Either, second hand phy discs end up cheaper if you look around (FB Marketplace/Gumtree).
At this point, they could at least chuck in a game or two, or another controller or something, since this is still 40 odd bucks more than you could buy them new for 5 goddamn years ago.

It's pretty easy to replace the 500giger with a 2tb or ssd so dont let it hold you back.
The PS way of upgrading it BS. Will need first first back up and then restore with an additional ext USB device.

I have an original gen PS4 which took me ages to firmware update multiple times from V6 or so when I dusted it off a month ago. Only play Minecraft with the kids. Is the new Slim any better? Minecraft lags frequently when playing local 3 players.
Won't fix your lagging issue. PS4 slim didn't really get any performance updates, just runs better/slimmer less power draw etc. You'd need a PS4 Pro/even a PS5 to see better performance.
I wouldn't bother going for this.
That being said, if your PS4 has an original hard drive in it still, an SSD may help with SOME lag/stutters, if they're somehow limited by the hard drive. Best to research this to check though before you drop 50-100 bucks on a sata SSD replacement

Ended up getting one of these. The Elizabeth store in SA reckons they had 11 left. Stopped at a couple of cashies stores on the way home and picked up a dozen games averaging under $4 a game. Now to find some time to play the damn thing.
