Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 16GB Wi-Fi - $198 + ~ $7 Postage (Was $378) - EB Games Online

1210

Thought this was a good price for a premium quality tablet - Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 16GB wifi (was $378)

I've got this tablet and its great especially after upgrading it to ICS! still one of the best 7 inch tablets on the market. I've tried the Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch and think the 7.7 is much better with the Super AMOLED display.

This tech guy on youtube did a comparison between the tab 7.7 with the ipad Mini, and still reckons the tab 7.7 is still pretty decent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywPXJOUtZmM&feature=g-user-u

Let me know what you think.

Enjoy

why would you get this over the nexus 7?

The is only a dual core 1.5ghz vs quadcore on the nexus 7.

For $50 more nexus 7 is way better value.

Also, I got my Ainol Aurora 7 with dual core 1.6ghz + ICS 4.0.1 + 7 inch for $110 new

    • +2

You can't compare tablets based solely on the CPU. The expandable memory and AMOLED screen on the Samsung Galaxy Tab could prove to be the differentiating factor, for some (though I own a N7).

      • The ability to add storage to it without a dongle is a big deal
I like the nexus, but I'd only buy a tablet with a SD card slot
You can load it with Movies and Music etc.
Great for travel or daily commute

        • working in the public service, i've seen too many nexus 7s blow taking all data with it… leaving zero percent chance of recovery

with a samsung you just pop out the sd card

        • what public service do you work for where you get a tablet???

wish my work would give me one!

        • i never knew google/asus are a manufacturer of explosive fireworks. too many nexus 7s blow……….. just laugh…

        • errr

you do know tablets are becoming as common as sight as laptops…

even parliament has tablets so people dont need to print out notes/minutes

    • +3

Nexus 7 is a budget model with the most powerful CPU and google support
P6810 is a top quality model with a 1yo great CPU and no samsung support, but better & bigger screen, microsd slot, better battery, better looks. Not everyone is interested on having the latest android version and them most powerful CPU and prefer a nice and a bit bigger screen and some extra storage for music and movies.

I have the 3G model and I was planning to buy the N7 as a xmas gift, but couldn't resist this offer

Ainol is not an A league player as Asus or Samsung

      • +2

        very fare comment.

it is really difficult to resist this offer at this price, even though it is a more or less dated device.

also, i am an ipad mini hater, but i do love its dimentions and 7.9 inch is very handy imo. it is another reason i am inclined to galaxy 7.7, not nexus 7 (at this price, of cause)

      • i would not get ainol again after my one and only experience.

    • +2

also has better battery life with a 5100mAh battery compared to Nexus 7's 4325mAh battery.

  • How do these handle 720p MKV files?

    • +1

They would, expecially with a player like MX pro
But as the SD card will need to be formatted to FAT32
you will have trouble with files bigger than 4gig
So you will need to split them..Doh

      • Does it need to be formatted to FAT32?

        • My experience was that it needed to be otherwise it would not recognise it
          but I always used a 64gb
So check out the forums for 32 gig experience, but I would have thought it was the same

I owned an ACER a500 and popped in the 64gb card no worries
But the samsung 10.1 tab 2 had real issues
ened up using a PC program to format it to fat32 to make it work
          anyway thats my experience

        • Seems exFat could be an option

      • You can get apps to recognize NTFS formatted cards.

        Also, 1080p mkvs play fine.

  • only problem as i see it is that you need an expensive dongle to pass out hdmi

now this isnt a problem for me as i will rarely be using that however i note that theres no clone device… its all $39+

    • Personally dont see myself playing files directly of it
But yeah if thats what you want to do , this is not the unit.

    • +2

I purchased via Ebay for $25 delivered the genuine Samsung dock for this that has an audio out plus HDMI ( careful if buying a dock, Sammy has 2 versions one doesn't have the HDMI output), you need a micro HDMI cable for the dock. Great tablet once running ICS. I use it mostly for streaming radio and as a manga reader. Great form factor the 7.7 inch display.

      • Any chance of a link for that one? Thanks in advance! :)

  • +1

bought! too bad we cant do pickup, there are lots of ebgames around sydney cbd :(

  • Thanks OP, bought two :D

  • Which should I buy for showcasing photographs?
    The Nexus 7, Galaxy 7.7, or ….??

Something around the $200~ price line.

    • i would get the 7.7. microsd to load your photos onto, and slightly larger super amoled screen (although, less pixel density, as resolution is the same).

      • thanks for the reply,
I was thinking about using the Eye-Fi SD card along with it?

This is because my camera has a crappy display and I cannot see the details which I need to determine if it is a good photo or not.

I also currently have a HTC One X.
Should I use Eye-FI SD card with that?
OR should I purchase this tablet?

        xP

        Thanks.

        • +1

well, the 7.7 only has 80 more lines than the HTC One X, so will only give you slightly more pixels…and i don't know how the screens compare in terms of quality.

but, it's up to you whether the extra 3" of screen size is worth it!

and i personally wouldn't want to drain my phone battery running an eye-fi sd…that might be another consideration.

        • Hmm…
I seriously think the 7.7 is the way to go.

As you've said, the extra 3" of screen size is definitely worth it.
This is both beneficial for myself and others whom I may be sharing the photographs with.
Additionally, the 7.7 will at least offer me the option of loading my photos into the tablet. The battery is also worth considering.

          Thanks :)
(For making me spend $200 D: - jokes)

        • +1

no worries. now your turn to convince me to buy one! aha.

        • Two words for you…
          It's cheap.
          :D

  • So I'm looking for a tablet for reading PDFs, watching movies on the train into work, and mindless internet browsing in front of the TV - is this the one for the job? The price looks good, as does the "internet support"…

    • it is THE one. go for it!

i own a 10inch heavy old "new ipad". the screen is awesome (retina), but heavy. i love ipad mini's screen size (not the screen quality). this 7.7 is the only comparable tablet on the market in terms of size and weight.

  • +1

i heard from my brother galaxy tab is not as fast as ipad. ipad is smoother. so i guess nexus 7 is far better with quad core processor

  • anyone have experience how fast EB ships items? says 3-4 days for dispatch, do people have experience of them shipping faster? would be nice to get by friday in Perth so i can take it overseas this weekend with me. (and being an ozbargainer…the %10 GST refund)

    • +1

you gotta spend at least $300 in order to qualified for TRS lah!

      • doh… totally forgot about the $300 minimum. oh well… still a good buy. Thanks for reminding me of that

      • buy 2 ;-)

    • +1

Was going to buy one for my son for Christmas. Rang eb customer service who said they could not guarantee delivery to Perth for Christmas. They said it would get in the post by the end of the week but then it usually takes a week in transit so best would be the end of next week. Didn't allow for any margin of error.
Rang around and it doesn't seem there is any stock in Perth at the usual places.

  • Too bad it won't be getting 4.2, no individual user accounts… I really like this model but that's gonna be a deal breaker for me.

  • Damn, out of stock D: D:
Went out of stock when checking out

    • same here. back to wait for ipad mini 2 next year with retina.

  • Sold out. Congratulations to all who got this awesome deal (myself included)!

  • sold out in the time it took me to check with the wife for son for Christmas

  • sold out in the time it took me to check with the wife for son for Christmas

  • bought one (before it sold out)

  • just to confirm, is this now a finished model?

    • Yes.

  • Ohh, sold out. I missed that deal. :(

    • dont worry check ebay and gumtree there will be alot "unwanted present" "new in the box" "local warranty" of these

  • +1

Love these bargains that only last for a time long enough to give you a chance to buy if you really need one; Successfully resisted the temptation and now its sold out. Yay!

  • back again guys! but $378
    https://ebgames.com.au/tablets-156842-Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-77-…
now im wondering if the deal 198$ is refub/store demo :( yes i know they wrote new but as some suggested, its not always the case.

and funny the 10.1 version with wifi+3G, same price! anyone know why?
    https://ebgames.com.au/tablets-156480-Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-101…

    • Super AMOLED Plus was the reason I purchased this but you would think that 10.1 + 3g would raise the price

  • Got the email, mine's been shipped! :D

  • Email hit my inbox today. The 18th as an arrival date is probably pretty accurate.

  • My order was delivered yesterday. Can confirm that mine was 100% brand new in a sealed box (for those who were thinking that it may be ex demo).

    • Are u in QLD?

      • Got mine today, in QLD

btw the original price tag was $472

      • Yes. Was delivered to my office in Brisbane CBD

  • Has anyone upgraded theirs to ICS yet? It is extremely power hungry after the upgrade. Mine used to have 1 week standby now only 2 days.

  • I got an email on the 11th saying mine had been shipped. Thought it would've arrived by now, with Aus Post doing deliveries 7 days a week leading up to Christmas. Also my tracking number is apparently invalid :( Will call EB on Tues if it hasn't arrived by then. Glad to see other people are getting theirs and that they're brand new though!

    • Woo! Postie woke me up at 7:30am with my beautiful tablet. Brand spanking new :)

  • +1

Has Anyone recieved their order yet?

i ordered two tablets one came with the sticker already cut and another came with the sticker intact. Box looks old but when when i checked inside of the one with the sticker cut it looked all brand new.
Not sure if its factory seconds or demo or refurb.

Isnt it illegal to advertise something stating its brand new when it obviously isnt?

  • So mine just arrived, box open, manual tatty, fingerprints on device. Any oz b advice on how to proceed. Battery dead flat too.

    • +2

Damn hipefully someone took screen dump of the page saying "new" and can put it online. I think you can get full refund if u contct ebg

    • +1

Have you found out the "up time" in "settings" on this tablet yet? Call EB for a discount on your "opened box" or "refurbished" instead of brand new tablet you received. If you are not happy with whatever they tell you just ask for a refund then they will have to resell it as an "opened box" or "refurbished" tablet.

      • Tab is completely dead so no up time stuff to check.

  • It may actually be dead on arrival, doesn't seem to want to take a charge

    • Yep, dead. Merry Christmas from EB.

  • +1

Got an opened box as well. The unit is still sealed but the box seal was broken and looks not great (unusable as a present). Not 100% happy …

  • +1

The one that i got open was dead flat too which leads me to think that it was turned on previously as all brand new devices have some charge.

Everyone on here that has bought this item and has gotten a damaged boxed or refurb or used item should email EB asking for either a discount on our products if you are happy to get or get a refund.

If you are happy to keep the device we should be entitled to a discount as the item isn't brand new as stated on the sale. I should have a print out somewhere. Does this mean if someone was to buy a 7.7 Tab from EB today for the price of $378 will be the same boxed/open item?

Seems like about time Fair trading got involved for misleading advertising and reading other forums for other tables it seems like other customers have recived open/used tablets when they have been advertised as new.

    1. Advise how many of you guys want to keep the table and get a discount from EB?

    2. Advise if you want to get a refund?

and lets get some sort of compensation/refunds started and maybe seek fair trading's advise on this as well.

    • I'll happily get involved however as my unit arrived DOA I'd like to think I'll have it promptly exchanged for a new one. I'm hoping they don't try to simply give me a refund and refuse to do the exchange, if that's the case it will hit the fan so to speak.

  • Might be of interest to anyone that's received and possibly dodgy one.

    http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/21101/how-to-tell…

  • What did happen last time on lrevious deal when ebg also sent refubh items? Did people get refund/replacement/discount?

  • Just got off the phone with EBgames and they have advise high majority of the tablets have been used in-store ie Demo stock.

They have also advised that there was a Banner stating it was Demo stock (which i didnt see)

Anyone else saw this so called Demo Banner?

    • Not me, anyone else?

    • Didn't see any demo banner. In the same boat as you guys, box was dirty, tablet is DOA. Going to call them up now.

      • It was definitely New in the listing. Too bad i didn't take screenshot :(

  • Hey Mini Wombat

When you say your tablet came sealed as in it hasnt been used as a demo? Did you check the up time of the tablet to date?

Mackaxx do advise what happens with your DOA.

  • So, an update. On the phone to EB this morning, customer service rep quite helpful which was a small blessing. The only option is a return to qld office, then they will send me out the replacement tablet which is currently on hold. This is nothing to do with the box open vaguely used status however, just the dead on arrival nature of the tablet. Fingers crossed on a turnaround for Christmas but no guarantees.

I didnt take them to task over the issue with the box being open as I am most interested in just getting the thng by Christmas and the replacement should be new.

Happy to get in contact with fair trading if anyone else wants to pursue the issue though, just to back up the assertion that it was false advertising. I didnt see any banner, if there was one at best it would still be flagged as misleading.

  • +1

    Hi Mackaxx

I think we should as a number of us have bought this item as brand new rather then demo stock based on the listing on the EB website.

Lets get a list of the number of guys that want to go to Fair trading we dont want to go down the refund route as we do want these laptops but we should have been given what we bought.

    • No issues with that, if someone starts a case with the ombudsman then I'm happy to provide corrobaration. Issue is resolved personally for me but will add my voice to the numbers happily.

  • I just spoke to EB games again now asking for a point of contact for the complaint.
The agent put me on hold after i told her on what the issue is and that the box was open and i spoke to someone this morning and they advised that it was demo/refurb device.

She spoke to her manager and since then have advised that all the Tablet itself are brand new but the box was used for demo at stores.

I have spoke to two agents and two different stories.

    • There is a reason why these people do what they do.
If they were any better at telling lies, they would be in politics.

I did look at this deal, but after it was mentioned that this seller was good at selling used stock I decided to not go any further.

How ironic, on previous page a person asked whether it was new or refurbished, and was voted down 6 times.
Perhaps those of you who received "demo boxes" should vote him/ her up.

  • Received mine today, delivery carton damaged, product box seal broken, light scuffs on back of the tablet even though the protective film over the screen is still intact.

Rang up EBgames they said these are marked down in price for Monday Madness sale and were tagged as 'refurbished/ex-demo' products which the box etc spent sometime in stores for display while the tablets themselves are kept separately at the back.

    • +1

did you mention the word BUY NEW just above the price on Monday, no refub banner/warning anywhere, and if so, what did they say?

      • Anyone got a screen shot?

    • I have mentioned that. Rep said they will be sending me an email once they verify there are 'Brand New' replacements available in their warehouse so they can put one on hold for me, once I ship the original back to them they will happy to exchange it with a new one.

But I have yet to receive any email from them regarding this, I will keep you guys posted if there is any update.

  • received mine today
box looks a little worn, box has a seal but it looks like the seal sticker has been placed over a slightly smaller seal sticker.
I am unsure if the sticker underneath is intact.

I will find out in 8 days

    • I will find out in 8 days —> why 8?

      • I purchased it for my wife …
to give to me for Christmas :)

    • +1

Same here. The second sticker is a Samsung Sticker which makes me think it's either 1) Refurbished or 2) Grey Stock and they have opened the box to change the charger.

I was going to give this as a gift, but I think I have no option to open the box and investigate. Otherwise, I'll call them in the morning and request a brand new replacement.

If anyone has a screen shot of the original deal please post it.

  • received mine few mins ago.
box definitely not "brand new" alot of marks, fingerprints, colour faded on the green wifi label on top right corner for example.
sticker seal still there (but only 1 seal on mine, other got 2 or just 1?) intact.
so i torn it, and… all brand new stuffs inside.. all wraps including manual chargers etc.
im 100% sure i got new tablet with "used" box

edit: battery flat. but im charging it ,,,and its on now…

    • There is no mention of Refurbished or Demo on the invoice, and if logged onto EB website in order history the description links to the new $378 sale page also with no mention of Refurbished or Demo stock.

  • SO Is EB games replacing the opened box with brand new devices?

  • +2

I'm pretty sure I took a screenshot of the page - will post a link tonight. My box was in poor condition but it was sealed and tablet and accessories were all sealed and brand new. I have no problem but will post for others. I saw no banner stating demo/ Return. Sounds like ebgames is going to get a complaint from fair trading / accc

    • That would be very much appreciated

    • +1

Below is a PDF print copy of the webpage on 12/10/12 (american date format).

Let me know if you can't download it and I will use a proper file hosting site instead of my dropbox account.

      https://www.dropbox.com/s/6jdakq9vs5jlwb5/Samsung%20Galaxy%2…

      • Thanks, but I am happy with mine so I have no need to pursue this any further.

  • They should as a number of us have bought it under the pretence and advertised as New.

If it was refurb they should have put on there as refurb or damaged box etc.

  • im happy to write 1-2 sentences about my box condition (inside are fine) if someone post link to the fair trading open complaint file. my box is definitely not new
