Too expensive. Got it under $1,000 during preordering from Samsung.

    • Can you go back in time and get me one?

      • +1

You can wait for another sale from Samsung this year, maybe the upcoming EOFY? Or HODL for S25U if your current device is still running strong.

        • I have a note 8 as its not supported anymore I can't upgrade a lot of apps. I just checked the S23 Ultra, still around the $1500 mark!

    • +9

What do you mean got it for under $1,000 it's never been under $1,000. Unless you trade in your old phone, which still basically still paying for it.

      • +1

You can pay $60 of non return fee and enjoy the trade in discount. It is better to sell it on Facebook. If you trading in phone's value is less than $60, you should send it to them.

        • +3

Yeah, but you saying you got it for under $1,000 is mute when you trade in a $1,000 phone.

I got the Samsung S24 Ultra for free. I traded in my wife's Samsung S24 Ultra.

This is crazy, this shouldnt even be the release price for this phone. They took away the note series, merged it into S series, and to increase ultra sales, completely castrated the plus series. And finally copied the pricing from apple.

Even though Apple prices are higher, they maintain thier resalve value. No point paying this much for an Android phone that will lose its value like crazy. To add to the insult, The Pura 70 Ultras camera runs circles around this.

They should have kept the note series or provided the S Pen with the Fold Series. I'll probably never buy an Ultra model again if they continue this price. Even that aside, the ultra is too heavy and bulky as well as having a pen I don't need. Too bad our phone market is very limited here, compared to places like the US and Asia.

You're right about it being comparable to Apple in Price. So much for Samsung being cheaper than Apple, like many people will say all over the internet. I'd much rather get an iPhone 15PM over an S24U if I could use android on the iPhone. And I'm currently rocking an S20 FE, so I'm not an "isheep" or whatever apple users are called these days.

      • +2

I am yet to see a person taking thier pen out and scribbling on the phone. They could have maintained the plus series at the same level and added an headphone jack and a good grade DAC in the same space and made it more consumer friendly.

        • +7

I would rather ditch the spen and exchange for larger battery or slimmer size. S pen should have been an optional choice.

        • +3

Still on a Note 8. Used my pen less than a handful of times. A bigger battery would have been a good use of the space. I guess the pen saves money and gives them a gimmick to advertise.

I just can't get into ios though.

        • +1

I was set to get an iPhone 15PM (for around $1550 after quadruple stacking) only due to its video quality. But yeah ended up getting an S24U last week for $1400. Can't deal with iOS at all.

    • The price is fine where it is. Everyone knows these things fly off the shelf for 50% off rrp on release day, inflated rrp keeps the resale just that much higher.

Huawei can come with the best best phone if they want, they're basically neutered at this stage to the western world. 5g disabled, app optimisation for Kirin processors suck, banking apps disabled - no one spending this much money would seriously consider dropping the usability of the whole phone just to get a slightly better camera. Shame really because the mate 20X was one of the best phones I've owned.

No one cares about good audio on phones, every reviewer praised LG for doing it on their phones and look how popular their phones are today. Just out of curiosity - tl what headphones do you use that needs a dac? Do you have a tidal account?

Not really all that much as I used to listen a decade ago. Blame the old age, have moster turbine pro coppers, HD598 etc which will be easily beaten by the very affordable chinese multi driver IEMs today. I was speaking in general. A headphone jack gets used more than a Sucker PEN anyday. LG was losing the market for many other reasons like why sony is losing.

Agree huawei is neutered. I am still on a P30 Pro and absolutely love it. Just mentioned PURA to give a comparision as to why Samsung Camera is not all the great to demand that kind of money while they have so much to improve.

        • "In general" people want wireless, noise cancelling earphones with a good quality mic - "audiophiles" have always hyped themselves up thinking alot of people really give a sh*t about "reference" audio. Harman tuning is what the masses want and Samsung gave them the buds and the k371. Now that people have gotten a taste of wireless iems, I highly doubt a headphone would be used more than a pen.

Pen isn't going anywhere, it's always been a flagship feature, you really expect Samsung to make an ultra phone without a pen? Basically 2 models just 1 without a pen just because you people want to save $50, are you OK lmao.

What improvements do they actually need? I had a look at a few sample images and they basically trade blows, obviously at night the 1" sensor does better but I wouldn't completely say the Huawei has a better camera, the Samsung is more consistent and the Huawei is softer.

How high do you think that Huawei would rank on:
          - camera
          - software support
          - ecosystem
          - overall phone performance

I bet that Huawei can only score top marks on camera, does it deserve to be priced amongst other flagships from Google, oppo, one plus? It costs $2k to import that here btw.

And you're asking how Samsung can demand those prices lol.

          • @krisspy: You are totally right mate. I agree with you.

This is way too expensive to be a deal for the S24U

  • +4

Samsung EOFY starts in three days. HODL.

    • +1

Hopefully they will still have the trade-in bonus too.

  • If you have something to trade in, better off price matching at JB and then using the $300 bonus coupon from squaretradeup
