I own one and my dog absolutely hates this brush but is fine with others. Won't even come near me if I have it in hand

    • same, doesn't even brush, just catches the fur

        It’s really a detangler not a brush.

    • MIL has one, our cat hated it. When we lost her we gave her our furminator

  • That looks so painful
It's like an air conditioning radiator but with hooks

I use this for my ragdoll cats. You have to be gentle, but it really works well to get the extra fur out and after being particularly cautious for the first month, they now look forward to it. I also use a little trick, the brush in my right hand with my left hand pushing down on the base (the root) of the fur OR right hand does the brushing and left hand is used alternately to give them a pat. If you have long haired pets, this brush is brilliant. Just be gentle :-)

how does one prevent the ragdoll from biting you? our ragdoll absolutely hates being brushed - its a two man job with one person dispensing a treat to keep the teeth clear whilst the other brushes him.

Well, that's a tricky one if your pet hates being brushed. Does the cat like being patted? If so, perhaps you could try a few pats, then one gentle stroke of the brush, and build up to more strokes as each day goes by. Use the brush on the ends of the fur first (very important - we have to do that with our kids hair too), as opposed to starting at the roots (where it tends to be more matted and thick and difficult to get through). I'm not a vet, but I've heard that spraying hormone scents can relax them, but do it well before you even start. Make sure you're relaxed and not bracing for a struggle - they feel everything! As with dogs, it may be best to reward with your voice, not bribe with a treat. Cats are fabulous, but very clever. I hope something I have written may help. All the best.

        • One more thing, try different types of brushes. One of my cats particularly loves the glove styled brush (from eBay). The other likes the soft plastic brush with 8 long thick triangular shaped bristles (works like a massager as well). I alternate them all and only ever do it for a short time, a minute or two at the most, as brushing in certain spots stimulates production of their own hormones (which may even make them feistier than normal).
