      Wesfarmers. Desperation.

I don't know why they would be desperate since they are making more money than Woollies now.

      • Get rid of stock rather than keep it on the shelf.

Were willies desperate when they flogged off the kindle for $70…? Thought not

  • According to this it can do bitstream too.

  • Good deal. Is really testing my "boycott sony" resolve. :-(

Just curious, why boycott sony? Last i heard they are really struggling, cannot compete with apple. If it wasnt for their other technologies (and yeh they have alot) they probably wouldnt be in the phone market .anymore (look at ericsson now). If anything id boycott apple, they have a firm grasp on the consumer market

      • I've also actively boycotted Sony since the whole "root kit" fiasco on purchased CDs. I'm not prepared to support a company that pulls stunts like that.

And boycotting Apple just because they have a "firm grasp of the consumer market"? Seriously? Is this just tall poppy syndrome? Hate on them all you like, but at least have a decent reason for it.

        • Not tall poppy, just not conforming like sheep

But bah ozbargainers shouldn't buy apple, they are never a bargain if you think about it, when you can get a samsung for almost half the cost haha

        • Just like Newscorp had a decent reason for controlling half the worlds media. Its rarely a good thing for 1 company to have so much power of influence over you.

  • Can u connect panasonic speakers to this

  • Can it be bluray region unlocked?

    • Highly unlikely Sony locks there blu side down hard
Edit - Googling shows a couple methods to unlock the DVD side using the All 4 one remote or Harmony remote but nothing on unlocking blurays

    • I doubt Sony would make unlocking easy…

    • +2

To a large extent you don't need to. We're the same blu-ray region as the UK, and a large number of US blu-rays aren't region-locked.

Use ING Orange paywave if you have it for a further 5% rebate

Cant see this in the WA catalog… not sure what state or if I can get a local JB or DSE to price match.

Grays online has it for 49$ + 9.95$ shipping

    • +4

It's a refurb and doesn't come with The Avengers.

  • +1

would be even better if it support Divx :(

  • +1

also available as a refurbished item for $58.95 delivered without the BD at grays:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86403

    • Unless you've already got the Avengers already, it would be silly to go with the Grays option given that the Avengers BD by itself is currently worth at least $30.

Heck, you could just buy this bundle from Coles and give the Avengers BD disc to someone as a gift and it would still work out to be a better option than going with Grays IMO.

  • I presume this wouldn't handle Blu Ray 3D discs?

    • Doesn't that depend on your TV?

      • No, 3D BD uses a different codec. My understanding is that most regular BD players should be able to play 3D BD discs in 2D, depending on the firmware of the player and also whether 2D playback has been locked out on the disc itself.

    • No 3D support according to Choice.

  • Does it do DLNA and ABC Iview?

    • According to the user reviews on Sonys site you can access catchup Tv like iview etc, those reviews also seem to indicate that its already dvd region free
      Manual

    • No DLNA, only the catchup type services.

Note, it also appears that later versions of the firmware are infected with cinavia as well (its sony, so this is no surprise).

It has been $79 since 14/11/12 when I reported it in your previous $99 post.

  • I'm interested in the PendoPad 7" tablet. Anyone got one? Opinions?

    • Don't have one, but the specs are here: http://shop.pendo.com.au/index.php/pendo-pad-4-0-multi-touch…

Only a single core Cortex A8. You'd be better off going with an Ainol TBH. Similar price but better spec'd.

      • All the deals here for the Ainol have expired. Anywhere you know of that still has em for around $105? I really didn't want to go over $100 as this is just a backup device for my Mum to use.

  • +3

Buy Ainol crystal around the same price dual core and higher resolution.

    • +1

Good luck finding stock for that. It's all gone.

  • Does anyone know if this can play mkv files? im assuming that avis and the other common types would work off the usb, but want to know if hd mkvs can played off usb too. This would make it an instant purchase for me. Thanks.

    http://www.sony.com.au/product/bdp-s185 (doesnt say)

    • +3

Just purchased one from my local coles. Can confirm that it played MKVs, and all the other common type of video formats off the USB with working subtitles. Produces great quality picture on my 10 year old 720p Pioneer Plasma 50"

      Very happy.

  • Anyone managed to get this in WA?

  • With regard to ABC iView, be aware that you only get a "Reader's Digest" version of iView on these Blu-ray players, or, at least certainly on my Sony BDP-S580, anyway. I called Sony when I couldn't get every back-program that was available on iView thru my PC. Sony said that it's not their fault, only a "cut down" version of iView is made available by the ABC to certain devices e.g. Blu-ray players. Kinda takes the shine off my new BDP-S580!!!!

    • Interesting… IView ain't iView.

  • picked one up at Coles last night.
    Looks good!

  • Anyone been able to get this in NSW?

  • Is there a hdmi cable in the box?

    • If not, there's bound to be a special on HDMI cables around here.
