.

Yeah I guess you're right, better to wait for next gen mobo. Hopefully there will be stock.

    • +3

You can buy mobo and just bios flash it for Zen 5.

      Here's some motherboard recommendations
Gigabyte AM5 ATX B650 AORUS ELITE (All of Gigabytes lower range is complete garbage, Aorus elite can often be found on sale though)
ASRock B650M PG RIPTIDE WIFI (Pretty much perfect midrange board if you can find it. Unfortunately Asrock isnt as popular here in Au)
MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi (Memory controller quality is not the best +6 layer pcb)

I'm not going to link anything but you can find them all around the $250-300 price range from smaller pc retailers

      • What about these @Yve ?

        MSI MPG B650 Edge
        Asus Tuf Gaming B650-Plus Wifi
        Gigabyte B650 Aorus Pro AX
        MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wifi
        MSI MAG B650M Mortar Wifi
        GIGABYTE B650 EAGLE AX
        ASRock B650 LiveMixer

        ?

        • +1

Note most of what you suggested would be more expensive but also okay choices.
MSI MPG B650 Edge - Good Mid-High end VRMs,

Asus Tuf Gaming B650 plus Wifi- For most of B650, Asus doesn't offer a competitive price because they don't want to hurt their X670 board lineup. As a result, you can forget them as a 'value' pick. It's fine if you go high end, but it tends to be overkill unless running X9XX CPUs.

B650 Aorus Pro AX - High end VRMs, better than the Elite Ax. But, it's basically the same board in regards to connectivity and everything else.

MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wifi - High end VRMs, decent connectivity 10 usb ports, 3 m.2 gen 4 (MSI doesn't offer as much as Gigabyte/Asrock), 6 layer pcb. Do keep in mind most of their 6 layer pcb motherboards have memory controller training issues. Make sure if you buy ram, it's on their tested spec sheet)

MSI MAG B650M Mortar Wifi - High end VRMs, you're getting 8 usb ports, 2 m.2 gen 4
Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX - Mid-Low end VRMs, the price-value tradeoff is worse than the Elite AX I recommended. Because you're getting less connectivity (3 less usb ports), 1 random M.2 that's speed constrained to a gen 4x2 lane and a 6 layer pcb instead of 8.

          Livemixer -Good Mid-High end VRMs,
          Great USB support and connectivity, 3x M.2 slots, 2 Gen 4, 1 Gen 5
The 'minor' issue is there are less Sata ports and the limitation of 1 additional pcie card (like wifi) if utilising the M.2 lanes. I'd say an additional m.2 port is favoured over sata though.

          Gigabyte AM5 ATX B650 AORUS ELITE - Mid-High end VRMs, same connectivity 12 USB , 3 M.2 1xGen5, 2xGen4 as their Pro AX.
          ASRock B650M PG RIPTIDE WIFI - Mid-Low end VRMs, 8 usb, 2 M.2 1 Gen5, 2xGen4
MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi (Memory controller quality is not the best +6 layer pcb) - Mid end VRMs, 8 USBs, 2 Gen 4 M.2

So the price ranges for these boards will be 250-400. All of which would run a X800/X700 AM5 cpu fine.
If I were to rate by… value. You can probably see a bit of a pattern going on between brands. This is a price range where they don't skimp out on much aside from VRM and connectivity

Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite < Asrock B650 Livemixer < Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite V2 < Gigabyte B650 Aorus Pro AX < Asrock B650 PG Riptide Wifi < MSI B650 Gaming Plus Wifi < MSI Tomahawk/Mortar < Asus boards.

          Add note
I've personally found that you do need to test Gigabyte motherboards, because while they're still my value pick they have problems more often than other brands. It doesn't affect it's value, you just need to RMA the board.

          • @Yve: Wow, great informative post mate.
            Thanks for that.
So the issue with MSI is while everyone else does an 8 layer PCB, MSI cuts costs by using a 6 layer, thereby causing memory issues. So have to check RAM before buying.

Looking at your top 3 boards, NewEgg has them at awesome prices in USD. But if I change to Oz shipping, price almost magically doubles, because it's not sold by NE.

            The LiveMixer just looks amazing.

Why does the Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite trump the next version of it, the V2? (rank 4 in mobos on NE).

Where is a good place to shop around for mobos for a true bargain?

          • @Yve: I'm surprised that you placed the top end Tomahawk at the bottom, after the Livemixer and the GB AE!

            • +1

@lordra: The Tomahawk and Mortar Max used to be incredibly solid picks back in the B450-B550 AM4 era. However, as of right now being priced at $345 and $330 respectively, they're no longer at a price point where their offering would be considered outstanding but rather middle of the pack.

Gigabyte reduced the build quality on the Aorus B650 Elite V2 compared to the V1, opting for a 6 layer pcb instead of 8, and lowering the VCore VRM powerstages to 60A Onsemi (Chinese) from 70A Infineon (German) capacitors. If you get the V1.2 it's also has the same wireless card, so the V2 is just inferior at the same price. I'm not sure why the V2 exists either, possibly to cut costs and feed off the popularity of the V1.

Honestly all of these boards will work for something that'll likely be at the level of a X800 CPU so you don't need to go more expensive and there's certainly a lot of Ozbargainers who'd go cheaper.

In regards to shopping, your best luck would be to keep an eye out on Amazon prices.

              • @Yve: Good to know. How do you learn all this stuff! 😄
                Just amazingly informative.
The tomahawk is us$200 on NewEgg, and us$100 for a refurb, so was really tempted to go with it.
But the live mixer is us$150 so that's a great price. The GB AE is us$210, so a lot more expensive, so the live mixer is looking really good to me at this stage. I may have someone visiting from the USA so they can bring it with them.

Time is short, so i need to finalise a board asap and your data has been very helpful.

Am very tempted to get the refurb tomahawk ($160) or the new live mixer ($235), plus a bit in taxes. Which one do you think will be the better gamble?

                • @lordra: A Livemixer for $235? That's a steal
Newegg has a very shaky history regarding their refurb products (They have a history of reselling RMA'd components as refurbished or open-box. Just search up Newegg RMA on YT if you wish to know more), it's still a steal for $160 if you're willing to learn BGA Rework to repair it yourself (Or know someone).

                  • @Yve: A google search for BGA Rework has me thinking of Louis Rossman and has sent me running for the hills.
Newegg RMA on YT is equally scary, so I think you've helped me make the decision and stick with the new board for $253 after tax. Still good value, me thinks. Now to find me a mule, haha!

                    • @lordra: Also, thanks to your google doc, I saw that the livemixer doesn't come with onboard Wifi, so I'll have to shell out another $25 for a wifi pice card from Aliexpress to use it. Ethernet is not an option for me.

                      • @lordra: @Yve

                        • +1

@lordra: Wifi card is worth it since most people won't be utilizing all the pcie lanes. Just make sure you're putting it in the second lane and not the third lane because the third lane shares PCIE lanes with the gen5 m.2. Plenty of 6E wifi cards on aliexpress.
As to why the third lane exists, it's just an extra option to run a dedicated sound card if you don't wish to use the M.2.
Most musicians will likely have better USB amps they can run off their usbs rather than using a sound card though.

                          • @Yve: Since you placed the Live Mixer in 2nd, I bought it for $253 delivered. I have an uncle bringing it over in four weeks. Great excite!

Re, the 3rd lane, if I don't use an M.2 on it, can I just run the wifi card in there?

But since my gpu will be in the 1st lane, the 2nd and 3rd are free, so it does make sense to use the 2nd one before populating the 3rd.

                • +1

@lordra: Buildzoid is a pretty good resource if you want to get into, VRMs, Memory controllers type of stuff
His YT channel isn't sorted out that well, but this is a nice introductory playlist

                  • @Yve: Wow, nice, thanks bud!

  • damn yall have good motherboards to support this ram

  • Hey OP, how did you chance upon this RAM?
Did you set an alert for yourself via the camels?

    • I just casually browsed and happened to see it, then quickly posted it on Oz.

      • Thanks mate. I'm sad I missed out. Trying to figure out how you guts get all these amazing deals!

  • Waiting for mine. ETA today. Will post back if it’s not Dominator Titanium for this cheap.

    • Lucky buy mate!
      I hope it is!
Look up says that corsair has surge pricing so have to check often and if we snooze, we loose.

      I'm always snoozing and losing.

      • Got it delivered.
        The real deal.
Was a bit worried after seeing some Youtube video or people swapping out the package with fake sticks.
7000MHz working on Z690 despite motherboard manual saying max is +6666MHz.

        • Bloody awesome! Noice!
Please excuse me while I go turn green in the corner. 😅

I'm checking ozb every hour now, driving everyone around me mad, lol.
