  • One of the worst EVs on the market. From software to the way it's built, packaging is just janky.

        • You meant 2 remote control cars with AA batteries from Kmart?

  • +3

I know nothing about the quality and performance of these, but I always liked the external clean futuristic looking aesthetic of Polestar cars. Probably in the minority based on the hate these cars get in comments.

    • They hate the country make this car😂

      • Nah, the car looks are great. The quality, workmanship, features, price to performance, software and battery type make this car bad. Its priced premium and is low mid tier at best. A BYD is better than this and thats not a standard any EV should aspire too. There's worse, like Fiskers and KIA. But it's not a good EV.

  • Checkout how much EVs have depreciated over the last couple years and you will understand exactly why we are seeing these big discounts

    • +1

If you look at Teslas, not much. A 3 year old used Tesla is like $10k less than brand new facelifted model in Australia. Different story in the USA though.

      • Yea I'm going off US data. Give it time, it will end up the same here

        • +1

Not sure what you're on about. Depreciation of Teslas are much better than other cars in that price bracket.

For example, comparing a Model 3 against a Mercedes Benz C Class or BMW 3 series:
          - https://caredge.com/bmw/3-series/depreciation
          - https://caredge.com/mercedes-benz/c-class/depreciation

In fact, its depreciation is more similar to that of a Camry than of other cars in its price range:

Reality is that more expensive cars depreciate more. Teslas were previously overpriced in the second hand market due to lack of new stock. Now that there's plenty of new stock, their second hand prices are just falling to what they ought to be.

          • +1

@p1 ama: These ignore the price discounts and adjust for it. So take that, then deduct the discounts applied. Anyone who bought a Tesla 3 has lost $13k just from pricing reductions. Let alone the deprecation.

Also, none of this covers the fact in Australia a second-hand EV takes 3.4x longer to sell than an ICE car in the same price range. Most consumers are reluctant and that's for a 3-4 year old one. Imagine when they're 6-8 years and no one wants to pay for new batteries.

          • @p1 ama: According to your website a Tesla has the same resell value after 2 years as a brand new.

I don’t know where they get their data or stats but if you believe that you’ll believe anything p1ama.

    • EV depreciation is really only driven by price cuts via Tesla matching the Chinese makers, and incentives like removal of FBT making new models very advantageous.

EV prices are falling because lithium prices are tanking. I called this 18m ago (see my past posts) when no one believed it would happen when EV sales were strong. Battery’s in tbese cars can make up 30% of their overall value.

      https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/lithium

But look at the stabilisation, car makers are taking in cheaper battery prices into account now and lowering their prices in response, unless you forecast even more falling prices now is the time to buy (anyone who follows me posts will also note I eat my own cooking).

      • Do you forecast prices rising again shortly?

  • +3

"To support Australia’s transition to cleaner transport, and the proposed New Vehicle Efficiency Standards, Polestar is offering savings worth…" LOL BS. You cant sell them, that's why the price is dropping.

  • Cool price and awesome car!

  • So how much $$ do they want now??

Polestar (like Volvo) don't offer factory repair manuals to individuals - only to individuals in the US where they are required to by legislation. If you want to work on your own cars out of warranty, you'd have a very hard time doing so without instructions, part catalogues or torque specs & you're limited to mostly what others have posted tutorials for on YouTube.

Learnt that the hard way with my Volvo V60 and it's only got 2 years of warranty left. Worth pointing out because pretty much every other manufacturer has factory repair manuals available through official channels or leaked copies on eBay & Euro cars are so much cheaper to maintain when you don't have to pay dealership/independent specialist hourly rates and their marked up pricing on parts.

Will this company be around long enough to deliver you a car, let alone support it for years to come??

This thing is so ugly it looks like it was designed in Minecraft. Surprised the wheels aren't square.

  • $39 K and I might think about it! Tesla long range $50K , BYD Seal long range $45-50 K, happy to wait 2-3 years!

    • All good, doubt Polestar are going to be around in 2-3 years time.

  • Probably repeating last month's deal because not enough takers?

  • Polestar? Does it come with a stripper or do I have to source one myself?

  • -3

Polestar is rated higher than Tesla amongst enthusiasts, better quality and design.

    • +1

Test drove both recently. While the full digital dash and actual indicator stalks on the Polestar were nice, Tesla was way more comfortable to sit in, especially in the back seat. Better optioned for the money as well.

Chinese cars can copy the design even steal it but cannot copy or steal the know-how of long history in a short time.

  • +1

Chinese make too many EV cars and have to export with "Dumping Price Tags". Wait a year or half. Prices will go down further.

    • BS. you are just regurgitating MSM propaganda. Australia been one of the first overseas market Chinese brands expanded to most sold cars on the road are still the Japs and Korean manufacturers by a massive margin. If they're dumping it here we'll see the dump load of cars over taking those Jap/Korean brands or Chinese made cars selling for China domestic pricing or cheaper.

      • -1

Chinese cars are cheap with cheap battery. The battery can be recycled only 10%. Think about it.

        • No idea what you are talking about. Chinese EV batteries are leading edge and not to mention most (if not all) EV batteries are made in China.

China is not known to make good cars, but since EV batteries make up a huge component of EVs, it is certainly making a reset on brand / country of origin awareness of Chinese cars.

  • Love the design! Thanks for sharing.

    In other words,

We hiked our prices because we're greedy bastards taking advantage of inflated post covid bank accounts and government subsidies.
Now that's run out we're truly sorry and want you to go back to buying our cars pretty pleaseeeeeeeeee.

  • For that price, I’d rather go with a Tesla Model 3 😊

  • Driving one now and whilst it's fine it is pretty damned low rent for a $60k car. Go for something else.
