Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $487 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard on JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2760

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

      Should be end of 18th

  • store in country VIC experience this morning:
    1. No price match - they even showed me the small print on the promo - no matter how i asked they refused. Bit frustrating, but nothing you can do, I can't go to the next metro store. (an experienced staff member of 13 years told me staff that have given price match discounts could get in trouble within their system).
    2. They weren't aware of the $300 bonus cashback, thanked me and were gonna use it as a sales tactic
    3. First $99 to be charged in two days time (Telstra billing cycles)
    4. Paying with vouchers was fine (thanks ozb classifieds for %10 off those)
    5. took a fair while to do all of this.
    6. Set up a new number, i'll use an esim in the phone before cancelling
    7. will sell the $300 voucher here for $270 coming back in.
    8. Receipt has original price less the vouchers (inc my own)

I'm not opening the phone until i know everything has worked after the cancellation, reserving the right to return it. i intend to use it and hand me down my flip 4 to mum. Thx to the ozb community for all the tips

Got the phone, and cancelled the plan yesterday, Telstra agent told they wont refund the 99$ - first Month payment. Tried my luck today, Telstra initiated the refund for $99. Thanks everyone !!

    (Also, price matched Telstra)

    • Which store?

      • JB Wollongong, but I did the cancellation and the refund request directly with Telstra

        • Via chat or call up?

          • +1

@XucCac: Cancellation, and refund via Telstra website chat

    • Geez that seemed to work out ok. They are meant to charge you the first $99 at the store to your nominated direct debit account.

Also you have been informed by the JB Store that the first payment for the Upfront mobile plan could not be refunded and we at JB HIFI Messaging is unable to process the refund of your first payment.

Keeping the phone? Nice not having a 2y contract over your head at least if you don't need that much data. I was going to get the P9 pro but may as well keep the s24 Ulta, still a good piece of kit as good or better than p9pXL.

      • +1

Even I was after P9Pxl but snapdragon over tensor any day!

JB did charge the 99$ payment which Tesltra agent while processing the cancellation denied refunding. But tried again today with Telstra, they initiated the refund.

        • -1

How did you ask today for the $99 payments refund?

I assume the $99 refund was separate from the cancellation yesterday. And how much did the agent say you had to pay for cancellation? Thanks

          • @whatta baaargain: Yes, the 99$ refund is separate from the cancellation, I've got an invoice of $766.59 as termination charges. Just asked the rep, if they can assist with refund as I cancelled the plan on the same day - He processed the refund with no questions asked. Though the rep who processed the cancellation yesterday told me that she cannot refund the plan payment made. Not sure why though!

    • Which store you priced matched? two stores have already rejected my requested. Thanks

    • Yes.. i think due to them looking up ur previous telstra account. And using that instead of ur id.
They ask u bring ur Passport yeh?

If they do search by name and ur licence it should work. Not by account.

      Happened to mexz

        • -1

lol. might look you up on interpol

    • Yeah that’s about right. They’ll likely refund you the $287 onto your credit/debit card, not in voucher form

    • Also let's say I don't want to go through the hassle of returning I can just sell the phone not sure if better thoughh isn't 25 Ultra out v soon

    • Lol don't think that's right.
      - you have to pay $99 in store for the new service (they ask do bank direct debit details on the spot).
      - you have to pay back $766.59 for cancelling the contract (which really should be 1700 same as the voucher discount but isn't in the critical information (says $800).
      - was never sure how people get a gift card for the full value of the phone as a refund if you didn't pay that much, guess it's the cost over 24m.
      - not sure who will pay close to retail price on gumtree when they can get this deal anyway.

      • The invoice shows full price, not sure why but probably to do with the deal being with the sim card provider.

        • They are the ones discounting the product not Jb hi fi themselves.

        • They get their money back by the customer using their plan and paying extra.

        • Most likely nobody pays this price gumtree so yes porbably easier to return phone

      • I wouldn't buy any of these S24 phones obtained from this dodgy deals on gumtree and ebay, too much baggage came with the phone, warranty claim would be a nightmare.
These are more for those who plan to keep the phones for their use.

        • Exactly mate, it's not a fun time getting bombarded with lowball offers either, no one on there would pay over $1,200 for it. Essentially no warranty as you say, unless you can claim with Samsung direct. Most people and youngsters would be getting expensive handsets on a plan anyway for very little upfront.

Even though I bought this is half a piss take I'll probably keep it instead of waiting for the 9 Pro (and sell or trade the 8). I don't really like how pixels are trying to be an apple and more expensive every year.

  • Checked 2 stores in sydney - both said its either price match or the $300 gift card.
1 was happy to price match Telstra 1 wasn't.

  • Just wondering, what does it say on the receipt, does it say the Phone Price and payment is via voucher and cash or does it also include a line item for $300 dollar gift card? Thanks!

    • No line item for $300 gift voucher

  • Anyone managed to get both the discount and the $300 gift card (with Telstra price match) in Adelaide? I visited Mile end and called Airport stores and they told me it is either GC or discount.

  • I managed to signed up with Telstra price match at the Elizabeth St store in Melbourne moments ago…make sure you asked for the price match first and get the acceptance before signing up.

I was served by the chap with the Irish accent as he's very aware of what's happening - also reiterated the ETC would be $800.

Don't forget to also claim the $300 GC bonus!! I initially forgot but returned 15mins later to claim…apparently the GC shows up on their system once claimed so not sure if they void this if you return the phone for a refund.

    • Lucky you. They changed the rules now. Not offering GC as of now

      • So it appears….

Upon checking their price matching policy, it does stipulate some exclusions including bonus and bundled promotions, coupon promotions…

  • Does anyone know if I'll have issues getting approved by Telstra on this deal? I have investment income but I'm not employed in a regular job. Good credit score otherwise.

    • I'm a lazy freelancer and don't take on regular work. I can't remember exact questions but they're something like:

      1. What's your living situation: owner, renter, etc.
      2. How long have you been living there?
      3. Work related questions — what you do, how long, income (I embellished :)
    • Dnt think they care
They didnt check anything when i signed up
Just id and an old job will do if they ask and where u live how long u been there
      Basic they dont fully check

  • -2

JB will do a credit check….employment history will be asked so YMMV…

    • +1

Lol, and your google search history too

  • Anyone else hear about the battery drain issues with the S24 Ultra?

    • +1

      ?
That happens with every phone if you use it, just search for the usual tweaks etc.

  • I went to store was shown that price must be ticketed price on the staffs terms and conditions.

  • +1

I got Telstra price matched and 300$ giftcard at Altona Vic store today. If anyone wanna try their luck there. The staff r quite friendly and helpful there as well

    • Can you please share the calculation?

  • I just purchased the phone and on the receipt, the phone price is shown as 2099 minus 1700 gift card.
For TRS, do they calculate it against 2099 or 399?

    • +1

AFAIK, for TRS, the calculation should be on the total amount wherein 10% GST is the part of total amount paid. If anything is GST-free as part of the transaction (not in this case), then the adjustment will be done accordingly.

    • +1

The GST on the receipt is the amount u getting when u claim TRS

    • you should get around $199 ish back. The duds at the airport dont care about what discount they provided you. The final GST on the docket is what counts

  • They're onto us! While cancelling my service the chat agent told me they're aware of this as they're getting a lot of cancellations 😂 Not sure if there's any truth to it, but she said they're actively working to prevent this.

    • How would they go about it?

      • -5

I was at the Bankistan store the manager with all the tattoos mentioned that they don't get a cent of commission now

    • +2

$1,700 in fines on what basis? CIS clearly states the maximum fees are $800.

      • -3

He was just salty his commission was cut and was probably trying to scare people

    • Well this is scaring me a bit - literally standing here at jb hi fi getting the last of the ultra 512gb ultraviolet at the Myaree store.

Btw, there are paper slips out now saying to get a $1200 gift card rather than a $1700 gc, however the website page for the phone still has the $1700 promo listed (and I saw the sales person called up a $1700 promo graphic on her PC). If you go into the mobile plan deals page on the website it has the $1200 promo listed.

No price matching allowed here unfortunately - sales person said that had been vetoed here after lots of customers had come in asking for price matching. I couldn't be bothered driving to another store to ask especially since stock levels are getting low and it seems to be pretty common that PM hasnt been allowed.

Just had to pay the $99 monthly fee upfront at the PC, and now waiting for the paperwork to go thru to get the phone…

Really hope I'm not going to get slogged with fines when I cancel. I'm assuming with the crackdown it'd be best to cancel ASAP?

      • Just don't buy it if you don't want it. Maybe not the best deal without all the extras.

        • Fair enough! This rigmarole wouldn't be worth it if I didn't already intend to upgrade my S10+ which is getting full and laggy (yes of course, I could have better space management/backup/cloud etc but that's not the point🤷🏻‍♀️). The deal just prompted me to act on my intention rather than wait.

Figured the deal is still good even without the price match. Got $1700 off my phone with no mention of the change to $1200. Received the $300 GC at the end.

Assuming there's no actual "fine" at the end of it and cancellation isn't a headache then still happy days at this end. 😊

      • +2

They can't charge you more than what is mentioned in the CIS.

      • $1200 is for any phone. $1700 was only for s24+ or s24u.

        • Possibly. I didn't see any signs near the s24+ or s24u for the $1700 promo but plenty around advertising the $1200 gc. I didn't take a photo so I can't say for certain the finer details on those signs.

          • @Kathrifty: It's on website. On s24u page it states 1700$. Other emails are coming with $1200 off any phone including iphone apparently.

  • -2

why the hell do these phones have like 5-6 cameras?

To capture yo mamma in a single picture

you must be very fun at parties.

        • +1

Not particularly mate, but if you got invited you'd have known that

  • I was on chat with JB mobile to cancel and suddenly the connection dropped and the chat window is loading anymore.

      • That's correct they had the zoom meeting so you screwed

        • hahahaahahaha.. here comes the bailiff

      • +1

        Negman strikes again..

      • +1

JB Hifi chat reps probably. You're giving their corporate overlord fresh new ideas of how to create more work for them…

        • That’s actually possible, they are in here reading what people are saying, including some of the houso type comments about reselling gift cards.
They are just going to make it harder to do, like making you port your number or checking how many times you’ve activated accounts.
All because people want to feel important by stating the obvious.

          • -1

@beach bum: My bad have unpublished my comments, wasn't obvious to me was just curious

            • +1

@Lit Homie: It’s ok , we’re all learning on the job.
I don’t mean to single you out,

There’s people here talking about individual jb employees and that is really uncool .
They may be helping people but that may not be how corporate sees’ it or even fellow workers , these discussions may have real impacts on people’s careers and lives .
Just pm each other about stuff like that .

    • Update: Switched to mobile app chat and cancelled the plan. Not much questions and no dramas.

      • +1

Login again. Happened to me, but i was able to login and reconnect

    • Hmm. Thought it was just me as that was happening to me too. I had close and re-open my browser.

Oh shit, am i too late to do this tomorrow? Didnt need a new fone until now

    • +1

Let see in few hours if promo disappears from s24u jb page.

    • +1

Says ends 18th but no time. So no idea if that means tomorrow it’s still on or not!

    • +1

I think tomorrow (18/9) will be your last day to pull this off assuming there're no behind the the scene changes by the upper management to prevent the cancellation etc

  • +2

Yesterday, I got them to do $1699 price match with Amazon Vocelro seller. Initially rep was reluctant but later she verified that the stock is Australian. After that it took a little bit of discussion to get both $1700 discount and $300 gift card. The cancellation was nice and easy. Telstra rep told me they will refund $99 after the payment first month $99 pending payment is clear.
So in the end the phone costed $566.59. The invoice shows GST of $154 and I will look into how to claim that back for my business.
    Thanks for the deal OP.

    • +1

Which store? $1699 stock was gray import lol. Lucky you

      • +1

She verified the Serial number and it matched with JB. I told her that Volcero (or whatever the name was) is Melbourne seller and has Australian stock.
She kept telling me how ridiculous this deal is and she is tempted to get one for herself 😜
        God bless her.
        Cranbourne store btw
Was Volcero stock really gray import?

        • Valco titanium black was au stock mentioned in their additional info, price was1740$. The titanium gray was gray import with local 12 months warranty and no mention of au stock it was 1699$. Both have price changed now from amazon. Cheapest is Telstra now

          • @dealhunting007: I can seem to find the original $1699 titanium grey Amazon listing from same seller. Do you have direct link for it?

I guess she checked price of titanium grey and changed color to black or violet and then checked additional information 🤣

    • You got lucky. Normally they only match sold and shipped by Amazon AU.

  • Is there a limit of number of plans under a single telstra account during a period & if so. How does it affect the credit score in future as we are paying approx 800 aud as cancellation?

    • You tell us

  • Did they changed their terms and conditions?
From the below, is it implying you'll get charged pro-rata the $1700 "JB Hi-Fi Voucher"
    If you cancel?

The $1700 off the purchase price of a Samsung Galaxy S24+ or Ultra phone(referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of a Samsung Galaxy S24+ OR Ultra phone and available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

    • The CIS as part of my contract says $800.

Today I wouldn't be surprised if they try and make people sign that as well though.
Good to get in early on these deals before all the staff know what's going on but it was definitely $1700 off plus a $300 gift card to start with. The price match is up to the individual sales assistant.

      • Does anyone know what to look out for on the contract (regarding cancellation terms/fees) if going into the store for the deal today? Just ask for how much to pay if cancelled?

      • Is your CIS an actual paper or just what you signed online?

  • Anyone been blacklisted by Telstra ?

They have one flag in the system so I can use my exisiting account but can never purchase anything.

Took it to the TIO ombudsman and they said they can choose to block certain customers if they are losing money

I did 3-4 contracts over a few years and also brought $8 000 of phones on Telstra day

    • A ref at JB did tell me prior who cancel these plans get flagged. We don't fully understand what that means at this stage.

      • Outright and Boost Sim usually the way to go, haven't got a plan since I was a youngster lol

    • Are you a true Blue Aussie then ?

    • if they blacklisted all of you where they are going to find customer in the future. LOL
