Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 16GB Wi-Fi - $198 + ~ $7 Postage (Was $378) - EB Games Online

1210

Thought this was a good price for a premium quality tablet - Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 16GB wifi (was $378)

I've got this tablet and its great especially after upgrading it to ICS! still one of the best 7 inch tablets on the market. I've tried the Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch and think the 7.7 is much better with the Super AMOLED display.

This tech guy on youtube did a comparison between the tab 7.7 with the ipad Mini, and still reckons the tab 7.7 is still pretty decent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywPXJOUtZmM&feature=g-user-u

Let me know what you think.

Enjoy

  • I am in the process of doing that.
I will talk to EBgames once again and see if they are willing to replace with a brand new item or not based on the advertisement.

I opened mine and it's definitely brand new. Very happy with that because I'm generally unlucky when it comes to things like this.

  • I already lodged a dispute with PayPal to get a replacement or a discount.

  • Hi Unity1

Was your box brand new as well or just the tablet inside?

    • The box was a little scuffed up and a little dull in colour ie not shinny and glossy, the way you would expect a box to look if it was a little old.

There were two samsung security seals, 1 over the other. The outer seal was not broken, but I'm not sure about the inner most seal. The unit was in immaculate condition and it turned on, so I'm satisfied its brand new.

Same here, you would think the box should be plastic wrapped if it's new but I cant complain about the content's as it looks brand new, maybe the box has been opened to change the power adapter?

  • Did it turn on right out of the box? It already had charge or did you put it on charge.

  • Straight out of the box

  • I got mine, found scuff marks on the bottom of the tablet, the box was opened by someone else, looked like a faulty warranty return product and someone has tried to make it look new but has done a poor job..

  • i have emailed EB for a explanation so i can get something in writing.

  • Hi all,

Below is a PDF print copy of the webpage on 12/10/12 (american date format).

Let me know if you can't download it and I will use a proper file hosting site instead of my dropbox account.

    Register with samsung to get 24 months warranty with this product;

    http://cybersvc2.samsungcsportal.com/cyberservice/csc/accoun…

The $198 price tag just gets better and better!

    • i think i read somewhere on that samsung page about warranty, you dont have to register to be entitled to warranty under australian law. if you like to see black in white, go and register :)

  • I opened mine today. My box was dirty and old and missing the seal. The tablet and accessories inside the box were sealed in wrap, but the USB cord was used.
It is clear to me that I received a refurb unit, so I will be contacting EB tomorrow to sort something out as I ordered a new unit.
Also, my battery was completely dead.

    • for me i just use kies, first attempt was stuck - because i use wifi on my laptop. switched to cable and also turn off antivirus, but thats all. kiess found new firmware and everything done in 30 mins

      • So you upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 successfully? I've heard Samsung does not release ICS 4.0.4 for Tab 7.7 in Australia.

        • nope, they are. on november 2012 only. yes successfully using kies, (but i had also the raw rom file with odin just incase)

  • Received today, very angry. Have written email to customer service requesting immediate response and replacement. Will be on the phone tomorrow afternoon if no reply is received.

  • I emailed EBgames and no response, i then called them yesterday afternoon and was told that the replacement they provide most likely will be demo as well as they dont have brand new so i asked for this to be send to me over email. The agent advised that they will forward the request to their supervisor and the supervisor will email me. I requested for that it be send to me before close of business which it never arrived.
I ordered two tab 7.7. One came sealed with the Samsung sticker unopened but the box was very dusty, looked old and had sticker makes on it. The other one came with the deal open and the box with cut marks on the side.

So now I have lodged a complaint with Fair trading requesting that a brand new, unopened, undamaged Tab 7.7 should be provided as per their listing. I will advise of the outcome.
Seems like the purpose of buying this as a Christmas gift has gone out the window as EB games are really slow with shipping and i am off on holidays from this weekend.

The fact that the battery was dead straight out of the box lets me believe that the tablet has been at least turned on or refurbished.

    • please share your link to the complaint with FT here and whirlpool, i will lodge on base i suspect mine could be refub aswell (normal people cant tell but the box definitely not new, and when we buy EBG advertised as new)

  • The statement that all they have left is demos is false, as they have new ones for sale on their website.

  • Just called EB games. I wanted a new tablet to replace the refurb one that I received. The representative advised that they only have about 20 or so left in stock, and that all 20 of these have their seals broken. Basically, the representative said they after they received so many 'mad monday' orders, they recalled stock from stores, which would have included display models, etc. She advised that you can return the tablet to any EB store for a refund if you are not happy. She also said that they could no discount the tablet any further just because it is a refurb model.
Kinda sucks, but that's were I am at.

    • now they admitted they cheated on customer, please someone teach me how to lodge a complaint (or maybe combined complaint/support opened complaint).

  • Mate regardless of what EB says if they have displayed it as a Brand New item then you should get a new Item. They cant advertise a item as new and send refurb stock.

Lodge a complaint with Fair trading and see what the outcome is. As Mackaxx pointed out that they have the Tab 7.7 onsale and with EB has told you means that even paying $378 for the new Tab 7.7 you will get a refurb already opened Tab 7.7

Yeah I agree, new is new. But I like the tablet (and replacing it now with a new one doesn't appear to be an option)… so do I just keep the refurb and move on (the refurb is in perfect condition). I'm not sure what a Fair Trading complaint would do (for me?), as EB have already offered a full refund. (Might just serve to teach EB a lesson in false advertising, I dunno)

      • maybe an ozb spirit. you get the deal from here now support the others (DOA cases or some demo damages) that might get full refund but missed out the deal :) the more people more likely FT will look at.
who knows maybe EB will give discount after FT scream at them

        • Fair enough - I'm more than happy to support the OZB community. I will contribute to a FT complaint, but like you, I don't know anything about it. So I need someone in the know to take the lead.

Mate just fill in the information on here. And instead of a refund see if they can replace it with a brand new un open undamaged box item.

    or provide a discount

  • For supposedly Internet savvy types hunting down online bargains many here appear to suck at the Internet. Google fair trading, call them.

You may get referred to the telecommunications ombudsman.

Or is it just people trying to get out of putting in the effort to lodge a complaint? (Like me for instance, I'm a bit apathetic about it all to be honest) Fair trading etc basically act as your advocate once the complaint is lodged so its less effort than you think once the ball is rolling.

As long as I receive a replacement for my doa tablet I'm happy to let this one slide, but will also send a quick email if anyone needs backup.

    • dont count on fair trading completely.

i was conned by Sydney Underworld (a diving company), and reported it to Fair Trading. after approx 3 months, Fair Trading sent me a letter. they told me that they tried to contact that company, but in vail. (that company was sort of uncontactable). Fair Trading gave me two suggestions: 1. give up. 2. escalate the issue (but then i have to pay for a small amount)

  • I received mine so thought I'd share the condition of mine…
Box was very dusty and dirty. Only a few dints, etc. Still got a seemingly old price sticker from EB on it for $538. Security seal/sticker was in tact although seemed to be stuck over another one that was broken.
I opened it up and everything is 100% brand new - never been touched. All packaging, screen protectors, shrink wrap on cables, etc all in tact.
So I agree EB is very dodgy here selling a used/dirty box, but considering the tablet is brand new, I'm not too fussed.

I cannot confirm if my battery is full or not as I am giving this as a present, so do not want to unwrap the cables, etc.

I ordered this tablet online on the Dec. 10th and was very disappointed to receive a used item yesterday. Since Ebgames had not responded to my email from yesterday I decided today to contact them directly by phone.

When I called, until I mentioned that I had a screenshot clearly showing that the product was sold as "New" the rep insisted that they were originally labelled as refurbished. I pushed for the product to be replaced with the new tablet that I had, in good faith, ordered. She then said that any replacement would also be a shop-soiled or ex-demo product. I pointed out that the exact same tablet was still being advertised online as in stock and "new" and was told that these tablets were also shop-soiled and ex-demo tablets, despite the fact that they were (and are) labelled as "new".

I wash my hands of this company and shall be taking it back to the local store for a refund. I have also just got off the phone with the ACCC to report what I believe are some very deceptive trading practices.

I strongly urge anyone else who has been caught out by this company to call the ACC on 1300 302 502 to lodge a complaint.

Yes I too have received a moth eaten box that has a dodgy looking seal, also my Toshiba tablet had someone's left over sim card frame left in there….what the?

  • mine was new, sealed with all plastic on the tablet. Box had a few scuffs.

  • class action!

p.s. I'm still waiting for mine to arrive.

  • christmas from ebgames = DOA :(

Commenting here so that I can find this post at a later date….trying to compile a list of heavily discounted tablets as research :)

  • Replacement arrived today, scuffed up box but had what appeared to be an intact seal. Dead flat but after several tense seconds it took charge. Success.

    • And I have to say that this is a great little tablet. Very much impressed and perfectly happy to keep touchwiz on it. Yes it wasn't great on my old galaxy S but on this I've no issues (post ICS upgrade)/
