Free Coffee from Harvey Norman

930

Possibly the only reason why you might go into a HN store. Enjoy your coffee whilst walking around the shop and laughing at some of the ridiculous prices that some Australians actually pay.

    +1 for the informative post…

    • +2

I wouldn't drink coffee.. still +1 for the well said comment :)

I dont get how this is worthwhile, whenever the representatives for nespresso or map are in store at my local Auburn good guys they offer you a cup of coffee as a demonstration of the machine anyway.

    • +2

Hardly worth a neg. it's a freebie. I guess part of this deal is there will be a coffee rep from store open to close. Not just a few hours…

Bought a laptop 3 years ago. Very bad customer service. Never come back since. I will never ever shop at HN

    • +1

just this week i read in the news they were fined by the accc >1 mill (thousands of complaints) for misleading people saying they are above the law they dont have to refund people because the law doesnt apply to them and charging people for $80 fees to put a product in for a warranty claim. your not wrong they do have the worst customer service i have walked out of the store 4 times because of it and their warranty support is ridiculous and everyone who has shopped there recognizes this is typical behavior from them. i have personally several times had warranty problems exactly like that, i got a gps that didnt work: it had sound but the map would not come up on the screen and they tried to charge me a fee to put it in warranty, they fixed it and tried to tell me nothing was wrong to begin with and tried to charge me more than it was worth, they gave up when i started screaming guess they dont like customers being disturbed while they try to scam them. and they dont want to honour warranties for computers or anything especially their scam extended warranties - which they shorten the manufacturers warranty to sell you 'extra cover'. i was told bs from a salesperson and afterwards they recognized that was the case and apologized but still wouldnt refund me. never had to take them as far as the tribunal though because they back down when you start yelling in their store. its good to lodge a tribunal claim if they do wrong by you because if they are stupid enough you can waste alot of their time with they cant claim back even if you lose.

      • -2

Seriously man you are not even close to correct with that.

the ACCC have taken action against 11 Harvey Norman franchises. IF found guilty they will face fines of 1.1 mil. The thousands of complaints for refunds/returns were across all retailers, not the stores being taken to court.

  • Really? Are we classifying this as a genuine bargain? No stores listed or hours when you might get said 'bargain'. Common!

[EDIT] - Okay the OP missed the FB details:

    Expires tomorrow
Available in stores, this weekend only. Terms apply, see participating stores for details.

After much research and Ozbargaining the crap out of it, I actually bought a new tv a few months ago from HN because it was by far the best deal. Also got much better service than other retailers too. Just sayin.

    • +4

I wouldn't write them off for certain things, especially the type of item you wouldn't import such as a TV, fridge, washing machine or whatever. There is an awful lot that is over priced there, but they have good deals from time to time and you can always try cut a deal with salesperson, as you can at other relative exy places like Myers etc.

  • +6

this is ok if you're picking up the $297 TCL FHD 40" at the same time

  • +11

    +1, for sense of humour.

    • +1

      +1

      • +3

        theres a button for that

  • +11

I think HN are okay if you do your research and get them to price match. Plus they are doing a FREE santa photo at the moment which is great for their grans

  • +3

Cant wait to see Harvey Norman collapse. Clueless staff and do not deliver items or respond to emails but quite happy to debit your account anyway, thieves!

    • +6

      HN will outlast us all

they sell enough whitegoods and furniture and the occasional flexirent to deadshit morons to survive

Harvey crys poor but you can bet he'll still be standing when the coal mines are all gone

    • +4

They wont, at least not for a long time. They are the go to place for grey haired people nationwide.

    • +2

With a collapse, comes thousands of jobs gone. People don't think about that when expressing hatred to a company. I bought a lot of things from Harvey Norman, but I negotiated prices every time. Always come out infront.

Care to explain your situation with Harvey Norman in detail?

      • +2

Actually there are sometimes good bargains to be had. I remember collecting a brand new Samsung USB Blu-Ray/DVD Player for $67 at the start of the year.

  • +1

I'm gonna be whinging like Gerry Harvey if this deal makes the front page.

    • +5

      You whinging yet?

  • Gerry, you are absolutely a total failure, staff there are just hopeless and whenever I asked for a price match they will use all kind of nonsense reason to reject me, I want to keep u guys in business but you don't to, you'd better fold up soon and we can spend our cash elsewhere for better price and service

    • +3

Why should they fold up. Just don't shop there. Seriously it's not that hard!!!!

Hard to see Gerry the. Failure too. Bet his bank account is better than yours.

Sometimes a price match is just not possible. They would not match a price on a 64" tv for me last year, but I accepted that, moved on. They are not there to lose money.

      • couldn't have put that together any better, Berger.

      • That's true berger.
But sometimes I feel the staff is way too arrogant and gives shit reason for a price match. No body wants to loose their dignity if they want a better price. Even if you dont buy the product, customer should not feel offended.
For an instance after buying a laptop, they almost force you to buy anti-virus or extended warranty. They have least knowledge about the product and will never check the stock for you. You will have to search for the item yourself, if it has a special price, because if you ask a staff member most of them say it is sold. If you find it in the same store, they will not be sorry.

I am refused multiple times for a price match from JBhifi or Dicksmith, but their staff are much better in explaining or at least saying, they cannot do that.

Once I asked HN staff to see her manager and she straightly said, he is not free to see every single customer…

That said, there will still be some good members left who are trying their best to get some sales and giving good services to the customers.

        • +2

JB and DSE pricematch should be easy as long as you are talking about the exact same item, no interest free terms ect.

          http://www.harveynorman.com.au/customer-service/best-price-g…

If you have an issue with someone saying they will not match, tell them you will call head office and ask them. Chances are that will be enough to get them to do it.

I had a girl at the register refuse to do a product HN had online for the same price. I pointed out it was stupid for me to go home, put in the order then drive back to pick it up. Called head office from the car park, they called the franchisee who came out and apologised and put the product through for me. In the end it was pretty good service with the exception of the checkout girl.

FYI Head office number is 02 9201 6111. Franchisees do not want complaints against them at head office, it goes against their rating as a franchisee.

EDIT: Staff avoiding a pricematch is probably not a choice of the store but that staff member. Often the price matches are under cost. Say the pricematch is $200 under cost on a laptop that is actually $20 out of the stafmembers pocket at the end of the week. (note the "cost" at the store is 16% higher than actual cost so $200 under cost would be pretty easy on an expensive item.) You can see why some staff will avoid doing a pricematch. If their franchisee found out they would be in trouble though.

        • One time I bought a flight stick from and the guy was asking me if I wanted to price match a over store.

But that was ruined when the stick never came in(I ordered it in). The HN store 3 Km away had the same stick!

    • +2

      Yeah, Gerry'll read that.

  • +6

Personally I don't hate going there because of the price, because they will price match. But their customer service is atrocious. Only 2nd worst to Dick Smith's staff.

The nespresso pods are only 50c each anyway..

    • +3

where are the nespresso pods 50 cents, please tell

  • +6

So much angst over a cup of coffee

    • +8

Probably because it is a salty cup of coffee since Gerry has been whinging so much.

  • +2

no one saw the Ipod Touch, Apple TV offer??

  • +2

    does it include milk ?

  • -5

You can get free cups of water at Mcdonalds, Should i make a post guys?

    • +1

Why be silly.., not for the post you just made, but not knowing the fact any business is required to give you free water if you asked them. I think it's the law. You can do it at a nightclub, avoid paying the stupid price for water.

      • +21

knowing the fact any business is required to give you free water if you asked them.

that's not true… I just called Telstra and asked them… they hung up on me !!! :O

        • +1

          No need to be silly.

        • +1

what law? often i come across people that say the 'its the law' but they never know what act because they never actually read it and just spread hear say. i know it to be fact after studing for rsa that if you serve alcohol you have to provide free water but that does not mean mcdonalds or any other business is required too, the rsa teacher actually stated that mcdonalds was not required by law - in saying that i am not going to take that as the gospel considering i did not specifically read a law that said that nor have i read all the acts to find to confirm. and fyi mcdonalds near me makes you buy something or they wont give you water total stinges. asking jv not to be silly is just well …. silly. hes our ozzie silly sausage :)

    • -4

only if we can enjoy it while walking around the store laughing at fatties

    • +4

Usually free and HN never go together in a sentence so this was quite a worthwhile offer.

  • +4

"Enjoy your coffee whilst walking around the shop and laughing at some of the ridiculous prices that some Australians actually pay."

You summed up my day today looking at (but not buying) properties.

  • +2

+1 for the description on that one. Looked at some flooring options at HN and the guy was showing us the processes of making the bamboo flooring. We asked if it was ethical and he basically shrugged it off and told us what a great price he could do for us. He told us that they HAVE to use cheap labour and to employ Australians would be a rip off. Then he showed us a picture of a Panda. Thanks Gerry!

    • +7

Ethical? Do you own any merbau timber decking, fencing? If you stick with this principle, you'll never buy anything. Yes, bamboo flooring is now being mass produced in China, which is a good reason why it's so cheap. But, so is almost everything you buy these days, at least bamboo is a very easily replaced, fast growing resource. If you're concerned, buy an Australian hardwood..

  • +3

It's worth going there if you know an employee and can get things at cost price.

  • +2

I just got a sunbeam bm4500 bread maker for $80, and three weeks ago I bought the star wars limited edition Xbox for 345. Harvey Norman are actually doing okay by me this year.

  • +1

I've bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff there all very cheap. That ipod touch deal is also good if you want the 32gb version.

  • +1

I had a free Nespresso hot chocolate at HN a few weeks back. Purchased a few cheapie items that night as well: 2x $5 10" netbook sleeves, $9 hair clipper set, and Assassin's Creed Revelations with Norton Back Up on PC for $5.01.

  • -2

I cannot bleave people pay that. I was at dicksmith next door people used to walk our want 500 off tv like guy next door did. if u want see 500 of your tv go next door then come back look at our tecket price will still be lower.

    • Um what

    • Um what

    • Um what

      • Um what

        • +2

From what I'm gathering it appears that not many people understand the comment above. :P

    • I cannot believe people pay the prices Harvey Norman charges. In the Dick Smith next door the ticket price of the TV was still lower than the 'special price' of $500 off at HN.*

      • cheers for the interpretation
