  We are introducing updated Uber Cash Terms and Gift Card Terms of Use.

  Gift Card Terms

  You can read the new Gift Card terms in full here. These changes will be effective from 20 June 2024. These new terms:

  • Clarify that Gift Cards are now a stand alone payment method and can no longer be used to top up Uber Cash.
  • Explain your options once you purchase a gift card. For example you may choose to activate your Gift Card in your Uber Wallet or to transfer or gift the Gift Card to another person.
  • Confirm that Gift Cards are not reloadable and that once activated, a Gift Card is no longer transferable i.e. it can no longer be gifted.
  • Confirm that there is a time limit for activation. If an Uber Gift Card is not activated before its expiry date, the value standing to the credit of the Uber Gift Card is forfeited.
  • Inform you that once you or your giftee has activated a gift card into their Wallet the balance does not expire.

  Uber Cash Terms
  In addition, we have updated the Uber Cash terms here to reflect that Gift Cards may no longer be used to top up Uber Cash balance. These changes will be effective from 20 June 2024.

    That sucks. If I'm understanding it correctly, it will basically work like a pre-paid debit card, which means it will be really hard to use the exact amount of the gift card.
    Is that correct?

      I don't think so given this line:

      3.7 Redeeming multiple gift cards. If you activate multiple gift cards, the gift card balances available to you will be aggregated and reflected in your Uber Gift Card balance.

        Trying to work out if there's much difference. I think split payments are still allowed ie can use Uber Cash, then Uber gift cards (combine balance) and debit or credit card?

          @trixieb: It sounds like it:

          3.6 Secondary payment method. You may be required to add a secondary Payment Method to use the Uber Gift Card with the Uber app or the Uber Eats app if the balance from the Uber Gift Card is not sufficient to cover the price of your Transaction.

          My understanding is that they're just splitting Uber Cash and Uber Gift Cards into two separate balances. The latter can be loaded with up to $5,000 whereas the former had a $1,000 maximum balance. I don't think it'll fundamentally change how you use Uber gift cards, though hopefully you can still switch the payment method on past orders to use your Uber Gift Cards balance.

  ShopBack is becoming very unreliable with those sort of limited redemption bonus cashbacks on giftcards.

  Promo redemption tracking is not refleced live. It almost feels that they are purposly delaying rewards tracking, so baiting more people purchase giftcard when promo limit is already exhausted.

  After falling for the trap a few times, those of promo feels more like gamble than actual discount or reward.
