thanks OP, was literally looking these up last night and was holding off until a sale then saw your post!

  • Thanks OP, these look like they'll work nicely with Home Assistant.

    Good for the toilet?

If these can sanitise surfaces, they must be powerful enough damage your skin and eyes. There's a reason people who use curing lights in this wavelength wear protective glasses.

A little bit of research suggests that the near-UV wavelengths emitted by this lamp can have an "inactivating" effect on bacteria… when placed centimetres from the surface being treated, and it takes hours as opposed to seconds for UV. So as usual a small nugget of truth has been turned into a bogus claim by the marketing department.

Let's not even get started on the negative physical and mental health impacts of attempting to disinfect everything you interact with.

  • As said above, the science on near near-UV is pretty tentative but it's cool all the same and a good price point. I wish they would make something in the 1600lm range. 1200lm is good for a lamp but not great to light a whole room.
