you want to give velocity your gold card and make them take it away?

    • -3

No. Qantas does not need any new status holders, the lounges are as crowded as it is, I would prefer if Qantas raise SC requirements to 800 SCs for Gold Renewal and 1400 SCs for Platinum renewal. Also end DSCs.

      • upvote you as i share the same frust.

  • -5

Yes there is. I did it a month ago with

    • +5

Me too! I also did it two months ago with

      • The process was very easy with

As in you did a VA to QF status match? Could you please let us know how/post link?

      • -1

Yeah so you just need to use this link -

        • I think @ShatGPT menas having Qantas meet the status of Virgin…? Maybe…? I'm starting to get confused myself now…

      • +1

The only way to obtain a Qantas Status Challenge is through Level 3 Qantas Business Rewards, there are no current offers available

  • Yup did a status match now both QF and VA WP. (I'm typing this comment on a plane lol)

that have not held Silver, Gold or Platinum Status with Velocity since April 2020

    Bugger, rules me out.

    • -2

Im currently silver, need like 50SC for Gold… ill be pretty annoyed if they don't offer me the pilot because im silver.

      • +1

That's exactly what they said they would do. It clearly states that if you hold silver, then you are not eligible.

        • thats just silly, the idea of trying gold is so you fly more with them. For the most part, people who travel infrequently would prob's hit silver regardless. Such an unusual benchmark. The idea is you hold status with someone else, fly with us more often after trying this but wait….yeah nah, you cant because you're a silver member.

And yes, ive tried, im plat with qantas, but no go with Virgin status match sadly so i guess im sticking to Qantas for the time being.

          • -1

@dogzilla: Yeah, I agree it's annoying. I'm also not far from golf either. I guess they want to keep you striving for gold.

      • -1

Not what VA employee negged me, but my application was in fact declined. 😂 Back to QF i go.

    • +1

I just lost VAGold in Feb this year and successfully status matched again with Qatar

      • +1

I'm in a similar boat, trying with QFF Gold, will report back on how I go.

      • Doesn't status with Qatar also get you into VA lounges as they are close partners?

  • ill try if they match Air Canada

    • +1

Let us know how you go but isn't AC technically a partner?. I'm Aeroplan Gold so I'm keen

      • +2

Aeroplan Gold is already a partner.

        • oh i misunderstood the requirement - i thought it was FOR partner airline - not non-partners. this is what happens when i dont read

        • But you don't get a complimentary extra bag on Virgin with Aeroplan.

      • +7

Aren't we all after the HSBC status gold card haha

        • can you get velocity gold matching the complimentary hsbc star alliance gold? I know you get the same benefit but if you are strategic about it you can extend VF benefits by 10-12 months

        • now I wish I chose Thai Airways since they're not a Virgin Australia partner… oh well!

    • +1

Too bad AC is a partner. Although not a good partner lol (no Status Benefits, just FF benefits)

    • Update; no joy

  • +2

    shame there's rarely the reverse

    • With who, Qantas? They status match at least twice a year, I've done it a few times now. Just gotta keep your eyes peeled to Executive Traveller, Point Hacks or AFF.

      • they've ran status matches regularly but never Virgin as far as I'm aware, have you been successful in matching velocity to QF?

        • Yes, I have. I've done it 2 times now as I never fly with Qantas enough to get status.

          • @SimAus007: That's good to know, I'll try to look out for it

  • -3

Whats usually required to obtain this? What proof. (yes, you're thinking right)

    • A photo of your frequent flyer card or digital card.

  • " If the Eligible Velocity Member is a Platinum member (or above) with an eligible Frequent Flyer program and during the 3-month Switch-A-Roo Discover Gold trial period earned 200 Status Credits on flights with a VA flight number operated by Virgin Australia, the Eligible Velocity Member will receive Platinum Status for a period of 12 months from the date of assessment. Please allow for up to 8 weeks after the Discover Gold trial period for the Platinum Status upgrade to be processed and applied. "

So to match and keep QF WP need to fly 200 VA status credits in 3 months. hmm sounds like a fair status run needed (or for work).

    • MEL-SYD-MEL in business will give you 110scs, do it for work a couple of times.

    • Pretty easy for me. Do plenty of MEL <> PER trips for work

Gonna give it a go. Also QFWP. I do like the Virgin lounge in MEL

      • out of curiousity, this is the Virgin Lounge at Melb T3 yea? I am suspecting you must be referring to some higher tier Virgin lounge at Melb because the one i'm referring T3 Virgin was just very average…(similar to the Perth Virgin lounge…)

        • There are two grades of Virgin Australia Lounges.
          - Virgin Australia Lounges
          - Virgin Australia Beyond Lounges (Invitation Only, equivalent to Chairmans Lounge)

        • +1

Maybe my standards are lower given I put up with the awful NRT lounge for years lol.

I have no problem with the Virgin lounge in MEL and for years I preferred the MEL Qantas Club over the Business Lounge.

For my needs, it is sufficient :)

        • best use of Gold is at Sydney and Brisbane with priority entry direct into the lounge with its own security check in, you're in the lounge within 5min of airport drop off

  • Nice thx, my qantas gold ends this month

  • +3

lol…offer not available to anyone who's held status of any kind with Virgin….a bit of a crock if you ask me.

Or if you are Platinum equiv, you can directly match into Virgin Australia Platinum for 12 months without the need to complete the 200SC status challenge. (Best to do it after the campaign ends)

    • I tried that a month ago, couldn't get anywhere with them, very frustrating

      • For myself, I didnt have any status with VA, I think the account was 20 minutes old when I created the request.

  • Got declined based on having pilot gold in the past.

    Hi abcdefcuk

    We appreciate your interest on upgrading your status with us however, please note as per terms below;
Discover Gold will only be applicable to Velocity members with an equivalent status of many frequent flyer program (excluding partner Airlines of Velocity).
Velocity will never status match against an existing and upcoming partner airline (i.e. Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, etc.)
Thus, we regret to advise that your application for Discover Gold has been unsuccessful.
We appreciate your understanding. If there’s anything else we can do for you, please visit?www.velocityfrequentflyer.com or call the Membership Contact Centre on the number below.
    Kind Regards

    Serena

Harsh but fair i guess, just thought i'd try my luck with KFGE :'(

    • They are quite meticulous, aren't they?

I am assuming this is probably targeted towards those Gold members with OneWorld Alliance

      • I suspect so too. I am just hoping one of the OneWorld Alliance would do similarly to give StarAlliance a run for their moolah !

  • So whats preventing you from combining this offer with the triple status offer on at the moment? Can't see any terms and conditions with say they can't be used in conjunction with each other to reach the qualifying status credits.

Yeh does make it very easy to get the 200 eh. Doesnt seem to preclude it.

      • I rang the service team who were helpful and confirmed it does stack. So I booked a return flight that will give me 480 SC, more than enough for the 200 to qualify for Platinum.
        Amazing timing.

        • +1

Awesome thanks, I took the punt and booked enough to hit the 200.
