  • Doing a google on "Esky 52L" it appears there is alot of competition at better pricing, why would I buy this when competition is around the ~160 mark at normal list price?

Also, do you have permission to reference the trademarked name Esky?

    • +2

      Computer says No.

The thickness and type of insulation will probably vary. If you're referring to the Evakool 53L cooler for about $169 then you'll see it uses polyethylene insulation, which is inferior compared to polyurethane (which Polar Zone uses), which is why it's about 30% lighter than the Polar Zone product, despite having a slightly larger capacity. As for use of the word "Esky", that's as ubiquitously used as "Google" or "Uber" etc etc, and I've never seen anyone suggest they are owed royalties…I'm usually very wary of rep claims but this seems like a pretty decent deal, given what other offerings are charging (often double).

Seems its copyright to this company

        • +2

OP has done what many Amazon sellers do, unnecessarily gilded the lily in the title or description (often done on Amazon so google picks up the product when people search).

Nothing on the link says esky. As long as the article isn't labelled ESKY there's no reason it can't be described as an esky.

As far as your first comment goes - 'oils ain't oils, sol', as Harry has has explained. I have an old Techni-ice box quite similar to this. The 7 day claim is real enough if you use common sense. The insulation type, wall thickness, and seal is critical.

        • +3

Please. Every cooler, regardless of whether it's a Coleman, Esky or Polar Zone, is informally referred to as an "esky". You're being overly pedantic.

          • +1

@Ham Dragon: Sometimes 'chlly bn', bro.

            • @Igaf: Good point, culturally relevant to this part of the world too. I feel "cooler" is a north american term, like faucet or grill. What do the Europeans call an esky?

      • A vacuum is the best thermal insulator, air is a mediocre thermal insulator, weight has nothing to do with it. Not saying polyurethane isn't better. It's heavy due to the skin though since PE is lighter than PU usually, depends on type.

        • So it's tougher & stronger given the skin is heavier (therefore thicker)? Nice to know.

    • +2

esky built using high pressure injection is much heavier and more expensive. They can keep your beers cold longer.

Those cheap esky you found are likely less than 5kg while this one is 12kg.

There is no rocket science. The thicker denser the wall is, the longer it can hold the temperature. A techniice 55L (similar to this one) costs $314

      • +2

Source? Insulation is function of how many voids/cavities you can pack in the wall, not of mass.

‘Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always hit them with it’

  • how does this compare to like a Dometic Cool Ice CI42 Icebox 43L ? apart from the size, is it much better at keeping cold ?

    • The Polar Zone Advent Z55 is a premium cooler known for its superior cold retention compared to many models, including the Dometic Cool Ice CI42 Icebox.

Given you must order these online, you could do a much better job on the dimensions, ie. a more complete engineering style dimensioning would allow me to see if these would fit where I need it to. Also, no internal dimensions, can I fit a 2L milk/soda upright?

Negged because link goes to the 55L (description say 55L, subject says 52L) which is $299, and the only $199 is a 25L.

    • +1

You need to apply the discount code at checkout.

    • +1

Negged for getting more than advertised. Gee tough crowd.

    • Pedantic, trivial and juvenile deal votes and comments are really dragging Ozbargain down these days.

I agree both the internal and external dimensions are important on eskies (boom boom), portable fridges etc, and should be on the website, but you could simply ask the OP if a 2l milk will fit. You might have to explain what a "soda" is though /s.

      • Well I'd swear the code wasn't showing when I posted, I did come back and look when the link went to the 55L and I expected 52L from the title. The page said it was $200 off so I assumed discount already applied. If it was there then my bad.

        • 55 Quarts = 52 Litres

        • -1

All good soob. Any reason why you haven't revoked the neg ?

  • +1

Crazy how many thermodynamicists there are lurking in the comments section on Ozbargain these days.

    • +3

And tbh, if my beer stays cold for 23 or 24 hours isn't gonna have me lose sleep.

I mentioned I like these iceboxes on a previous deal and got heavily negged for some reason. So some people really do have high standards when it comes to beer coolage.

      • +1

I DONT THINK IT COMES TO STANDARDS MORE LIKE ANAL … THE DEAL IT THERE RESEARCH YOURSELF SIMPLE!

the size is off by 3 litres ohhh world will come to a crashing end… its not worth posting these days..too many complaints

        • Don't give up Mario, it's only a small minority who regularly consisently bag deals, whinge like cosseted adolescents and are unable to do 30 secs of basic research, or simply make a quick comment and move on. Over time you'll see the same nics constantly sticking their noses in, possibly hoping to compensate for something lacking elsewhere.

OP expalined the 55/52, and the deal revisions tell a story. Interestingly (well maybe not) the deal negger has posted 1 deal in 12 years

    • Yep. There are obvious reasons why vacuums aren't used for recreational eskies.

  • Thank you all for your kind comments and support, it's greatly appreciated! We apologise that the internal dimensions were not initially specified in the listing. Our team has now updated this information.

    • Excellent cs.

  • This $100 OFF Discount code is also valid for the Polar Zone Wheeled Cooler: https://www.polarzone.com.au/products/polar-zone-hard-cooler…

    • The daddy.

If you ain't rocking up to park with one of those, we ain't sharing no grill mate

  • Any plans on selling the 25 for $99 again @Raymond Leigh? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/837950

    • Thanks for your comment Malleeroot. Apologies, there is only one left for each colour in stock. If you are intereted, you can apply code 'PZAD50OFF' to get $50 OFF on the existing price. Cheers.

      • No worries, thanks

  • Pleased with the '25' that I bought. Impressive build quality (& big enough for my purposes).
