I was gonna post this, but didn't think it was that great as its on a 7" screen

Limited software and support (since not everything Android is compatible) and an outdated resolution (1024x600). You might as well go for an Ainol Novo Flame/Fire's that does IPS and 1280x800 resolutions with better CPU/GPU (inc. Mali) running Jellybean for same price or less (search on Ozbargain for Ainol). Either that or pay the $70 extra to get the Nexus 7 16GB for a 100% better machine.

    • Yeah, I was about to suggest the same thing. A Chinese brand Android tablet is much better value - better specs, more software available, and cheaper for a 7".

my ainol has caused me no end of problems…

You can get ointment for that…

I had to install a new wifi antenna in my Ainnol Aurora II 'cos half of it was missing :O
      Not to mention other issues….

      • +2

Pretty much the same for most of the other cheap Chinese brand tablets.

        • Poor wifi / wifi dropouts
        • 1GB phone memory + 15GB internal SD setup
        • Poor battery life
        • Rushed firmware
        • Sub-par Android Market support
        • Poor build quality
        • No warranty (try sending it back to the online store, how much is that going to cost - thank in part to Australia Post charging so much for postage).

        They are cheap though….

not all chinese tabs have major issues. it's more like a lucky draw when you purchase one since they have sold so many of them. The thing is there are people quite happy to pay only $100 bucks and give it away as a gift or keep it as a spare so unless Google can release a $100 tablets, Chinese tabs will still become popluar.

  • I'm still using my PlayBook and have been quite happy with it. The build quality is solid and BlackBerry is still releasing updates. Certainly there's nowhere near the number of apps available on it as there are on other platforms but if your core interest is in Web browsing, email and media playback it manages them all nicely. Mobicity has the 64Gb model listed at $209.95 currently if you're looking for some extra storage.

    • I added to this deal but removed again, out of stock. Looks like they had a recent promo for $199 and must have exhausted supply.

    • How do you get email? Do you need BIS/BES for it?
I used to have blackberry phone without BIS/BES. I had to use Shangmail's server to get my emails.

      • Nope, this is no longer the case

The price is still high for owning a piece of history

  • OS 10 releasing in Q1 2013 should put it up to par with most other 7 inch tablets. Itd be a good deal if it was 150.

    • It still has poor specs (1GHz CPU, lowish res screen) and the OS will still have very little app support. Even at $150 it wouldn't be a good deal IMO.

  • Long Boot times, not easy to view Flash video (FLV) files, not an Android device, it takes extra effort to run those Android app's that do run on the PlayBook, unusual UI features & NO plug-in RAM slots. The 64 GB storage doesn't buy you much, except (maybe) for a particular application.

    I'd say it's worth ~$100 with all the limitations…

    'just saying…

    • Yeah boot time is about 2 minutes on OS2.1 but only 30-40 seconds on OS10 which is comparable to Android and iOS.

It has the best mobile Flash implementation. While it's hard to view Flash files outside the browser, there is an app for that.

Yeah running Android apps is a waste of time. It can't run any of the good ones anyway. Just the Java ones like Google Maps and ES File Explorer.

But what do you mean no plug-in RAM slots? No tablet has this.
The 1GB RAM is more than what you need for this tablet though. On earlier firmware it would get used up when running Android Player but now I always have 500MB free.

      • No USB drives.. PC can view PlayBook's drive, but I doubt you can plug a dumb ext hard drive into the PB & expect it to read from / write to it… am I right?

how to access a local (ie, located on the PlayBook) HTML web page?

Is OS 10 avail for PlayBook?

  • Would I be wrong in thinking that someone with a blackberry phone on crazy john's would have 6 months unlimited internet access for this for less than $30?
