Quick and dirty way to get a tonne of money locked up on the books, often done before you go out of business (Dick Smith) but unlikely if it's a Coles business, and if your GC gets dispatched, it's only Amazon that has you by the balls instead.

And then like Costco, they have your mind share "oh well I already paid for the membership so I better do my grocery shopping there" regardless of whether or not Aldi is cheaper

  • +1

thanks @VantageXL, bought 1$200 and 1$500 cards, received both and successfully added to the account. Didn't work via pc, but worked via phone with no issues at all.

  • side Q: i was looking at iphone on amazon and saw some with a cheaper price with "renewed" - what does this mean? refurb / 2nd hand?

    • +1

Refurb, and the iPhones are not sold by Amazon.

  • +5

    Thanks OP
I can finally pay my annoying ATO “officer” and prevent myself from “going behind the bars” the good thing is though while I’m paying him he can also get me a refund on that fraudulent Amazon transaction.
The ATO is so helpful since they started working with Microsoft Tech Support and Amazon!
    Winning!

    • Must be the same guys calling me too.

      • George Smith? Nice guy with an unusual accent from Sydney? Very helpful ;)

        • George Smith won't give me the ABN for his company since it is illegal to provide ABN details over the phone.

        • He calls himself Mr. Anderson. Just gave 2k worth of gc. Hope he stops calling

          • +2

@Brakus: I can't wait for LLM to scrape this thread and think it's real… Then when Fred Google's how to pay off ATO debt, Gemini will tell him to wait for a 10% discount on gift cards to save money.

  • +1

Just out of curiosity what do you guys buy on Amazon? Hmmm

    • +4

      Grocery and tech

  • does cash back normally applies to gift card payments as well?

  • -1

Will cashrewards cashbacks go bac into the gift card as credit?

  • good deal but my VISA cards don't work

  • ANZ credit card failed transaction. Called the bank (took me 30mins wait time), basically the system flag it as suspicious ($2250 transaction for 5 gift cards) and has blocked my card. It will take an hour for them to clear this and hopefully it will work afterwards.

  • Thanks OP

  • no Probs with Citibank CC

  • Had to disable AdBlocker (uBlock Origin) for spinner to go away, then ANZ QFF CC failed.

Honestly, 10% off isn't enough for me to bother calling ANZ support.

  • +1

I'm tempted to buy $2500 worth of cards but then again it would take years for me to spend that much of money on amazon. What to do.. what to do..

    • +2

Don't forget the ongoing savings rate is around 5%. You'd basically be lending money to Amazon.

  • Thanks OP. Paid by CBA debit card and no issue at all.

  • +3

Are people really needing this much Amazon credit or just banking for their lifetime lol

    • +3

That's better than putting your money in bank account, getting that immediate 10% off for daily items you use

    • +2

      the latter. this is ozbargain!

  • worked ok for me with CBA mastercard
bought stuff yesterday, have cancelled now and await the discounted gift cards to re-purchase!

    • I bought last night and already got delivered today :(

  • Had two different banks put holds on my cards because they thought it could be fraud.

    • Name checks out then.

  • Do you have to use the value of the gift card in one transaction.

    • +1

You load the entire card balance into your Amazon balance, so yes and no.

  • +14

Let's get the numbers right on this one. If you end up spending the stored amount after a year, it's effectively just 5% off considering the current savings rate is around 5%. If you spend it after 6 months, it's effectively 7.5% off. Unless you spend it straight away, you won't be receiving the full benefit of the 10% discount.

    • +1

Yeah, that’s something gift card hoarders just don’t get. I normally try to time it with some big incoming purchases like smart phones or computer, or aim to some reasonable amount that should be spent within 6 months, may be a bit more in holiday seasons like BF or Xmas.

    • +1

Personally I just got enough to pay for a year of Prime which renews in two weeks, so it's good timing for me.

    • +5

For any savings / interest - remember you also have to pay tax on that so deduct that too..

      • +2

Plus, there are other factors - i.e. earning credit card points.

    • Post tax on bank interest it's better

    • +2

Sometimes it's to reach spending limit on CC

    • +1

the current savings rate is around 5%

      That's 5% before tax.
The interest accrued gets taxed yearly.

    • you must not know about ozbargain math

  • +1

    Lit deal

  • +4

Glad Commonwealth Bank is so loosey-goosey with security, my order went through just fine lol

  • +1

    Perfect - thanks OP!

  • Nice got mine too, used Amex.

  • +1

I ordered at 9:22 this morning, received the tax invoice email but haven't received the gift card email :(

    • +2

Interesting, I got gift cards but no invoice lol

      • Same.

    • I bought with amex, still waiting for that confirmation email and gift card email (checked both inbox and spam)

      • How long ago?

        • 5mins ago
Updated: I got both the gift card and confirmation email now!

          • @flipmode: Lol, I'm still waiting 🤦🏾

            • +1

@Jfi2ee: damn, wanna send an email to the customer support team?
Did you also take a screenshot of the order with the order number?

              • @flipmode: I'm on the phone now, I got the the invoice sent to my email so no concerns about proof

              • @flipmode: whats the support email

                • @capslock janitor: It's in the website, located at the bottom of the page, black section where it says customer service. Hope that helps!

    • I received the card immediately, but no invoice.

  • Is it good to add it to your Amazon account to prevent it to be stolen even if you are not using it now?

    • +3

if you only have 1 amazon account it is better to add the gift card now.

      • +1

If Amazon arbitrarily decides to suspend your account, your GC balance is also frozen.

Yes, it has happened to folks who haven't broken any rules.

        • Haven’t heard anyone complain about that before, must be a percent of a percent if it’s effecting anyone

          • @TheFreaK: It does happen, check the forums.

            • +2

@HardQuiz: Just looked, only saw people complaining about eBay suspensions

              • @TheFreaK: I was one of those eBay ones 😂, gosh they are a horrible bunch of thugs.
Amazon are saints by comparison for my experience

    • Depend on you. Someone says their Amazon gift card balance disappeared for no reason, someone said redeem it, other might steal it. So no 100% answer, although I haven't experienced any of those.

  • +1

Amex works great! Thanks OP, brilliant deal

  • Got 2500. Thanks!

  • Can I use multiple email address accounts to purchase gift cards if I want to get more then 2.5?

    • yes

    • Didnt work on my amex. 2.5k limit then transaction failed.

Tried commbank, bendigo, revolut. No go

      • I have the same problem.. Amex and Citi didn't work for 2nd order.

  • +3

Failed transaction on 4 cards :(

  • +1

Westpac works. But no email in 5 mins. How long until giftcard is sent to email?

    • +4

It took 15 mins to get the giftcards. Had a panic.

  • Great deal. Worked with Up card first time. Delivered 5min later

  • +1

Just brought $500… instant regret not getting more lol

    • +1

Same got $800 worth just to cover the cost of the Quest 3 then thought to myself why didn't I just get more especially during this sale period lol…

  • Wow, thanks OP. Just bought $1300 with Commonwealth Bank Platinum Debit, no confirmation email yet but I imagine their systems are pretty overwhelmed.

  • After deals and deal missed due to failed payments with CBA credit card. It finally worked this time!

  • Worked with CBA credit card on 1st go

  • Thanks OP, best bf deal.

  • I was able to make a second purchase with the same card and details. Cheers.

  • Success with ubo off and tampermonket off on Chrome

  • NAB credit card failed.
Amex was asking for some stupid passcode which i have no idea about.
    Citi worked with sms OTP.

Lesson learnt: have multiple cards, as many as possible!

    • also try different browsers + incognito

    • My NAB Visa CC worked fine…

      • Mine didn't but on chat NAB told me it's not a bank issue as they didn't see anything so seems like a merchant issue

  • +1

    Thanks OP,

Tested/bought it using standard Google Chrome with CBA Credit card successfully. Received the GC in the email too.

    Happy White Friday everyone!

  • Come on….haha
Transaction failed, please contact customer service.

    • Westpac blocked my card due to suspicious activity for 450 to Coles group haha.
I even used the otp during payment and it blocked it.

Went through after unblocking now though.

      • i called westpac and they said they haven't blocked it.. yet I still can't pay using the westpac card on the website

        • i've had issues with them in the past as well. I used bankwest cc for this one. Seems to be fine but I only bought a $100 one

        • I had to try about 4 times before it finally went through

  • +1

Tried using ANZ, Citi, Amex cc. All transactions failed.

  • international credit card transaction blocked by default… I don't think I want it too much

  • +1

Looks like the limit on 1 order per day per customer is based on payment card. I made the first order this morning using Westpac Qantas Black CC, worked fine. Trying to make a second order now with different email and mobile number, didn't work. Used NAB VISA CC and payment went through.

    • 2nd one didn't work for me with different email, mobile #, payment card.

      • Maybe use a different browser / do it on another device?

I used mobile Chrome in the morning and then just now laptop EDGE browser.

        • I tried incognito, different browsers, mobile hotspot.. may try different device later :)
