nbn 1000/50 $99/Month Ongoing (FTTP and HFC Only) @ Buddy Telco (Aussie Broadband)

1834

Aussie Broadband has a new cheaper sub brand called Buddy Telco.

nbn 1000/50 $89/Month for 3 Months $99/Month Ongoing (FTTP and HFC Only).

IPv4 with CG-NAT and a static IPv6 /48 block.

CG-NAT works fine for most users. CG-NAT can break remote access to some home security cameras, some home automation products, Plex server, NAS, servers or if you want to host online P2P games. If your home security cameras and automation products use a cloud server you will not be affected by CG-NAT.

Update: Static IP for IPv4 can be added for an extra $5/month (was $10/month). You can do this from the Buddy Telco portal.

Buddy Telco are using a chatbot and live chat support.

Our Perth-based live chat team is available Monday to Friday, 12pm–8pm (AEDT). If you need help outside of these hours, our customer service chatbot offers a range of self-serve options.

A ‘new customer’ is defined as an individual who has not had an active broadband service with Buddy Telco in the last six months or hasn’t been an authorised contact, residing at the same address as the primary contact, on an active broadband service with Buddy Telco in the last six months.

Terms and Conditions.

  • i heard in the portal check whirlpool

  • my leaptel 99 a month is ending soon, which should i go with? ii dont wana pay more than 99 a month for 1000mbps speed. i dont care about any other extra stuff, this, superloop or exetel

    • You might be able to ask Leaptel if they can continue your offer with them. Just give them a call.

      • i logged in to the portal and asked they said best they can do is 109 which is the offet they emailed me anyway. sad now ill have to look into superloop as my only option left really.. and see if they are willing to keep me on the 99 after 6 months, ive heard people had success remaining on the 99 offer after the 6 months idk if its still common occurrence

        • Why not try Buddy then? If you no like it you can churn to Superloop. Beauty of ABB/Buddy you can churn and get the rest of your days prorated. Unlike Superloop, which is a PITA to change if you want to.

          • @chickendog: reason is i hate not being able to turn of cg nat, it causes alot of issues and bans on sites, for example my ip got banned on carsales, when i visit the site it says your ip is banned due to the unusually high traffic coming from your IP, same thing happened on facebook. cgnat hares your ip with other people (simplified way of explaining it just so i can get my point across) after i turned off the cg nat inside leaptel portal now those sites are working again. until buddy gives the option to turn off cg nat superloop is the best value overall, il be swapping after my leaptel 99 plan finishes on 15th nov. oh also forgot to mention buddy gurantees only 600mbps night speeds while superloop is more like 800-850mbps so faster speeds, same as leptel, the only reason i want to swap away from leaptel is i get alot of emails every few days about maintenance in the area, interrupted service, its like non stop for the 12months that ive been with them

            • @Roe Jogan: Fair enough about CGNAT.
The AussieBB Typical Evening Speeds (TES) doesn't make sense to me tbh, I and many other repeatedly get good speeds at all times of the day but I guess if they're not willing to back that it says something I suppose.
And yeah fair about maintenance. Leaptel has lots of work to do to get proper redundancy in place.

            • @Roe Jogan: Buddy can give you a static IP address for $10/m to disable CG-NAT. 600Mbps is the average typical evening speed however you can get around 950Mbps during that time.

nbn and ISPs do maintenance all the time. Leaptel forward you the details and some providers don't bother. You should be able to turn off the emails in the Leaptel portal.

              • @Twix: but then its no difference to superloop in price and features, why would one choose buddy over superloop after adding a static ip its the same price, minus the non existant support with buddy where with superloop you atleast get the phone support if u ever need it

  • signed up yesterday at 10.00 am - got the welcome email and text - then nada. had a look this morning and yes transfer to Buddy happened overnight but no message or text - only a thanks for leaving email from ABB. Speed on 5g is fine 600 or so and upload is 40 plus. Non 5g is atrociously low - under 100 so will need to contact Chat Support this morning and see why that is so slow…guessing router might need diff config to ABB where it was running at 260.

    • sounds like it is throttled to 600mb instead of the usual 850-900 wired or like 700-750 wireless

    • +3

Buddy can't help you with your slow 2.4GHz Wi-Fi speeds. Under 100Mbps for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is normal. There is nothing to change on your router config.

  • I used them during their initial 3 months promotion, pretty good service imo

  • my arlo camera base requires port forwarding. Does no opt out have impact on this? many thx

    • Yes, unless they offer IPv6 connectivity.

  • Can someone put it into simply terms for dumb people like me

I have ABB 100/20 atm and if I changed to Buddy 100/20 for a saving of $30 what am I sacrificing

I game a lot consoles and also use Philips HUE lights when I’m away etc and also will be getting Arlo etc Secrutiy cameras in future

I’ve been with ABB since 2015 when I first could get NBN and it’s disappointing they don’t look after local long serving customers with better deals

    • Primarily it's the phone based customer service.

Not sure how the Arlo security systems work. If you need to access your network directly, then you'll need a static IP. If it's on their own cloud network, then you'll be fine.

      • Haven’t used the customer service much since 2015

        • Can always try it for a month and switch back if it breaks something. I also switched from ABB -> Buddy because no longer needed the Static IP and CG-NAT doesn't affect my use cases.

Heck, the $5 a month can be put towards a game server anyway if you need that.

  • Well, this plan will compete with TPG with their 800/40 FTTP plan for $105 p.m. I am on that plan and it works well for me (typical speeds are -950), but it's still nice to see some competition in this range.

  • I'm on ABB for so long I can't even remember when i signed up. I'm paying $89 for 50/20 HFC plan and $5 static ip.
I think its time to move.

    • +1

$89/m is too much for 50/20.

Get 100/20 or 250/25 with Leaptel or Superloop and you can turn off CG-NAT for $0. Static IP with Leaptel is $10/m and Superloop is $5/m.

  • Superloop offers 1000/50 for $99/m (6 months) with no CG-NAT. Not sure this is really a deal.

    • The deal was initially $89 for 3 months and $99/m ongoing. It's a good deal since CG-NAT doesn't affect most users. Superloop is good if you need to get off CG-NAT.

I didn't ask to repost this. Someone else did.

      • Not to mention ABB network is far more reliable than Superloop (from what I've heard and experienced)

        • Both Aussie BB and Superloop are equally reliable for me.

      • For a normal work from home corporate user cg-nat won't cause any issues?

    • Buddy was a rock solid connection for me but forced to churn to Leaptel as they offerred CGNAT optout or static ip. Leaptel is currently performing almost as good as Buddy but I'll churn back to Buddy in a heartbeat if it started offering CGNAT optopt or static ip. Best provider I've found so far that works with my setup. Superloop used to he good but regular outages just put me off.

1/10 for naming. Could have been a bit more original than calling it Buddy, and copying the Mate vibe.

  • Have been with Buddy for several months now. The speed is as good as ABB in peak and off peak. Never had an outage, never needed support.

I've been using the NBN for as long as I can remember with many ISP's, I've probably never needed to call support for real help. The only time I picked up the phone was calling TPG, blasting their $hitty billing system and their BD 30 disconnection notice.

    I recommend them Buddy.

I'm with Buddy Telco, love the speeds at reasonable price! I used to look at 100GB downloads like well looks like I'm leaving my computer on for a few days, now it's done in 1 hour or less, only restricted by speed of where downloading from.

To get around the CG-NAT I setup Tailscale on my NAS & Home Assistant. My cameras still work in native app though.

Calling buddy telco Aussie broadband in the title is misleading

  • nbn 100/20 $73/Month, nbn 50/20 $63/Month, nbn 25/10 $53/Month for 6 Months

New customers only, use code BUDDY25
    Ends 18/5

    • Post it as a new deal.

  • Any experience with Strata blocks (6 units in Brighton Le Sands 2216). The FTTN box is on the edge of our garden, but LNP disaster locked us to inferior tech Mess :( faster than other FTTP but unreliable, even with iiNet).

    • +1

Most likely $275 for each unit. All units must pay and get approval from the strata or owner. nbn covers the rest of the cost.

The strata or owner can apply here and a technician will come do a $0 quote for FTTP.

  • Signed up over the weekend from iinet business, so gone from all the support, to virtually none, considering i've rang them (iinet) like 5 times in 14 years that should be ok, 5 bux a month cheaper, 10 times faster.

so good so far.. have had a few pauses when watching movies over wifi, so will be interesting to see now that I've plugged the voda TV in to a wired connection if this still happens.

How is this "repost" a bargain?…..its the standard everyday price. The comments are aged and full of information that is not correct now.

For the record as of 14 July 25, you can pay $5 per month for a Static IP to opt out of CG-NAT if needed.

    • +3

I didn't ask for this to be re-posted.

I added the Static IP $5/m to the description in March.

      • Yes you did (amend it), I missed that line, was busy scanning the comments hoping for info on the upcoming speed tier changes.

I was "that guy" and got burnt.

        • What do you want to know about the speed tier changes? Do you have FTTP?

Leaptel is also offering same and they are upgrading the speed from end of September.

    https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-speed-upgrades-are-coming-heres-w…

    • +2

Leaptel is $99/m for 12 months ($114/m ongoing).

      Buddy Telco is $99/m ongoing.

Most providers will have the new speeds.

    • yep, might need to change to them in September… I'm sure buddy would have to follow suit.

At the end of the day though, I doubt doubling the speed will have that much real life impact… I cant imagine many services/hardware will be able to provide over 100MB/s anyways… add to that most switches, networking equipment and NICs are only gigabit anyways. (my PFsense server is connected to a 1gb nic, so would have to get a new home server to take advantage of the higher speeds - and even then, if the PC is only running GB NICs..)

I would say most of the benefit will be multi device usage, IE i can download a linux distro while a couple of TVs watch 4/8K content. Realistically though, at even 1gbps a 4GB DVD downloads in 28 seconds… so a decent size game should be done in a few minutes… its really not going to interrupt the streams that much.

also 1gbps+ switches are pretty expensive and loud. - so the good news is that if these are needed, they become mainstream, this could reduce price and hopefully improve design…

I will be interested to see though if it affects over all network back end… eg, shudder in videos as more people use the available ISP network back haul.

      • I have 1gbps at home currently and the vast majority of services will cap you at 300mbps download. I upgraded my home network to 2gbps using cheap switches from AliExpress and replaced my router with a mini PC running OPNsense.

Epic games store & Microsoft store are pretty good usually get 700mbps+ from them. Steam you get around 250mbps for most downloads.

Mihoyo games like ZZZ, Genshin, Honkai Impact etc. will max the connection downloading patches. Warframe/Soulframe also max the connection out, 8gb patch in 2 minutes.

  • +1

Not sure but I have been paying this amount for 1000/50 at Superloop but prolly 12 months only so I gotta check now. Thanks OP.

  • If anyone is curious or wondering, Buddy has just confirmed (via email) the September speed upgrades.

    • No mention of a price increase?

$85 on-going for 500/50 (CG-NAT) is pretty competitive, but then again Exetel are doing the same for $80 I suppose.

      Looking forward to September already.

      • +1

        Email says they're free upgrades.
