  • This sounds fun. If anyone here goes to this, can you report back and let us know how it was. I'm particularly interested to know what they say about the history of (not) 'aboriginal' dot paintings.

    • We are just a part of events for the Lions Club Multicultural Day, and it's in a free entry market that everyone can join in. If you're interested, please come join us and celebrate the enduring legacy of Indigenous Australian art and culture. We look forward to your arrival!

      • I love how these days are called "multicultural"! When a multicultural society that this country has been built on can't be included in a part of this 'day'. Hell, a lot of aboriginals aren't even aboriginal, yet everybody else is excluded in their own country.
Sick of this crap happening all the time. Advertise a "white's only day" and watch the racist abuse come outta the woodwork.
This country was built and populated from 'bastards' LITERALLY! Irish, Scottish, English, Italian, Greek, German, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Croatian, Russian, list goes on. The multicultural society that this country IS, can't go to these events. INSANE!

Why not offer this to Aussies?

Oh wow, somehow I missed this:

      'Exclusively for International Students'

Why not offer this to Aussies? I guess I'll just add this to the ever growing list of instances in which Australian citizens are being actively discriminated against in their own country.

What if an impoverished aboriginal person rocked up seeking to participate? Would they be turned away because they are not an 'international student'?

You & I have seen eye to eye on many things! This one just adds to the list

    • We genuinely appreciate your thoughtful comments and concerns. Allow us to provide some context regarding the nature and intent of our event.

First and foremost, we want to emphasize that our event is entirely open to the public and free of charge. We extend a warm invitation to anyone interested in delving into the rich tapestry of Australian Indigenous culture through art. No one will be turned away, and all are welcome to participate and engage in this enriching experience.

Now, regarding the decision to offer this event exclusively to international students, it's important to highlight that this initiative is part of the Study Melbourne and a charitable organization's joint endeavor, the Art Harmony Program. This program is specifically designed to provide international students, who often find themselves far from home and seeking avenues to connect with Australian culture and community, with a unique opportunity to do so.

For many international students, this represents a rare chance to immerse themselves in the cultural heritage of Australia's Indigenous peoples and forge meaningful connections within the local community. It's a way to bridge the gap between different cultures and create a more inclusive and harmonious environment for all involved.

We want to stress that our decision to focus on international students does not come from a place of exclusion but rather from a desire to address the specific needs and challenges they face while studying abroad. However, we are actively exploring ways to expand similar opportunities to a wider audience in the future, including Australian citizens.

Your concerns are valid, and we thank you for raising them. It's through open dialogue and constructive feedback that we can continue to improve and ensure that our events are as inclusive and beneficial as possible for everyone involved.
