Could have bought this and returned under your old order

  • Here are the previous deals - seems at $130 it's getting upvoted a lot.

But what's special about this one?

    • Smart Inverter

Kills your Wifi in no time

      • I can second this, or at least anytime its cooking the wifi and bluetooth will cut in and out. Other than that, the microwave has been fine.

        • Try change your wifi channels. Mine is OK on channel 1. Bluetooth will still be a problem though.

          • @eug: Yeh my wifi is fine when I microwave but my AirPods will cut out when right next to it. Understandable.

          • @eug: Wow. Who buys this then? So many microwaves, and this one is getting upvoted for being cheap (?) but interfering with all things wireless?

I almost purchased it only after verifying I can switch off the sounds. Then I noticed it's not flatbed. Then these comments. Dodged the bullet!

All microwaves interfere with wifi, they just do it on different frequencies. e.g. this is the output from a Sharp microwave. The difference is the LG spreads its interference over more channels.

As I said, you can try and change your wifi channels to avoid the interference.

@eug: Thanks for explaining, eug. Still a nope to this one.

            • @pizzaguy: it's a great unit. I've had one for years. No issues with wifi, sounds like people have crappy home networks, also the sounds on this microwave are great - it does a gentle chime tune instead of beeping loudly. by default, it also chimes again every 2 minutes after ending if you haven't opened the door. this feature has saved me from completely forgetting about the tea / food i was heating while attending to other things around the house.

              • +1

                @eggboi: I agree, I have the 42L version and it's been a fantastic microwave.

                • @placard: Any noise from your microwave?
I also got the 42L one and it seems a little loud :/

                  • @Al123: No, if anything I have found it the quietest microwave I've ever owned.

I have the more expensive 42L version though which has nothing on the front door except for the slider and if you want to access the buttons you have to open the door.

The cheaper version has a narrower door so the buttons behind are always visible.

        • Mine cuts out if the microwave goes on longer than 1.5 minutes but short ones are ok

      • +1

What I've been looking for ever since Intel Pentium was introduced and processors stopped interfering with the kitchen radio.

      Probably cos of the chime

  • Does this also make that very annoying chime?

@Magicmannn: I heard people hate the chime, I kind of like it.

              • +8

@crazyperpman: I bloody love the chime

              • +2

@crazyperpman: The chime is fine… if it went off once and kept quiet. But instead it keeps chiming over and over again unnecessarily until you give it attention. That's the annoying part.

                • +3

@eug: It is there to remind you that you have food inside the microwave that you haven't touch. It is amazing how many people forgets. I think it's a brilliant idea from LG. This is a really good price.

                  • -4

@craving: Imagine light bulbs that constatly beep to remind everyone they're on in case people left the room and forgot to switch it off. Just in case. Never mind all the people who actually register what they do…

                  • +3

                    @craving:

They should at least give an option to disable the repeats. I can understand some people forgetting if they have lots of things to do at the same time, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who heat something up because they want to eat it, so they won't forget it because they're hungry.

That would explain the videos on YouTube explaining how to turn the sound off which have over half a million views combined. :)

                    • +1

@eug: If you don’t forget the food, the repeating chime is not an issue. It only repeats every 1-2 mins.

                • +1

@eug: It echos through the house during night time when I’m trying to heat up a midnight snack

                  • +2

@Magicmannn: Every professional midnight snacker knows to watch the timer like a hawk, and stealthily pop the door right before the countdown ends!

                    • @eggboi: Ha ha. As a midnight snacker, I don't usually even wait for the end of the heating time, I just open it early and snack away. So no problems with the timer sound.

                • +1

@eug: having it chime every 2 minutes to remind you is far less annoying than forgetting about the thing you heated and then walked away from.

                  • +1

@eggboi: Sure, but as I said, forgetting food that was heated up is not an issue whatsoever for many people. Having it repeatedly chime is annoying for those people. Giving an option to disable the reminder will appease everyone.

                    • +1

@eug: The LG supports this. Put your cold food in the microwave and then don't press Start.

                    • +1

@eug: I agree having a choice is best. I currently rent, and the shitty dishwasher beeps very loudly and slowly 8 times at the end of cycle. Woke us up every night. There’s no way to disable it. I even took the front panel off the dishwasher to muffle it, and the beeper is buried way down inside the door somewhere. I resorted to installing a smart plug with a timer and setting it to kill the dishwasher about 5 mins before end cycle.

Hilariously, even then, the stupid thing uses it’s dying breath to make one more beep. Yes - it even beeps when you switch it off at the wall. I guess you have to pay extra if you want the “luxury” of not being woken at 3am by the dishwasher 😂

  • Any advantage over a conventional microwave?

    • +1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a conventional microwave. It has a turntable.

What I get is this isn't conventional as it has an inverter. But it's not a flatbed one and still spins the food.

      • My bad, thought its was a convection microwave.

        Need coffee

        • are those with the little grill and oven feature?

          • @FoxJump: Yep, basically a combination of a normal electric element oven and microwave.

            • @iDroid: yeah i have one of those.
              THEY SUCK

              do not buy.

              • +1

@FoxJump: The one you bought sucks.

                • @aec: :'(
                  damn you Panasonic !

      • I believe only Panasonic do a flatbed one, and it's not that highly rated (some ppl love it, some hate it)

        • +1

I've got one (panasonic). Would strongly recommend.

          • @Ezuku: ive got the panasonic flat bed convection.
            crap.
inconsistent cookign times in mw feature.
over and grilll take for ever.

much easier to cook in an airfrier

          • @Ezuku: I also love my cheap Panasonic inverter flatbed.

Too quick on the draw this time. Ha ha.

    • doesn't seem to work

  • +2

    Bought. Didn't stop to research.

    • +2

I've got the bigger version, no complaints and completely converted to buy an inverter style over conventional microwave.

  • Had this but had annoying power issues. Never again
Switched to flatbed inverter. Best thing ever

    • what's a flatbed inverter

      • +6

That thing that flips and airs your bedding once you get up and leave the room.

      • No revolving plate. Witchcraft!

        • so ants can't run away

    • Switched to flatbed inverter. Best thing ever

How do you find the evenness? The last time I tested a Panasonic flatbed it was really uneven compared to a turntable one. That was a few years ago though, so I'm wondering if things have improved.

      • My sharp has been fine

    • +1

I've only used 1 flatbed inverter microwave and it was terrible - the most uneven heat distribution ever. Was a Panasonic.

Nothing against Panasonic - my current microwave is a Panasonic inverter (with turntable) - love it.

    • Sorry to dredge up an old post — but could you please let me know which inverter flatbed microwave you got and whether you'd still recommend? I'm finding it hard to choose….

        Super spacious. Fast.

        • Thank you! Will check it out

Isn’t this the infamous wifi killer microwave?

    • You can change your wifi channels to avoid it. Mine is clear on Ch 1. You can also use 5.8GHz wifi which is faster anyway.

      • You can also use 5.8GHz wifi which is faster anyway.

But has lower range and often is not compatibile with IoT setups.

        • +1

Try and change wifi channels then.

        • Yep!
Almost all IoT products only work on the 2.4 GHz band.

    • +1

Mine is the 42L one and if it's in the line of sight of your router and devices it will definitely disrupt them, or if they have a weak signal to begin with. Because many people have their wifi router in the kitchen I imagine this does impact wifi networks quite a lot.

Fortunately my layout is all good in my mansion so my wifi is fine.

      • For what it’s worth, they screwed your painting up

  • Don’t buy caught fire same with replacement

    • +6

what were you cooking? a cup of oil

Have had mine for 7 years… What were you heating up

      • -2

Each to their own, thought I’d warn others but didn’t expect this response, keeping my mouth shut from now. Btw 1st one lasted 3 years and sparked and caught fire went to lg service at Arndell park was given a new one which did the same in 8 months time. Bye
