Not sure what this is about but Turkish Airlines have at least one date working over the Christmas period to cities all over Europe. These are around $1000 less than the next best fares at that time. More dates in January to April for the same price or less, too.

30kg checked bags included. Most routes have 2 stops - Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul.

I haven't added links to every city, but just change the Copenhagen search to be wherever you're interested in.

booked a trip to turkey and Greece with them today- was about half the price of other airlines. hope they're ok

    • Haven't flown them myself but they're meant to be good!

seat selection prices are a complete rip-off! about $90 extra for a standard seat!!! wtf???

        • Second that. Just paid $250 for selecting seats

          • +12

@dosada: You know you still get a seat on the plan if you don't pay to select seats?

            • +1

@matt_will_fix_it: so how do you make sure a family of 5 sits together (young kids)?

              • +2

@derdew: They wont make the kids sit by themselves :P

I dont pick seats on Jetstar and they always seat us (family of 5) together.

                • +3

@xsacha: I’m always hoping they would put my kids with someone else for long flights 🤣

but they're meant to be good!

A few people have said they are 'a delight' to fly with.

        Only works with a vpn

    • They are one of the best tbh

      • -3

Is that just based on your personal experience?

    • +1

I flew them LGW-IST-SIN last week. They were very good, especially on LGW-IST where I got a proper meal even though most airlines would only give you a 'snack' on a flight within Europe.
The long haul flight was good as well and Istanbul airport is very slick and new. Only downside was, as others have mentioned, they charge for any seat selection. The seats I was allocated by online check in were fine, but if they weren't you can see what the random selection is during online check in, then decide to pay to select.

Interesting - just saw this video on Nine News about Turkish Airlines
    https://youtu.be/b_xCWzO8v04?si=UumpCRTCVSdofDl9

    • That is interesting! I knew about the Singapore and Istanbul fights but was surprised to see flights on Turkish to almost every single other European city. Bring on the competition :)

    return Tbilisi (TBS) $1775

    Needem for Perth

    • Turkish only flying from Sydney & Melbourne so far

    • Turkish Airlines does not have any major agreements in relation to transcon arrangements with VA or QF.

    • +2

Haven’t checked but perhaps you could try routes from KUL > IST > [insert European city]
and look separately for AirAsiaX flights or similar (or redemptions on QF or MH) form Australia to KUL.

I recently flew AirAsiaX from KUL > SYD and I think it was less than $200, and very comfortable. Even came with entertainment. Food purchased separately.

It's Constantinople and Hagia Sophia is a Church and not a mosque.

      • +1

        Not sure eject the negs

I'm in turkiye today and it was built at a church, then the turk invasion ~500 years ago they painted over the Christian artefacts turning it into a mosque.
Technically it was a church but today's reality It is a mosque

After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, it served as a mosque until 1935, when it became a museum. In 2020, the site once again became a mosque

All the bald men of Sydney assemble at the airport

    • Treating myself to plugs for Christmas

  • Which of the cities would cost relatively the cheapest for accommodation during xmas period?

    • Just as a general thing, Greece, southern Italy (Naples, Palermo), Budapest, Istanbul I'd say are the cheaper cities in that list. Not sure about over Xmas though

      • Thanks for that list. Gives me something to check. Those 2 layovers are going to be brutal though.

      • You got me interested in Palermo. Should I get a return flight into and out of Palermo, or is it better to leave from another city? Thanks.

Edit: Whelp! Prices jumped by $300!

        • Maybe try a different city!

  • +5

Good Pickup on these fares ..especially around Christmas
Business Class is Pretty Good Value too !
Just over $7,000.00 to most destinations around Europe and booking directly with Turkish Airlines.
It's good to have more competition to Europe and also have another Aussie destination to choose from.
    Well Done !

    • It’s a 2 stop flight past Istanbul for now, most people flying for work in business wouldn’t take a 2 stop option to London . Good for tourists maybe

  • Turkish Airlines used to be the best in Europe many years in a row. I flew a couple of times with them from SG or KL to Istanbul. Wish they were operating out of Brisbane too.

Some coding error. By default the From city is set to Sydney, Canada
I was just browsing but if I was serious I would have booked a ticket from YQY airport instead of Sydney. Only noticed it when the pricing options after USD were shown in CAD instead of AUD

    • Their website always defaults to CAD for me regardless of where though. I'm not sure why…

      • +1

Because there is a Sydney airport in Canada and my guess is their code gets the location for anyone in vicinity of Sydney AU as Sydney and then their City lookup for today doesn't have Sydney AU in the list , so it matches Sydney Canada as Australian's location showing stuff specific for Canadians.. my guess

  • +1

I dunno, I flew them recently and as soon as the breakfast dinner service is complete they dim the cabin and you don't see the flight attendants for hours…

    • they need their 'break'. in quotes because they seem to kind of be on call during their breaks

  • +1

Ended up booking Madrid for about 1300 thanks.

  • +4

Turkish changed the flight time on a booking I have to Europe next year due to 'operational reasons' and charged me $50 for the ticket change. I got charged because they changed the flight time. Pretty ridiculous…

  • +3

Used to be a big fan of Turkish Airlines. Then one time, in their new fancy airport, I was met with such discrimination and xenophobia because my Australian passport said I wasn't born in Australia, you wouldn't believe. They were holding up the plane, they kept checking my australian passport (even though I passed 2 other airports before them fine), and kept insisting they see another passport or birth certificate and I refused because my australian passport is enough so they kept holding up the plane, it was crazy. Let's just say, no more Turkish for me, thanks, I'd rather pay more and fly Qantas or Singapore.

    • +2

What does it have to do with discrimination and xenophobia? I guess there was some other reason for them checking your docs.
I know quite a few people who visited Turkey or had a transit there who had an AU passport but were born elsewhere and none of them had any issues ever.

      • What other documents do I need to fly to Europe? Give me a valid reason they would not let me into the plane if I wouldn't show the lady at the gate "my other passport". Or tell me it's not valid even though it had 2 years left, or invent other excuses when asked what's the problem. And no, she wasn't new at this, and I've crossed many borders and dealt with many border police to know what's going on.

Here's another. Went to Ireland for 5 days, border guard was very curious about my place of birth and pulled me aside to interview because they wanted to check I had the money to stay there and would return back to Oz, what kind of job I had. Had everything booked flights, hotel, enough money, yet it was hard for them to believe. If my last name was Smith you think they would have any questions?

    • +2

Just out of curiosity, where were you born?

  • +2

Do not fly with Turkish Airlines. Worst customer service i have ever experienced. If your flights happen to get cancelled you will be left with hours and hours of trying to fix the issue ruining your trip and causing you great stress. Take this as a warning from very recent experience. Once they have your money, they do not care about you.

  • checked prices again today for what I booked yesterday- price has nearly doubled!! nice to get lucky for once

  • Can't find anything approaching these prices on the Turkish airlines website

  • Thanks OP. Booked flights including 3 day transit in Turkey…

  • It's strange that the price jumps from $1,456 for a single adult to $7,575 for a family of three (2 adults + 1 kid) on the same flight. This is a more than fivefold increase, both on Google Flights and Turkish Airlines.

    • +1

There are maybe only one cheap seat left, the 2 others one are more expensive. That's how airline booking works.

  • Thanks OP, ended up locking in pricing 14 days ago to give me time to plan and budget the trip, i'll be in iceland over NYE!

Does anyone know if the seats have power plug? i want to bring meta quest onboard cause the flight time is brutal haha
