Just bought one of these. It's a "Deal of the Day". Apparently only 30 available. Ends mid day 26 November or while stocks last.

Wife took over my nexus 7 and left me with ipad 1 :(((

  • we need the 3g one on special from an Australian retailer

Nothing Australian about DWI though. They are Hong Kong based company with an Australian shell.

      • i thought you cant get a .com.au without having some presence in aus?

        • Not really. You just need an ABN, ACN, a Business Number or Trade Mark number. For example Wiggle.com.au went for the Trade Mark route — all their business is still conducted in UK.

DWIDigitalCameras.com.au — registered by "Trudark Pty Limited", which is a company registered in 2000 but still has not registered for GST. Sounds like a shell company to me, which cost a few hundred dollars to set up and a few hundred a year to maintain, but then you can keep your operations overseas.

    nothing special- cheaper elsewhere

Dwi… Please do a search here and online before posting. (especially with these limited quantity "deals")

Especially when it's cheaper elsewhere why even bother?

Agreed. Bought go pro hero 2 last time from group buy. Took more than 2 weeks to get the item. And they didn't use FedEx anymore, they use toll global which I think takes longer for delivery. (FedEx did overnight before) toll global takes 3 days

Not to mention their incredibly awful customer service, horrendous warranty returns process, and dodgy business practices by demanding random customers pay by bank deposit rather than credit card or anything that has financial protection for the customer.

    • Agreed

  • Bought a Sony TX10 camera through DWI a year or so ago and was very happy with that. They did write back to say they didn't have my chosen colour in stock and I could either wait or choose another colour which I did. Slightly dodgy I suppose but didn't bother me.

I haven't had to deal with their warranty process though. Re postage - don't mind waiting for it - in no rush - so was happy to choose normal free delivery - otherwise could have chosen to pay for faster delivery. Paid via Paypal - the 'pay on delivery option' so I reckon that should give protection against any dodgyness. Nothing to stop users looking up reviews of the retailer and making their own decision about whether to buy or not. So I don't see a need to neg to discourage posting of deals from DWI.

If they write back to say there isn't stock I suppose I'll just try to cancel via Paypal.

Based on the B&H thread it looks like their one comes with a US power adapter, whereas this one should be Aussie. (My Sony camera was).

BTW - I know B&H too and do like them. Have bought lots of SLR camera equipment from them in the past and have been to their NYC store - quite an amazing place.

  • I got the 16Gb Nexus 7 last time DWI had a similar deal (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83699). I ordered Friday before noon and received the Nexus 7 the following Monday morning via DHL. I might have just been lucky but they could also be getting better. Although, I have to admit that I was a bit nervous after reading the feedback and comments about DWI.

  • Just wait until you need to contact them for any reason after the money exchanges hands…

Haven't heard of anyone claiming successful warranty from them but lots of horror stories instead.

  • Just to update. DWI emailed a couple of days ago saying they were out of stock and it was on backorder but that I could cancel. I managed to get it for $277 from JB HiFi Strand Arcade in Sydney today (I just said will they price match $265 and they said $277 was their best price), so I emailed DWI and updated my order to say I wanted to cancel. A few minutes later I received confirmation from them and Paypal of the cancellation.
