YouTube Premium Mex$139/Month (A$11.39), Mex$1390/Year (A$113.89), Students Mex$79/Month (A$6.47) - Mexico VPN Required

534

NB: For those not caught yet, YouTube has been cracking down on foreign accounts so most international countries are blocked for new signups, and they are cancelling Premium subscriptions once your current term runs out. And they know exactly what they’re doing because all of the countries with similar high pricing to Australia still allow signups. There seem to be pricing bands.

This is the only region I can find that is a worthwhile amount cheaper than Australia. Nothing like the past, but it’s something.

  1. VPN to Mexico (I used the cheap TorGuard deal).
  2. Navigate to YouTube Premium (https://www.youtube.com/premium) in the browser and sign up.
  3. I don’t know if this is required but for the post code I added an extra zero to the end of my Australia post code (which ends in zero) so it just looked like a typo. I used Revolut.

That simple. No special accounts required.

After trying a few countries I was able to sign up successfully to Israel for the Family plan which was a few bucks cheaper than Mexico - AU$17.83/month

  • I'm on YouTube Premium via Pakistan. I wonder if using a vpn to stream now and then would help keep the subscription as they may think we from there. I have started doing this.

  • I was able to sign up via Romania, funnily enough the modem was set to Philippines.

    • whats ur vpn?

      • PureVPN

        • I get "this offer is not available" or something. Also using purevpn

  • Aaagh. I stupidly let my Indian subscription run out and now I am looking for a new cheap deal. Is this Mexican one still the best option?

  • My Turkey expired today… can't get to Nigeria or Pakistan.. any other country and VPN recommendations please?

  • pakistan worked!

  • Just had my Pakistan cancelled :(

    • +1

Same. Just had the cancellation email today

      • I got one today too for my Pakistan youtube premium family account :( Going to miss only paying $5/month

  • Just signed via Israel @ AUD 9.55 /m via Norton VPN, Urban VPN Android or Windows app should work too.

    • Same. Israel as well. Hopefully it sticks though.

  • +1

Got booted from Turkey last month and have managed to sign up to Israel through Urban VPN and Mozilla. $18/mth on the family plan sure beats $42.

    • -2

Wouldn’t you have the same problem next month?

    • -2

Terrible deal lol. Turk was less than$5 for fam.

      • I’m fully aware of what the price was because I was on it….until I got booted. You think I went out of my way to pay 4x more???

        • Just saying they must be better prices/counties
Without looking even Thailand may be better.
Good effort though (and was replying to the MEX price).

          • +1

@G-rig: Obviously there are better prices but like others, it’s hit and miss on which countries people can manage to sign up to.

I took a tour on NordAir for the cheapest family plan, travelled all around the world, and ended up almost back home.

    And the winner is…
Papua New Guinea! It's charged in USD - not Kina - and is $8.99/A$13.40/month.
Next was Kazakhstan @ 5,000 Tenge/A$15.25. Very nice.
    Then Bolivia @ 71.90 Boliviano/A$15.40 and BOB's your unclecurrency.
Last is Serbia @ 1,149 Dinar/A$15.95. That's Serbian Dinars - don't confuse them with Yugoslav Dinars.

For the address I just looked on Maps at Port Moresby (Nesenel Kapitol Distrik) and made an address similar to a random place.
    Gutpela lak!

PS. To be Franc, don't bother going to Liechtenstein. A$43 :o

    • just flew nord air to port Moresby and youtube complains it cant verify my country . showed me Kazakhstan prices though when i flew there.

      • Yeah someone above used Pakistan a few days ago which I couldn't get to. I wonder why? Racism I tells ya!

      • +2

It might depend on the server IP/ISP that Nord assigns you when you connect, I reckon keep reconnecting to try different servers as some of them probably aren't getting detected properly. #1 didn't work for me but I was able to see the correct prices connecting to Papua New Guinea #2 (you can search for the specific server in Nord)

        • We need a poll for each VPN providers for some common locations so we can see success rate.

        • +2

Got this to work. Kept trying to connect via NordVPN to PNG #2 and it went through.

          • @westzod: Unfortunately #2 isn't working for me with Nord. Keen to hear anyone else's thoughts.

            • @wearytraveller: the first time i had a look at YouTube PNG (a few nights ago), i was able to see the the pricing options after maybe just half a dozen refreshes of my Nord connection… when i was ready to go ahead last night, probably took like 50 or more refreshes… just kept on refreshing while doing/watching other things…. neither PNG1 or PNG2 worked, until one finally did… (can't remember which one in my case)

              • @screamingV10F1days: Just spent the best part of my 1-hour lunch break refreshing Nord servers, couldn't get anything to appear :/
Id say easily over 200+ reconnections to PNG.

    • Thanks mate,
Got PNG to work after multiple attempts at refreshing NordVPN server

    • I've gone to Romania as per someone's comment above and for family plan it is RON 39/month which is around A$12/month. I used my Wise card.

    • +1

Thank you, couldnt get any of the other countries to work, the usual "we couldn't verify your country"

Ended up tunnelbear'ing into Serbia - random serbia address, family plan for $15AUD/Month

    • +1

just flew the same with nordair and working now!! $8.99 USD a month. thanks @McFly!!!

    • +1

Nov 3: just tried this with PNG and it works! You're a legend! @McFly

  • +3

My Pakistan family account just got blocked today.

Trying Algeria but not holding my breath. $18 a month is so much more than the $4 I was paying.

    I hate Google so much.

  • My Turkish residency has just been revoked and told to update my payment method. Unsure if triggered by removing a family member & adding a gift card to wallet using Australia country… or just bad luck.

    • Just bad luck, I got the same message same day with no changes.

    • I received my notice just now. 😭

  • +1

Just received an email that my Ukraine Account will be needing payment update by November 14, was enjoying the $3.60 service.

  • +5

Hi all, I just received an email to update form of payment before November 14, 2024, because 'YouTube Premium memberships based in Turkey require a form of payment issued in Turkey'. What's the cheapest country that still works for a family plan? If I sign up to a new country via VPN, do I need to use a new email address or just using the same account and change country?

    • Same here, just got the email.
YouTube Premium memberships based in Turkey require a form of payment issued in Turkey.

To maintain your membership, please update your form of payment to one issued in Turkey before November 14, 2024. If you do not update your form of payment, your membership will not renew automatically, and you will lose access to your YouTube Premium benefits.

If you have moved to a different country and need to update your signup country, please cancel your membership and re-sign up.

      • Yep, got the same email about Argentina. That was a great ride paying $2 (before it went up to $6) for family.

      • I got the same email. Maybe a google play gift card issued from the country? www.shopon.pk/google-play-gift-cards/

        • Is there a way to choose play gift cards as a payment option?

    • Me too today. Wouldn't iOS method via Turkey Apple account would work? I will just wait until my sub drops after the payment update due date and will try this.

  • -1

mexico premium was easy, used same family, and pay with revolut, about $21aud for family, used nordvpn mexico

  • +1

paid about 6.90 AUD for family after my Argentina sub got punted

basically followed this guide below. indian apple id. load gift cards on it purchased through amazon. subscribe to yt premium with the credit on your apple id.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/862977#comment

    • Thanks @mgtra !!! After reading your comment I tried the same with my Turkish Apple ID (use it for Microsoft office) - and it worked without a hitch! Cheers.

      • May try this too. Got an apple id from years ago (and for apple tv signup), does it work if don't have any Apple devices, have never looked at the payment methods.

        • I did both YT Premium and MS Office with an old iPhone 6.

    • had to cancel my 28 degrees card after the monthly fee farce… updated my Argentina sub. card went through. about 2 weeks later i get the … you're not in the country email and they cancelled it.

hence i tried this ios payment method.

hopefully yours stays and doesnt flag like mine did

      • Fingers crossed. Out of interested when you updated card did you use a vpn or just log in from Oz normally?

      • Apologies made an error at some time I switched to Turkey - dont even remember.

  • Nooooooooooooooooo. I finally got the email about my Ukraine subscription :(

Edit: I was able to add a different card and it seems to have accepted it, but I guess I'll see what happens when it renews next month.

    • I got the same, my Turkey holiday is coming to an end. I updated payment method as well. Let's see what happens next month.

    • Did you use another Aussie card or a virtual one like Revolut?

    • It worked! My subscription lives to see another month. It was another Aussie card (was on Westpac debit, now on NAB credit).

      • +1

And now I got another email saying it will end at the end of this month. No "please update your payment method" this time.

  • Turkey booted me out too. got to the 21st November

  • +2

Turkey gone here too, received this morning. I guess blockers are the way to go now.. google lost $2 a month trying to make $20

  • Kicked out of Pakistan over here. Wonder if Mexico will be safe. They’re not listed on that “a form of payment” page that Google sent out, so maybe they’re okay.

  • Thanks OP. Just moved back to Australia from Turkey. What's the best option for a family plan ? Mexico or PNG?

  • +2

Have been deported from India yesterday :(

Looking at moving to Australia, but $30+ AUD a month (family) is insanely high.

  • Booted out of Pakistan. Packing my luggage shortly

  • Got my deportation advice from Turkey also today…!

  • Got kicked out of Argentina unless I update to a form of payment from Argentina within the next 30 days. No chance I'm paying Australian prices

    • +1

I’m trying to find a virtual payment from Argentina

      • Let me know if you found any please. I also got the 30 day notice.

      • Did you have any luck?

        • No unfortunately. Not yet

  • 30 days notice from YouTube Pakistan 😭 need to find a new place

  • 30 days notice from Nigeria today, was paying $1 a month for the last 6 months or so 😒

  • Same booted from Pakistan! anyone know if a wise card will do the trick?!

something else interesting i read was try sign up through Google subscriptions rather than through YouTube itself not exactly sure how this is done though!

  • same being deported back to AU from AR, Wise card payment isn’t accepted just tried adding my card, did try a different card which accepted so guess we’ll see what happens!

    • Which bank card did you use that was accepted?

      • I used a bank card (mastercard) instead of a credit (visa) it accepted the card but will have to wait and see when it renews if go through 🤞

        • Which bank?

  • Booted from Pakistan. Tried other countries (Argentina/Phillipines/Ukraine/India/Nigeria) with no luck. Mexico worked seamlessly with existing Mastercard debit. No need for address. At least I shouldn't have to worry about it for another year.

  • Also got booted from Pakistan.
Confirming annual MX works fine cost me $106.48 converted with Wise. That'll get me through to next year atleast.
Tried YTLitePlus but way too annoying having to sign the app every 7 days especially when you're travelling a lot and just wanna load up your phone.

  • Had a good run..

YouTube Premium memberships based in Turkey require a form of payment issued in Turkey.
    .
‌To maintain your membership, please update your form of payment to one issued in Turkey before 21 November 2024. If you do not update your form of payment, your membership will not renew automatically and you will lose access to your YouTube Premium benefits.

  • My wife, myself and a friend were all using India, my wives account was cancelled. I was asked to update payment details, when i did it said failed but updated and took payment. MY account is still active and i Believe my friends India family account is still active.

    • what new card did you use?

      • +1

Same card, Just my Ubank card.

  • +4

I’ve also been booted out of India after many many wonderfully cheap years. Just tried via Turkey using the method in this deal whilst connected to Turkey with NordVPN. Paid using Apple Pay and seems to be working fine 75.99TRY/month. Fingers crossed

    • Thanks! If my Ukraine subscription doesn't renew at the end of this month, I may need to flee the country and seek asylum in Turkey.

        • +1

The post is able using Apple Pay as the payment method, which I'm guessing hides which country the card is from.

            • @G-rig: Still cheaper than Australia

              • -2

                @puffinfresh: You reckon?
MEX A$11.39 vs AU $16.99 (individual)

                • -1

@G-rig: If my math serves me correctly, $11.39 is indeed cheaper than $16.99.

                    • @G-rig: My Turkey one's just been picked up, D'oh!
off to find another country :-)

          • @puffinfresh: Correct. Apple pay balance is topped up using iTunes gift cards from Turgame (I'd forgotten about that part cause I haven't topped up for a year or two). Nothing AU related with payments, so hopefully gets around payment checks. Just until they look a bit harder at geolocation of where you're watching from…

    • Would you mind giving a few more details on the steps taken?
After adding the TL iTunes credit to the account as per the link, you connected to VPN on the phone then signed up and paid via the YouTube app membership screen? Thanks.

      • +2

Correct, I did this (sorry may not be 100% correct as I wasn't paying full attention, wasn't expecting it to work):
        1. I already had the Turkey iTunes account set up and loaded with credit via TL gift cards per the link (for other OzBargainerry)
        2. Connected to Turkey VPN via Nord (not sure if this is essential but did it to be sure to be sure)
        3. [sorry this bit is a bit fuzzy from my memory] Open up the Youtube app, click 'you' at the bottom of the screen, then click 'settings' at the top (cog wheel), click 'purchases and memberships', then at the bottom of the page there was something about signing up to the family plan for xxxTRY (I had family plan with India account) clicked on that then a page popped up to sign up. Chose individual membership, then it popped up with the apple pay thing, double click, scan my face, then voilà
        4. ……
        5. Profit!

        • This method worked for me. No need for VPN connection. Note that the subscription price is higher (150 TRY) when purchased via Apple in-app purchase (it's not called Apple Pay).

          • +1

            @kackstelze: Worked for me too!

            • No need VPN (as kackstelze said)
            • Confirming the higher 150TRY price for the family plan when going via Apple-in app purchase, which was deducted from my Apple Credit which I had for Microsoft 365 subscriptions anyway
            • Used existing Turkey AppleID which I used for Microsoft 365 subscriptions
            • @illumination: Ok just an update on this.

I tried doing this a second time on the same device, using the same Turkish AppleID, but for a different google account.

Did not work, because it seems the subscription is tied to the AppleID, so it just tells me that I've got an existing subscription and asks me if I wish to review/manage it.

So if you're trying to do it for more than one Google account, you need an individual AppleID for each YouTube subscription!

              • @illumination: Are you saying that the Youtube family subscription's family manager account is linked to the Apple ID it's signed in?

I have a Turkish AppleID only for onedrive and icloud subscriptions, do I need to change the Youtube family manager to the AppleID's email address first? I just checked in Youtube, it seems that I can't transfer the family manager role to any family members, but to cancel the whole family group.

                • @qiminghenfan: Yes, the YouTube subscription through this way is tied to the AppleID it's signed in to. And each AppleID can only have one active subscription type at a time, even if you try to get the second YouTube subscription on a separate YouTube account.

So how could you get around it? By signing up for a second Turkish AppleID.

I have a Turkish AppleID only for onedrive and icloud subscriptions, do I need to change the Youtube family manager to the AppleID's email address first?

No, the actual email doesn't need to match.

            • +1

@illumination: Confirmed this works, no VPN required!

              • Family monthly TRY149.99, go to Turgame to buy gift cards, takes 5 mins for code to arrive
              • YouTube Premium has to be subscribed by Google Family Manager (cannot be a Family Member, unlike Google One)
              • I disbanded my old Family (AUD) and use the throwaway Google account as Manager, add everyone back in, TRY payment profile for Google One annual
              • Setup a TRY iTunes account and subscribe on iPhone's YouTube app
