Yeah I know, who cares about the Pentax Q when you can get larger sensor mirrorless cameras like Micro Four Thirds or the NEX systems? I myself am already heavily invested in Micro Four Thirds. But (1) this is a pretty sweet price, and (2) it seems like it's actually capable of taking some very nice looking pics at the hands of a competent shooter. I haven't done an extensive search so I don't know if this is the cheapest but the nearest price I've found is close to double the price of this. Whether or not it's good value, I'll leave that up to you. I think there's already a newer model so you might want to keep that in mind if you're thinking of getting this.     just had a play with it.. love it! controls very intuitive though they really didnt need the dial at the front just to make it look trendy! put it on layby as i found out u can use westfield gift card…excellent!! 1 more left in store Mt Gravatt! ;) thanks OP

        Sure, sorry Thaikhoa, it is the same stock (only stock) that is or has been available. As was picked up pretty early on, this started as a ClubTed deal, so there is two listings on our site for the same product, you just can't navigate to the special priced one:) Hope this answers your question.

    If anyone gets their Pentax Q before next week and would like cash for it, please PM me! I ordered yesterday but when I called up today, they said there was no stock and it would be at least another week. I was banking on 3-5 days, and I need it by then for an overseas trip (it's not for me).

    I'll give you mine as soon as it arrives as well, so the only thing you miss out on is a few days of playing with the camera.

          Thanks! I opted for pick up but it wasn't available for pick up so they'll ship it for free. That'll have to do. Plus I found a $5 note on the ground while walking to work today. I'll take that as the universe giving me a pat on the back :p

        probably makes sense to shoot with the camera for a bit to see if you like its operation and IQ before investing in a lens worth more than the camera itself…just my thought.

      what do you mean limited deal? this deal has been active for at least 2 days and had sold hundreds. this is a discontinued model so you cant expect pentax to keep producing them or ted to keep ordering it in just so you can get one.

      well i saw this deal was up last night, tempted like u….then next day morning i saw this deal still active.Up on google did some research…. eventually brought it at 11am….
      very good camera at this price point i believe.
      if u really want one….keep your eye on other camera stores.
      Since this little guy last year was over priced and not everyone interested in this market. They should have sale coming soon if they still have the stock, because the Pentax Q10 is coming.

          Yeah I wouldn't go over $300 (unless you're super desperate) since you have a few other options in that price range (although you might have to buy from overseas). I've seen some of the older Olympus Pens and Panasonic GF cameras for less than $300 on Amazon although you'll have to figure out how to ship it here since I don't think they post cameras to Australia.

    It's good to see what this little camera is capable of. I think a lot of those can be achieved in the camera so no need to post process if you're too lazy for that sort of thing. Plus the macro pics are insane. I gotta get me some adapters.

        Sorry erwinsie, I don't have any K mount lenses so I probably won't be buying a K mount to Q mount adapter. I already bought an adapter for my C mount lenses and I have a bunch of Canon FD lenses so I may eventually get an adapter for those.

        From what I've read, it seems like you'll have to do manual focus. But the new firmware has focus peaking which should make manual focusing easier plus I think the shake reduction might now work with every lens (whereas before it only worked with Q mount lenses).

        I am considering getting a lens adapter, but for me to use my old Canon lenses. However due to the small sensor size you are going to see a very large (x5.5) increase in zoom. So I actually don't think any of my current lenses will be all that handy at all.

        Perhaps something to take into account.

          Good point and definitely something to keep in mind for anyone looking to adapt their existing lenses.

          The widest Canon FD lens I have is 35mm which would be 199.5mm on the Q. I also have a 135mm which would be 742.5mm. Should be good for taking pics of animals or going paparazzi style :p I can't wait to try this out on my telescope which apparently has a focal length of 900mm (4950mm on the Q).

          I'll have to rely on my C mount lenses for something wider. Or just stick to my existing cameras.

    Guys, this camera was on a fire sale because the next version has been announced. Supposed to have faster AF and response though on paper, the specs look identical!

    The Q10 has a lower US$ RRP compared to the Q. $549 vs $799

    The great news is that the system is still alive meaning that there will be future lens support! I'd be looking out for a prime wideangle lens.

    In terms of handling, the thing is tiny. Perhaps too much so. I wish it had a built-in EVF but who am I kidding for $200.

    Note that the shutter seems to be built into the lens and it's a little noisy. The whirring of the AF and the aperture blade movement are also noisy.

    Image quality: ISO perfomance is good and I'd top it out at 1600. Anything more has too much noise. Until I pull the shots onto my laptop, I can't really comment further.

    Buttons, dials and layout: In terms of operation, the dials and buttons are intuitive. The dials to control aperture and shutter speeds as well as modes (Aperture priority, auto etc) are excellent and often seem in prosumer point and shoots. I like the custom dial on the front. I currently set the camera to shoot in B&W (for street photography) but use the dial to quickly switch to colour when I want it. The info button is great too: it gives you quick access to useful settings such as AF focusing method, ND, filters, shooting format etc and you can change things within this quick menu instead of hunting through various pages in the regular menu. I'd love a butt to allow quick access to switch between JPEG and RAW though.

    Firmare updates: do this for the camera and lens to speeds up AF.

    All in all, good value at $199 for a compact with a fast, albeit fixed, lens. Putting the kit zoom sort of goes against the unobtrusive grain of the device.

    It's not going to replace my X100 or GF1 and it will struggle to replace my mobile phone camera because the lower image quality means it sits halfway in-between the APS-C and mobile-phone cameras!

      Thanks for posting your first impressions! :) Yeah I don't see it replacing my Olympus/Panasonic gear although I can see myself picking it over the bigger gear if I'm just going out for coffee/dinner/etc. since it's so small. Its main competition will be my Sony RX100 which goes with me everywhere. I will make them fight for my love and approval! :p

    Just ordered the tele 100mm toy lens for $63 from the Pentax forums so that should be a bit of fun - otherwise it looks like I'm going to get an adapter to hook up a 1:1 macro and get some amazing shots.

    Debating a finger strap now but curious whether such a small camera needs any strap full stop. Will have to wait until it arrives to see I guess..
