Sony XAV-701BT Double DIN 7" Touch Panel Car System $629 - JB Hi-Fi Online (Free Delivery)

40

I was looking at buying this from JB Hi-Fi. In-store price is $729. The salesguy came down to $707, final offer.
Ryda sells this for $748.85.
Sony RRP is $899.
I'm not sure if the $629 price is a mistake, or a genuine online only offer.
I bought one right away, and awaiting email for pickup from Moore Park store.
NOTE:
This unit has MirrorLink technology, which means on supported Nokia and Android phones, you can output your screen view and sound to the 7" monitor via the microUSB connector.
Great for Google Navigation to be displayed on the large screen!

  • Why can't you get a Nexus 7 or even ipad mini installed on your dash for that kinda price? http://www.gadgetreview.com/2012/11/ipad-mini-car-install.ht…

    • Was about to suggest this. 3.5mm to RCA converter to your amp, perfect.

Only difficulty / expense is mounting it in your dash.

    • if anyone knows a cheap way to mount it in the car, i'm listening.

        super glue

      • I have a mate who has a case on his tablet, put a bit of velcro tape on the back of it and a tiny one on the dash. It holds it there pretty damn well!
        Easy to take off too.

      • Screw it to the dash. Don't forget to use a diamond tipped drill bit so the glass doesn't crack when making the holes in the tablet.

dont forget that in NSW, the phone needs to be mounted in a professional holder. which might include the ipad mini.

dont want to lose money and points because an overzealous cop decides to get you for not having a professional cradle.

      • i use velcro pads for my gps. if you need more support then use more velcro….simple…easy peasy pumpkin squeezy. also makes it easy to remove when your parked

    • I want a system with sound through my amp and car speakers, and also steering wheel controls.

      :-) Been there, done that…
      1) you don't want to leave your iPad (or any shiny electronic device for that matter) in your car, believe me….
      2) Too many tangled cables - power, sound, …
      3) Not as sturdy, on fixed in-dash unit there is no relative movement, in any cradle there is a lot of movement

Saying that - there are other alternatives, but for me - just reason (1) is enough to opt for an in-dash unit over cradle any time. But it is everyone's preference, I use car a lot, but also leaving it parked at various places. Few years ago had a broken window so someone could steal my el cheapo $50 GPS unit in cradle. :-(

      • Had someone break my window for the same reason. Cost $280 to replace the glass! :(

i cant imagine that this could fit in any car

    • +3

Why wouldn't it fit in any car that has a double din space?

    • +2

Riiiight… so Sony has created a high-end car stereo system that will not fit in any car?
      Brilliant!

    • +1

maybe you meant to say "i cant imagine that this could fit in every car"

    • will fit in my car no problem… double din…

got my wife one like this:

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7-One-DIN-Touch-Screen-GPS-Blueto…

(single din) (and the one i got is a much older model)

has GPS, bluetooth, radio, touch screen, digital tv, spot for a reversing camera, all built in,… lasted about 3 years so far…and still going strong… I've even updated the maps and software on it…(some of them do come with analogue tuners still though) gotta admit i havent really used the TV due to lack of antenna. but awesome to have in the car while your waiting for someone… would use it much more if i had a second battery, to scared to have it on with the car off…

you can also have it playing movies to other monitors while the GPS guides the drivers.

awsome units and only 350 bux… dont know why more people don't get them!

    • What, you've never heard of the Deutsches Institut für Normung standard for car dash audio devices?

  • I have a Ebay double din Cheapy and I love all the options it has compared to something like this Sony,
BUT the sound quality of the cheapy is driving me insane, Im not sure what the problem is but it just dont sound right, it could be the stock speakers but even the stock radio sounded way better :/

    • I think a tablet could do the same job just got to fit it in the dash…

    • yeah the internal amp may not be a good one.. could try using better speakers to increase the quality… the cheap Chinese one i got sounds pretty good though… it does have a weaker tuner than the stock radio did though which means its a little statistic'ie…

      • Will a tablet withstand the high temperatures inside a car during summer?

      • I have a few Amps I "could" use/try, But then I would need better speakers, and Im too lazy… :p

        • no, no, the amp in the unit its self, not sure if you hook it up to PRE AMP outputs of your headunits though…(if that would help or not)… if it doesn't, guess that would point to the decoder then…

  • Yes a tablet has all the funtionality that this has, which is why I bought a tablet. BUT it does not give you the freedom of radio (without using the internet) and the sound quality wont be a good since tablets only have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

    • Sound quality will be the same. You're just converting 3.5>RCA as opposed to having RCA>RCA on a regular setup (HU to amp)

  • should note that this is also advertised as $629 in their catalogue but with a free sony iPod dock aswell:

    • The free Sony iPod dock is also on the website link provided with the post.
