R36S Game Console ~A$40.48 + Fees (New User Only) @ Cutesliving AliExpress

172

Available in white, black, purple, and red, though the latter 3 are like 1/2 cents more.

This is a welcome deal. If you have an Ali account, make a new one, or it will show as a higher price.

Have been using mine for about a month now and it's great. Same old RK chip stuff as we've had for a few years, but great price, and Portmaster adds so much to the unit. Burning through GTA 3, Vice City, Quake 3, Duke Nukem, and so on is a delight. Handles PSP pretty well, if you don't mind using frameskip here and there, the only game I've had be noooooticeably slowed is Spider-Man 3, a full open world swingy thingy, everything else is great, played a decent bit of Burnout, Simpsons, Spider-Man 2, Battlefront 2, Family Guy and more and they've all been very very very playable. N64 and Dreamcast are a bit of a mixed bag, Crazy Taxi and Tony Hawk run fine, Dead or Alive 2 is a bit too slow to enjoy, while on the N64 front a lot of it's pretty sweet, I managed to beat GoldenEye happily but there was a few levels with odd texture glitches, beyond that though it played pretty darn well. Don't buy for DC or N64 if you're not 100% but everything else works great for me. PS1 and earlier will be 100% flawless. Check out https://portmaster.games/ if you want to see another few hundred cool PC games that have been ported over and play on the console, very cool stuff.

Did I meet the 10 word minimum yet?

It otherwise known as game preservation and appreciation… it seems you're all about coming to ozbargain to complain.

        • +14

I would argue that 99.9% of the games you'll play on this can no longer be purchased legitimately.

**may or may not be statistically correct.

          • +7

@eggaz: yeh i agree. If you are pirating games thats no longer for sale through legitimate channels and its for personal use (i.e. you're not profiting from it) then i see that as ok.

There's bugger all games I emulate that I never bought. Hell, the other day I finally got around to Serious Sam (on this device), loved the first half dozen levels or so, and bought it on Steam five minutes later (for like $2.50 but still).

That being said I am 100% for piracy, (profanity) knows this this can't emulate anything current, the most powerful thing it can do is PSP, a device that's successor was released well over a decade ago. No one is losing money on games they don't sell any more. Pirate away!

Please tell me how I can play my favourite games from the C64 and Amiga legally

      • Have you got a flux capacitor?

      • No idea I'm afraid! I've played pretty well every mainline console ever, but never went into PC other than DOS and Win9x.

    • You realise how easy it is to back up your old digital and legally purchase content right?

  • +2

    Shows as $60 for me

    • Was $40ish for me until I went to checkout and it logged me in.

      • $63.67 with tax on checkout.

        • Did you use a new account? Could be stiffing existing users as usual

  • +1

Got two for 28usd (43aud) shipped each

    Thanks

    • How did you manage that?

      • I think they meant that they paid $43 for each device, so $86 in total.

        • yes one from cute living store and the othe from Factory direct collected store. I think the cheap price is only on the first purchase per account.

    • Hell yeah!

    • Let me know if you only need one, I've been looking for one!

  • WOAH i just scored a Retroid Pocket 3 for $78 USD ($120 aud) shipped from cuteliving store….

    • Nice, I just checked at it's US$120 now.

      • ya i think it was last one lol thought it was scam but since sold by Cuteliving store i took the bite… should be legit..

  • OP, please specify if the price in the title is USD or AUD.

    • Sorry, didn't consider it, figured all would assume AUD, but rookie error to forget. I'll throw it up now.

Burning through GTA 3, Vice City, Quake 3, Duke Nukem, and so on is a delight.

    Name checks out

  • I'd buy it at that price. Unfortunately this deal is literally unobtainable unless you happen to win some random lottery apparently

  • +1

How do you get 43 AUD?

  • +5

Don't believe this is actually available.

Does this one play N64 games? If not what's a good cheap one that does?

    • Have a read of the OPs description. They have advised not great for N64. Looking at PS1 and below.

    • It's hit and miss. A lot work, but I also haven't personally tested a shitload since it's not just easier to throw on the PS1 versions, I already have them loaded and ready to go from countless other emulator machines.

  • Great screen, stiff face buttons, terrible shoulder buttons.

    Thumbstick ergonomics are below par.

    • I'll say the shoulder/trigger buttons are some of the clickiest things I've ever heard, but still feel pretty good tbh. I was prepped by YouTubers saying this that and the other about the shoulder and face buttons but honestly I've had zero problems, enjoy the feel of the unit overall a good deal. I thought the Reddit peeps sooking about the power light in the middle were over the top until the kiddo wanted to play forts in bed with me, and I had it on me, so it went under the doona with us and damn, the light lit the whole bloody thing up.

      • I forgot about the power light! Another reason I got rid of mine.

I've only tried 2 so far. This and the Miyoo Mini Plus. The Miyoo wins.

        • Miyoo is the one to beat for older stuff, but I have dozens of emulators that can do that. If you can't play Vice City and at least PSP, I don't look at you anymore, too many "PS1 and earlier" devices kicking around in the drawers already.

    Showing as $60 for me.

This contains pirated roms. If you don't like piracy then this isn't for you.

First thing you should do when you get these things is to get a different SD card from a more reputable brand.

  • Shows as $59.95 for me :(

purple and black are transparent while red and white are opaque?

Another thing - going through some other sellers listings, says screen is 3.5inch - 4inch. Are all colors the same screen size or different?

    thank you in advance.

    • +1

They should all be 3.5 AFAIK, though there are newer revisions with different panels, I do believe they are the same size.

  • aw man missed out :(
wanted to get it for the niece

Keep your eye on Ali, they drop to low/mid 40s quite often. There's a lot of cool / other options out there too, but for 40 odd bucks, this is definitely my favourite.

Depending on what she plays, you can get ones like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006656882365.html?spm=a2… for around 5 bucks or so (I got one a month or two back for just over $3.50) and they do 8/16 bit pretty well, 8bit flawless (naturally) and a lot of 16bit pretty darn well, though some SNES and GBA will poop out. The SF2000 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006750426807.html?spm=a2… also kicks serious ass if you can get it for ~10, same library of games (oh, you can add your own to both), I got a second one for the kiddo for Xmas, paid around 15 bucks for it and the wireless controller (so we could plug into the tele and do 2 player). The SF2000 has custom firmware you can get though that greatly increases performance, plus the joystick is cool, I'd go that if you can, but if the other one goes back down to a fiver, very very cool for the price. Both have a memory card (32gb usually) included and 6000 odd games, that's why I got the SF2000 for the kiddo, everything is just there, you can search Lion King, Star Wars, Little Mermaid, Super Mario, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk and so on, and know you've pretty much got every single game for 6 or 7 consoles.

      • ay perfect the sf2000 will do ! , just wanted one to play some game boy advance game with him.
gonna try and intro my childhood games like zelda and pokemon to him :D

    • That's the R35Plus model.. The R36S is still $60 for the white or purple one.
