Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $487 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard on JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2760

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

  • Anyone has tried to exchange a S24 Ultra to a basic S24 or S24+? Are you able to get back the $800 difference (in giftcard)?

  • Is it still valid?

    • appears to be valid until end of day today as its still appearing on the JB website. Don't forget to price match. Telstra appears to be cheapest followed by Centrecom (even better for 512GB), followed by Mobiliciti. Amazon was cheaper but 3rd party seller (now gone) but only a few managed to get price matched to Amazon. Most got declined. Similar story with Telstra as they give an excuse that for Telstra price we have to route your order through Telstra so you won't get this deal.

  • Is this available for signing up a new number or port in old number only?

    • Yes it's a 24 month contract so those are the only options, or just buy outright from wherever.

      • So i can sign up new number right? Just don't want to get forced to port my number that's all

        • Yeah thata what I did and best way unless you want the data/plan.

Sounds like today is the last day of the deal.

  • +2

Will cancelling the plan within a few days of getting th phone affect JB hifi staff who sold the phone in any way? Just dont want the cancelation to have a negative impact on someone.

    • +1

Not sure but returning it surely would if they lose the sale. Telstra for enough money.

  • After signing up anyone tried price matching amazon with their 14day best price guarantee? or is that not eligible with plans?

    • JB has a 14 day price protection on sold products?

    • Yeah so why couldn't they price match Telstra $1899 at the time then? Probably can't use it with other promotions etc.

I paid with gift cards but guess can use the official tax invoice for tax purposes, not as easy as buying outright.

  • Hoping to go and do this today..

    (Unless they’ve closed the loophole)

  • -8

so you'll be paying $2,376 for the plan, plus $487 for 'phone' minus $300 giftcard which can only be used in JB. $2,563 over 2 years.

This phone was <$1,500 recently outright for 512MB version and $300 prepaid each year for 2 years. <$2,100.

It's a deal only if you heavily use this phone for data and constant work, otherwise mid tier phones for <$500 are the way to go.

    • +2

Don't know if they were that cheap outright, surely grey imports?

If you cancel the plan and get some price matching it still works out better:

      256gb price = $1999 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1164 and $300 gift card (= $864).

      • +1

And this without price matching (what I got yesterday)

        512gb price = $2387 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1552 and $300 gift card (= $1252).

So yes, only cheaper if you cancel, or if you do somehow need 300gb data a month 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • I went to Top Ryde and Macquarie store both wont price match and was shown that price must be ticketed price on the staffs terms and conditions.

Anyone know which stores in Sydney happy to price match telstra?

    • +1

Thanks you saved me a trip, Hornsby also didnt price match

      • Yeah wasted 1 and half hour

    • +1

Just did it at Liverpool no issues whatsoever. Price matched with Telstra and got $300 gift card! Very lucky

  • Received email from JB, Any Iphone $99 plan contract with $1200 off, look using similar CIS.

  • Tried Bendigo today, no price match, said it can't be used with their discount and said you can't use the $300 voucher alongside the $1700 off. So didn't bother. He said he was grilled by his manager for doing it earlier in the deal.

Anyone from WA managed to pull this off successfully? Which store was it?

    • I got 512gb ultra yesterday at Myaree. Didn't get a price match (I did ask but got told that staff were aware of it and had been told not to), but otherwise got the $1700 gc to use on the phone and then the $300 gc at the end to use another day.

  • I got the deal yesterday in Melbourne. The staff warned me from cancelling immediately as it can affect my credit score. Is this possible? She said to wait almost to the end of the month before cancelling.

  • +2

Just got this deal. They didn't price match the telstra deal but they were happy to price match to Bing Lee for $2077.

    • Did you get 300 gift card?

  • -1

I am not sure if this is relevant. I got this deal on the weekend, paid using credit card (westpac). I found out today that my card was used for a non authorised transaction, $350 cash advance Coinbase. Definitely not a coincidence as I didn't lose my physical card, I did not shop on any dodgy site and I don't use crypto. This is either JB or Telstra leak or got hacked to used my card (or poor security from Westpac?).

    • Jb buying crypto with your card to offset the loss of selling you the phone

    • +1

Jb Hi Fi, used our funds to pump btc which is what caused the spike last night as enough ozbargainers finally filled their stash

  • Anybody still able to successfully get it with price matching today?

    • Yes, with Telstra.

      • I tried two stores. One wouldn't price match. The other was happy to price match to Centre Com (but not Telstra) @ $2,049 for the 256GB variant.

Got a new number, no porting required.

    • Which store please?

  • +4

So just walk out of JB with a S24 512gb and S24U 512gb and $200 and $300 GC.
Both were Telstra price matched, under mrs name, no Telstra account needed. Total price 1299+2099-1550-1700=-148$. So we paid 148+2x99+767x2(if we cancel)

  • Is it worth the additional $200 to get the 512gb?

    • Yeah i am in 2 minds here too. Someone made a comment on another page that if you have cloud storage you really don't need 512GB.

    • Yes, and just price-match Telstra to offset it.

    • I got the 512GB. I am not planning to upgrade anytime soon so I thought extra storage would be a good thing. They wouldn't price match Telstra for me so matched to Centrecom for $2149 ($50 extra in comparison to Telstra) for 512 GB.

  • cancelled, and got a termination bill emailed to me just tehn from jb (about 4 hours after i cancelled on live chat) for $799.92 due Oct 2. I didn't have to pay the first $99 fyi. Presuming im safe to open my phone now - no further charges coming my way?

    • How did you get away with the first month charge $99?

      • +1

Yeah that's odd - I got charged $99 before I even got to the counter to pay for the phone.

      • i have no idea. the jb guy mentioned that first bill is due in two days (that was yesterday) and they wouldn't be charging me the first month as $99 was gonna be charged in only 2 days time.

        • +1

Did you have a Telstra billing ( another Telstra service) in place already before you signed uo to this 99$ contract?

  • Anyone hit Kedron up with pricematch?

  • +1

Signed up on Sunday and paid the $2187 ticketed price. Just went back to the store today at lunch time and had no issues getting a refund for the price difference when price matched to Telstra $1899. Too easy!

    • Refund to a GC?

      • Refund to a JB GC because I paid with TCN/Ultimate GCs. My partner who paid partially on card got that portion back on his card.

    • Wow amazing, my store won't price match Telstra

      • We got lucky, was definitely prepared for the possibility of them saying no.

    • do you need to bring the phone with you when doing the price match later, or just the receipt?

also should have matched amazon @ $1699

      • +1

I brought the phone but the sales assistant said I didn't need to; they just needed the receipt. Not sure the Amazon link is still active? Regardless, I'm happy to have paid the Telstra price.

    • -1

can i still go back and ask for price match even after i cancelled telstra monthly plan?

      • Let us know what they say when you go in.
Can't see how they ever would if you got a better deal with the $1700 off than the competitors price.
        Need to negotiate that first!

  • Is the Gift Card digital or physical?

    • +1

      Physical

  • Finally got the cancellation sorted. Took a while via online chat but did get a final bill due on 2nd of Oct. Payment is via Telstra app.

    • How much they advised?

      • final payment of $766.59
$99 first month mobile plan was paid when i purchased the phone at JB. i didnt try to ask for $99 refund

  • Who do we contact when we want to cancel? Telstra or JB?

    • +1

      Either one.

    • I contacted JBhifi help chat… They stuff me around for a bit. Even asked for a reason to cancel.

      • Just port your number out.

Why you need to contact them?

        • Hello.

So if we port the number away (say to Optus, Amaysim), then it'll automatically cancel the contract and issue the bill (as we're no longer with Telstra)?

    • I did jb first and they told me they can't help. Telstra sorted straight away

  • On the CIS, ths staff crossed out maximum repayment voucher of $800 and write down $1700. Is that a concern?

    • Def a concern.

      • It's just written on paper as he explained to me. He didn't seem to overwrite anything on the system as he is putting through the deal.

Is there a cooling off period if I don’t open up the phone?

        • I was told I have 30 days, as I wasn't sure about the colour and was going to change it later… Decided to keep it, though :)

          • @Ozico: Did you mean changing colours or totally cancel out without any penalties ?

            • @wildstone: They only had violet colour at the time and I mentioned that I might reconsider later and exchange it to different colour. No mention of returning and getting a full refund. But I am sure it shouldn't be a problem if the box is still sealed and undamaged.

    • 100% a concern. Ask and confirm the repayment value before cancelling.

      • How do I find out the cancellation fee?

        • when you purchase the phone they give you the order number paperwork. it includes the terms and conditions…under maximum voucher repayment fee it shows $800

  • Do we contact jb chat or Telestra chat to cancel the plan?

    • Either one will do

      • Thanks mate. And when is the best time to cancel it?

        • +2

Right after you walk out of JB Hifi ;)

          • +1

@itslittfam: But we have 1month to cancel it right? So isn't it better to use their service for 28 days or so and then cancel it?

            • @kingkhan1990: They are not refunding the $99. Better to use for 1 month. Get the $5 burrito and new account offers on menulog, doordash, ubereats, didi, jb perks etc.

  • Does anyone know if it's still fine to sign up to a new plan, then go to Telstra to cancel an old plan, and transfer old number across?
This is to keep the plan/phone, not to pull a swifty deal. I work remotely so Telstra is my only option, and I use the phone/data including tethering to my computer daily. Current plan is now complete and just recurring, same price.

I did this last time (2.5 years ago), and while they did it for me, they grumbled about unsavoury sales tactics etc.

TBH I find it in poor taste that they encourage people to leave their company and then come back, simply to take advantage of their deals. You would think retaining existing customers would be at the forefront of their minds. They're not alone in this though, banks are doing the same thing with deals on new loans, but nothing for existing ones, encouraging people to swap loans every 2 years.

    • It might be easier to port ur old number out and then in to new plan if u are planning to keep.

Highpoint no issue price matching telstra

    • hi,
do you have to show them that you have Telstra account?
who was your sales rep name?

  • JB Dandenong no issue price matching Telstra.

  • Awesome thanks..price matched and $99 back through chat.

    • Hi Jake,

Did you go through Telstra chat or JB chat? I just walked out the store.

      • Telstra

        • Thanks Jake,

Did you make up a sob story? or just straight up cancel now.

  • quick question - (just making sure i well and truly cover my own backside), have successfully cancelled and received the $800 cancellation invoice. It's not due to October so I'm not in a rush to pay it, but just making sure i won't get any further nasty surprises / fees / extra payments due? or am i now in the clear? I don't want to open the phone until I'm 100% in the clear - i intend to keep the phone fyi. thanks in advance
