Funny. This time everyone will be looking for (?hiding) the $50 cards instead of the $100 cards

    • +2

its aight, there are always quieter coles that no one cares about hiding cards at

      • -1

it really isn't about how quiet the store is. It's about the neighbourhood.

for instance ColesWorth in Hurstville NSW never have any popular gift card available unless you go in Wednesday morning dispite there's 2 Coles and a Woolies right against each other.

Woolies just outside of Hurstville never suffer this issue.

  • glad to see a 10% back - will get a few 50s if I can

    • Actually scrap that. Woolies has the 100s. Perfect timing for the Special gift card

  • Are the TCN cards the ones that are prone to hacking? I want to get $1500 worth for an IKEA purchase but don't want to risk losing that amount of money if the cards aren't secure.

(I just got a Woolies catalogue that has a similar deal for Everyday Rewards members - 10% off various TCN cards, so I'd be buying from Woolies.)

    • -1

Why not post it as a deal

      • I'm new to posting & assume that it's been posted already.

Also, it looks like the Woolies cards may not cover IKEA. Am I right in thinking TCN Gift, TCN Her, TCN Kids, TCN Baby, and TCN Teen (which are in the Woolies WA catalogue) are different to similar sounding cards with "Ultimate" in their name?

      • +2

Because the moderators are very likely to take the deal down if it is posted before Monday 5pm AEST.

If you go to post a deal for Woolworths on OzBargain, you will be greeted with this message:

        • DO NOT post upcoming weekly catalogue pricing until its public release from Woolworths, which is 5PM (AEST/AEDT) on Mondays. Upcoming weekly catalogue pricing is considered as confidential information, and will be removed by moderators without notice if posted before public release.

The only situation where posting a deal from an upcoming Woolworths catalogue is permitted is if a Woolworths store themselves put up advertising posters early (such as in this deal).

        • +1

Just curious, how do people get upcoming weekly catalogues before public release?

          • +3

            @VinceNT90: My theory is:

Sometimes, whoever is responsible for delivering catalogues to household letterboxes may deliver them a little earlier than when Woolworths themselves release the catalogue online (Monday 5pm AEST/AEDT).

Sometimes, you have people who work in the creation and/or distribution of the catalogues who will leak information out beforehand.

            • @WookieMonster: Thanks, I was thinking insider knowledge or something too. Purchased a gift card in an Amazon sale recently only to see someone saying Coles will have an even bigger sale in a few days (arghhh!). Would have been handy to know beforehand haha.

            • @WookieMonster: I often get catalogues delivered to my letterbox on the weekend before the specials start. ie on the Sat/Sun before the Wed when the specials kick in. This is quite common for many suburbs in WA.

        • Bad mods bad

    • Same. I am looking at buying ikea stuff

      Can you stack them instore?

Do these have any activation costs?

Or is $45 getting you $50 and that's that.

  • Been out of the GC game for a bit so don't know if anything has changed but which one do I buy to get Apple Gift cards and which store do I go to so I can convert.

    • +6

      Good luck.

There are two issues to keep in mind if you are trying to purchase Apple gift cards using Ultimate gift cards:

      1. It is against the terms and conditions of the Ultimate gift card scheme to purchase any gift cards or vouchers at participating retailers.

      2. For participating retailers, they nowadays usually have a policy saying that you cannot use Ultimate gift cards to purchase any gift cards.

The only participating retailers in this deal that I can think of that sells Apple gift cards are JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks.

      • At JB Hi-Fi, they have a gift card policy that officially does not let you purchase an Apple gift card using any Ultimate gift cards (as that falls under JB Hi-Fi's definition of "third-party JB Hi-Fi gift cards"). Having said that, I suspect it is up to staff to enforce that policy, so if you only ever tell a staff member you want to use a Visa card or card as a payment method, you can probably get away with it.

      • At Officeworks, they have a gift card policy that officially does not let you purchase any gift cards with any kinds of gift cards. However, unlike JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks has gone the extra step and updated their checkouts to automatically reject any Ultimate gift cards as a payment method if you are trying to purchase any gift cards (e.g. Apple gift cards, Coles Group & Myer gift cards).

      • Legend, was hoping you would chime in since you're so on top of things. The last time I did this was for the iPhone 14 launch and managed to convert them at JB, the clerk did think I was getting scammed though and tried to make sure I wasn't doing the silly ATO scam which was actually really nice. I told them I was using it to preorder the new iPhone for 10% off and he was like wow that's smart, haha.

What about actual Apple Gift cards, I see Flybuys and the Woolies rewards happen often, though I'd rather the 10% off proper than points. I do remember at some point buying cards from one of the websites (card.gift?)

Anyway thanks for the heads up, always gets a bit stressful for me when I have to prep for something like this with a bit of hoops, happened last time I ordered the ip14.

        • +1

The sort of deals you see these days for Apple gift cards are typically the 20x points deals you see at Coles or Woolworths (or BIG W). I suggest you keep an eye on the Apple gift card product page to see what recent deals have been like (and also get alerts on future deals).

    • Better to buy the Apple Gift Cards from Coles before it's being gone.

  • -1

Be warned with these gift cards that they don't work like regular gift cards at most of the stores listed, they work more like a prepaid Visa card.

For example, with Officeworks online, you can only spend up to the value of the card, because you can't add a second card for the remainder of the payment. They can do split card payments in store though.

Also BE VERY MUCH WARNED that I had an ultimate gift card that wasn't accepted at any of the stores I tried - one of the retail staff noticed the gift card actually said USD, which they just couldn't process. As a last ditch effort, I tried to spend it at Shein which could probably handle USD, which finally worked, but it was still only the AUD value (ie only the $100, not $160 worth). After all that drama and about 5 attempts to spend it, I'll never trust them again.

    • You should exchange it for Shein voucher or eGC according to the guide.

Officeworks online won't process any Ultimate.

  • @WookieMonster You seem very knowledgeable about gift cards, so could you help me out please.

    • The Ultimate site says the physical gift cards work "the same as a Visa debit card". I've heard stories of people losing money buying gift cards that look pristine but have been tampered with. Are the Ultimate cards vulnerable to this?

    • I want to buy these for an IKEA purchase. How often does Ultimate dump certain retailers? There seems to be a lot of
"[retailer x] no longer accepts Ultimate gift cards" on the site. Is it unwise to hoard these gift cards? Should they only be bought just before you're ready to use them?

    • I take it that it's ok to buy a $50 Ultimate Home or Ultimate Everyone card even if the card itself doesn't have the IKEA logo on it as long as the Ultimate site lists IKEA as a retailer for that card. (I was in Coles today & some of the Ultimate Home cards didn't have the IKEA logo but some did. It looks as if some of the cards were printed in 2022 & some in 2023, so that may account for the difference if IKEA is newish to the card)

    Thanks!

The Ultimate site says the physical gift cards work "the same as a Visa debit card". I've heard stories of people losing money buying gift cards that look pristine but have been tampered with. Are the Ultimate cards vulnerable to this?

I am only aware of three instances of fraudulent transactions on Ultimate gift cards:

The main reasons Ultimate gift cards are not as vulnerable to fraudulent as other types of prepaid Visa gift cards are:

      • There are very few participating retailers you can actually redeem Ultimate gift cards via an online, which severely limits the sorts of fraudulent transactions you can do.
      • If someone is guessing-and-checking card combinations, they need a way have to "test" whether the combination they have guessed is for an active Ultimate gift card. Considering the fact that very few stores accept Ultimate gift cards online (and the Ultimate gift card exchange portal should have security on there to stop someone from using it to guess-and-check combinations), it probably is not as desirable of a target as other prepaid Visa gift cards.

Obviously, there is a non-zero chance of fraudulent transactions on Ultimate gift cards, but if I were you, I would honestly be much more worried if you had a Coles Mastercard gift card, Vanilla Mastercard gift card or Vanilla Visa gift card. Those three gift cards are notorious for fraudulent transactions, as they can be spent (almost) anywhere that accept prepaid Mastercard or Visa gift card, which makes them much easier to guess-and-check card combinations.

How often does Ultimate dump certain retailers? There seems to be a lot of "[retailer x] no longer accepts Ultimate gift cards" on the site. Is it unwise to hoard these gift cards? Should they only be bought just before you're ready to use them?

Participating retailers are far more frequently added than removed from the Ultimate gift card scheme. If you have a look at this FAQ I wrote, you can see all the participating retailers that stopped accepting some or all Ultimate gift cards since the Visa version was launched in late 2021.

I take it that it's ok to buy a $50 Ultimate Home or Ultimate Everyone card even if the card itself doesn't have the IKEA logo on it as long as the Ultimate site lists IKEA as a retailer for that card. (I was in Coles today & some of the Ultimate Home cards didn't have the IKEA logo but some did. It looks as if some of the cards were printed in 2022 & some in 2023, so that may account for the difference if IKEA is newish to the card)

Correct. IKEA was added as a participating retailer for the Ultimate gift card scheme in late July 2023, and only started appearing on the packaging of physical Ultimate gift cards manufactured from May 2023 onwards.

Remember, the Ultimate gift card website is the source of truth for participating retailers, because that is what the Ultimate gift card terms and conditions (clause 1, to be specific) says.

Additionally, newer Ultimate gift cards even say on the back of the packaging Notwithstanding a logo appearing on the card, the merchant may not be available. In other words, even though you may see a logo of IKEA on the gift card packaging, you always need to check the Ultimate gift card website to see whether the type of Ultimate gift card you want to get (or have) still lists IKEA as a participating retailer.

I want to buy these for an IKEA purchase.

If you want to use Ultimate gift cards at IKEA, you need to be mindful of a few things:

  • +2

    Thanks @WookieMonster. That's very helpful!

I may exchange the Ultimate gift cards for IKEA gift cards to guard against IKEA being dropped as a participating retailer. I live 10 mins from an IKEA so even if IKEA gift cards can't be used online (presumably they can though), I'll be fine.

If the Ultimate cards have an area that needs to be scratched off to be accessed, it's confusing to think they could have been compromised before they were bought. Perhaps I will open up the packet at checkout to ensure the cards haven't been scratched off & then hope for the best.

Re the list of retailers that accept Ultimate gift cards, I wish Ultimate had a simple list like in the tables on OzBargain. I finally figured out I had to click on the IKEA logo on the Ultimate site & then it would show the cards that included IKEA.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Looks good as I can use them and redeem at EB Games for Steam games as Steam sale is still on.

P.S, this makes next weeks Woolies Gift Card Offer much more appealing

Are you saying this isn’t a good deal?

A couple years ago I got 2000 Woolies Points with each $50 card so 20% off. I could really use that now.

  • Can i use multiple gift cards on Anacconda Website, in one transaction?

    • @WookieMonster

      • +2

I have never shopped at Anaconda online, so I have no personal experience myself.

However, someone once said they were able to redeem 3x Anaconda gift cards in one online transaction.
