Melbourne Horse Drawn Carriages Melbourne

Hey guys, I am off to Melbourne this week and my little one loves horses.

Was thinking of doing the Horse Drawn Carriages in the city and found this on Groupon $129 for a 40-Minute Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride for Up to Six with Distinctive Melbourne Carriages (Up to $270 Value) is it actually a discount or is it better to speak to the folk there and book it?

When I read the title, I imagined a hoof with a pencil.

    • Feels like a decent Family Guy gag, it's actually a horse drawing a personal portrait

Lol. This is what AI came up with when asked to create a picture based on this thread.

          Nice! I actually lol’d

          • @mapax: HAHAHAHAHA … My bad, was trying to get it done on my phone just before work

Speak directly to the provider and see if they will match the Groupon price. Because Groupon take a % cut.

I got a Go Kart deal through Groupon and when we went, the guy said to speak to them in the future if we wanted to come again because he would match Groupon. He said the % cut they take is a lot and what he actually makes is enough to cover running costs.

I did this when booking a whale watching trip on the gold coast. They were happy to match the price

    • Same for any spa and massage deals. Just call them and ask if they are willing to deal direct. Most will oblige. Better to support the business directly.

Haven't seen these guys operating since pre-covid.

They still operate… but apparently they're booked out for the weekend..

      • Considering you're not a Victorian and haven't been to Melbourne recently (heck I was in town last week), I wouldn't trust your source information but rather myself and others who have pointed out they do not operate anymore.

        • +1

Calm down… was just a heads up with what I found out😂I called the number on Groupon, spoke to the operator and he said they do still operate for private bookings.. I would still only book off Groupon so that if they dont, I can get my money back…

    • Yes I agree I haven't seen them for years. They were quite noticeable on Swanston St.

I thought the council or the state government got rid of the horse drawn carriages a few years ago.

Added later: Yes, they did. Google for more information.

I'm pretty sure those along Swanston St got shut down because of them damn animal activists (that have nothing better to do!)

    • I am concerned if these horses are still alive now they do not have an income.

The do gooders shut it down years ago.

      “Do gooders” dislike your comment.

  • Scary - if others have said and its shut down (come to think of it, I've not seen them for a while too), how/why are they still being sold on Groupon?

When they were being operated, I had some family go on them and all they could provide as feedback was it was very stinky (the horse, not Melbourne).

    • +4

Fun fact - horses smell. Especially if they walk through their own shite or get shite stuck in their tails.

      Source - own horses.

      • :p

Going with the 'why pay for a stinky experience' approach for OP

hahahaha my 3 yr old loves horses… willing to take the stink to see her happy

If you click the link to go to website it’s just one of those spam/may be for sale pages.

    • +1

      That saves cents. Cheers

      • Yeah, a bit dodgy… If they had availability I would probably book via groupon

  • +1

One way to get used to proposed new speed limits….

Nothing more authentic than having a top hat wearng carny chauffer you around in a horse-drawn carriage with neon rope lights.

    • +3

Hahahaha… I lived in Melbourne for a while, not really going for the authentic bit mate, just want to see my little one happy.. as most dads do

Business idea - Lime Scooter-drawn carriages

  • Yeah they got banned here like in other cities. Plenty of videos of old mate who ran them going off at people.

Treat yourself to something outside of the city. This tour is like being stuck in traffic but smellier

    • Yeah… We're doing Werribee…Just need to find a few other things to do
