probably $200
If you mean 200 for a HD I would say depending on the size you want to get. 24 inch go with HD, 27 inch go with QHD.
You can get a 27” QHD monitor for 200-220$
Don't go HD at all. FHD at bare minimum.
Be aware that the cheapest models tend to have stands with almost no adjustment possible other than tilt, which would make them a pain to line up alongside an existing monitor. So look a little deeper into the spec sheets for something with height adjustment at least, though you may want to consider the ability to rotate the screen as well.
If it has VESA mount on the back just buy a $30 monitor arm problem solved
Yep, works out reasonably well when paired with the current $270 pricing for the MSI 275QF particularly. It doesn't have any reviews from the major reputable outlets yet, but as a secondary monitor may be worth the punt for those not wanting to wait for the Omen 27q or VX2728J-2K to fall under $300 again.
EDIT: For context, I consider the four horsemen of reputable monitor reviews to be TFTCentral, PCMonitors.info, RTINGs and Monitors Unboxed.
The HP Omen 27q was on sale earlier for 27x would be of better value I think
I'll avoid this monitor, it's way worst than it's predecessor the S2721dgf. Ghosting and inverse ghosting still prevalent on this panel depending on whatever overdrive settings used, and it's reported they used several different panels for this model, so contrast levels may vary also.
That's a shame. It ticks all my boxes for what I look for in a monitor these days. 27 or more inches, 1440p, 144hz+ and an IPS panel.
For those specs, I recommend the Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A, should be cheaper than this Dell monitor, currently $329.
I don't have any issues with it. No ghosting during my gameplay.
It's not a black-and-white case because while this monitor does forego the old LG nano-IPS panel used by the S2721DGF, that means it does dodge the notoriously poor contrast of that panel. Even the more standard LG panel used by the first-revision G2724D was hugely superior in terms of contrast to the more hyped nano-IPS, RTINGs measured it at 1400:1 vs under 900:1 for the S2721DGF.
That was fairly excusable by the standards of the competition back when it released in 2020, but I wouldn't buy a nano-IPS panel in 2024. To be fair, in most other metrics it's still very strong and sometimes class-leading, but there's less reason to put up with that one big weakness now.
Anyway, a big downside here that many reviews of the S2724D are no longer relevant because there's a high probability the one you get from this deal will be different to the one reviewed. Supposedly the current revision uses a panel made by AU Optronics (AUO) instead. Not in itself a bad thing, but the lack of transparency from Dell is disappointing. Hardly unique though, the popular HP Omen 27q is subject to a panel lottery too, but you can be a lot more forgiving of that when it's 30% cheaper (when available).
In terms of alternatives to the HP, the advantage it has over similarly cheap MSI and Gigabyte models at ~$300 is that the HP is the only one with a decent stand, offering more than just tilt adjustment. The ViewSonic VX2728J-2K (currently $338, but goes to $299 semi-regularly) and Asus VG27AQL1A ($329 as mentioned above) for a little more thus tend to be better all-round picks until the HP goes back to its OzBargain darling pricing.
I got the G2724D back in May. HWiNFO64 doesn't show the panel being used. Doesn't show it for my laptop's screen either, nor for my other Dell monitor connected via USB-C DP for that matter of fact.
Would you know how I can find out the panel in mine?
@CVonC: Allegedly revision A00 shown at the end of the serial number (such as shown here on RTINGS' review sample) uses the Dell panel, whereas A01 (and possibly later?) uses an AUO panel.
However do note that that's anecdotal information coming from various Reddit threads at this point. Unfortunately confirming for sure means physically opening up the monitor. Reference this owner who opened one up to see the back of the actual panel.
@CVonC: How do you like it? Does yours have bad backlight bleed/glow like some of the reddit posts? Any bad tint to the colors? Much ghosting?
@Damon8: I love it. It's super bright, have to turn it down to like 25% @ night. The HDR is shit though so I've disabled that. But the main reason I bought it is because it supports VRR over HDMI which I need for G-sync to work with my laptop (doesn't have a mux switch). As for the glow, I don't notice any, but can you show me the Reddit posts?
Colours are a bit warm, I don't use the same calibrated settings from rtings though. Cos it's hard to match it with my laptop and other (Dell) screen on my triple screen setup.
@CVonC: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcmonitors/comments/1fcf1d2/d…
https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcmonitors/comments/1eb3n4c/d…These are just a couple, but I've read around that some have terrible glow/backlight bleed and returned them, possibly due to Dell using a different panel. You'll always have some IPS glow though.
Good to hear that it's bright too, I've read some panels are only hitting like 250-300nits, when it should be closer to 400-450? Maybe we're getting good panels here in Aus? Or it's still just luck. Have you tried using the sRGB mode? What does that look like? That should be the most accurate mode (according to reviews). It may lock out other temperature settings though, not sure. I understand if you're trying to match to other screens though. I'm just curious.
@Damon8: Hmm you got me looking into this. So I took a picture with my phone but set the iso and shutter speed manually so it doesn't exaggerate the effect. There is a bit of bleed on the top left of mine that is evident in the pic. But it's still not even noticeable irl in a completely dark room. The pov is slightly higher than eye level but relatively flush with the centre of the monitor (pic is cropped).
My laptop screen's brightness is only 300 nits, and yeah the G2724D is way too bright compared to it on max. My laptop and 2nd screen are set to 100% brightness and the Dell perceivably matches it at 65% with 100% contrast or 75% with 75% (default) contrast.
I've used sRGB (with the monitor's colour profile installed). It does seem like the best preset to use from my brief time with it. I'm not into photo/video editing. And the thing is though, the colour presets only work if console mode is off. I have to have console mode on in order to use VRR which forces me to set the colour temps manually.
One more thing, in some fps games, dark scenes are really hard to see so I have to use the built in "dark stabilitizer" set to level 3 (max) in order to see. It's basically like a gamma boost. Thankfully you can assign one of the buttons for it or a keyboard shortcut in the Dell Display Manager. And once again, HDR completely ruins dark scenes. It's permanently off.
@CVonC: Wow, thanks for the info. Very interesting. Yeah you seem to have won the panel lottery there, hardly any IPS glow! That's really good. Even you're other screen is very good. Seems strange that you should have to have console mode turned on to use VRR though - actually - that might just have to do with if you're outputting via HDMI. That makes sense about the dark areas of scenes being hard to see - in the reviews the gamma in the lower ranges are a bit high (so appear darker than it should). Good that there's a dark stabilizer setting to help with that. Enjoy it!
Yeah you seem to have won the panel lottery there, hardly any IPS glow!
The IPS glow is there, but just at certain angles.
Even you're other screen is very good.
Yeah it's not too bad, a 7 year old refurbished Dell P2417H. But yeah it's ageing.
that might just have to do with if you're outputting via HDMI
Yeah that's exactly right. Console mode to enable VRR over HDMI.
in the reviews the gamma in the lower ranges are a bit high (so appear darker than it should).
I thought high gamma would mean brighter? I don't really know too much about what all the stuff means. But yeah regardless, dark scenes are super dark.
Looking for a second monitor next to my Dell S3422DWG. But wondering if it is worth spending 400$ on this or just buying a basic 200$ qhd monitor
