Apple India ID required. Buy gift cards from Amazon India

  1. Set up an Indian Apple ID using your AU mobile number to verify.

  2. Login into an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, using an Indian Apple ID by going to settings > Your name > Media and purchases.

  3. Buy Apple gift cards from Amazon India using your AU amazon account. Enter an Indian address (make sure indian address is selected) and use an international fee free card. Then load gift cards to your Apple ID.

  4. Open up Youtube app - head to account (right bottom corner) > settings (right top corner gear icon) > purchases and memberships

  5. Choose a plan of your liking

Set up google family before signing up to family account https://families.google/families/

    Have tried using both surfshark and pureVPN and those aren't working either.

      • Have managed to set up the Indian apple account, and logged into YT with my normal Google account. Pops up when I select the "Get YouTube Premium" part. Muchos sad.

          First of all, you should not be using VPN

    Out of nowhere after using fine for 8 months, anyone else?

    Anyone know how to fix this?

    • A member of family group who live in NZ received this as well and their premium access has stopped.
      Oddly, 3 other family group members who are also in NZ still have access but I guess it's only a matter of time.

  • Still works, renewed 6/10/25.
    If you're not an apple person, don't be like me and forget to top up in time, and get the YT premium membership cancelled. Had to borrow someone's ios device and login with my indian apple ID to redeem the new amazon balance. As long as you keep adding the the balance before this happens (on amazon india, no ios required) it'll just keep renewing, no ios device required. Only needed the first time.

  • I'm getting the error "We couldn't verify your country." everytime I click on YouTube Premium in the YouTube App. It wouldn't let me renew the Family membership. I have India as a country in the payments on my iOS but Youtube throws this error, unless I change the Apple Account to Australia then it would let me sign up but at AUD prices :(

  • 9th October 2025 - Same problem - "We couldn't verify your country." at the final stage in the YouTube App - India as a country in the payments. Deleted app, force phone restart, turn off location settings. Reinstall app. But still the same error message. The only thing i can think of now is trying to delete the app on other phones etc, where I might be logged in. But i don't think that will help. Anything i might be missing?

        I’m trying to to log out of Apple ID and rea tremor but they make it very difficult.

        So hoping there is a workaround. Have rupees invested. 🤣

        • I never actually signed up using the Apple ID method. For years I was just using the old Indian VPN trick along with my Indian credit card and it worked fine. But now all of a sudden, I get this 'couldn't verify country' error.

          I even tried signing up through Apple ID but I'm still getting the same error. I even tried signing up on a PC that's actually in India by screen sharing and it still won’t go through.

            @batrarobin: Try to download a video and if you get a pop up to get premium. Get whatever plan they show then change by going in subscriptions via app store.

    I just had my Indian subscription lapse and the YouTube app wasn't letting me resub to premium saying they couldn't verify my location.

    A solution that worked for me was (assuming you've created an Indian/turkish Apple ID and have successfully subscribed to YouTube premium via the main method previously + have enough credits in Indian/Turkish currency)

    1. Stay signed into your main YouTube account but Indian/turkish apple account.
    2. Go to setting on your iPhone/ipad,
    3. Type in subscriptions
    4. Go to youtube premium subscription
    5. Make sure the resubscribe is in Indian/turkish currency
    6. Renew subscription.

    This method bypassed the YouTube app blocking me based on location.

        Sorry I should specify that you're renewing YouTube premium while in Apple setting, not the YouTube app

        • So this would only work if you already have had a YouTube premium subscription at some stage and it is showing in apple. I do not, so not in there.

      This method worked for me as well.

      I was getting the "Couldn't verify location" error everyone else was experiencing using the YT app.

      Worked a charm.

      Just loaded more INR to my apple account so was spewing cos of this issue!!

    • I got sent an email that my subscription expired. But I just resubscribed and it let me so idk what's going to happen. Youtube seems to know that the majority of the activity on the account is not from an indian ip address.

      I tried your steps and they "worked" - as in, the money has been taken out and subscription is active according to Apple.

      However, I'm still not getting premium in the YT app after about an hour.

        Fixed!

        Not sure why I experienced this issue, but even 12 hours later, I had no premium.

        Here was my fix:
        1. Change Payment Type on your Apple account from UPI to Net Bank (check instructions by @jonathant1 below)
        2. From the App Store (iOS or MacOS), go into subscriptions
        3. Select your YT subscription and change it to Music Premium
        4. Wait about 5 minutes, then change it back to YT Premium

        This did take a bit of extra credit from me - we'll see if it all works out after next months renewal.

              • @B-Moose: No still not working. I think something funny happened and it made one of the member accounts the owner. Either way, will find out next month when it all resets.

      Was advised I had cancelled my subscription which I did not….also no email advice of that.

    • Hi Khanggy, any idea why my YouTube premium subscription is not appearing there?

      I’ve also tried switching my Apple account to India and try to renew it in the YouTube app but it kept saying “We couldn’t verify your country” despite using VPN and also changing country on YouTube account to India.

  • Here we go again, no longer premium. Family plan stopped working. Testing out the new Comet browser to see if it actually blocked youtube ads.

    I've been enjoying this for about 9 months. I prepaid a month on my Indian Apple ID and when that worked intopped it up with 6 months credit. 3 months ago I added another 6 months top-up. Just now I opened YT on iOS and it said "this could be your last ad free video" and prompted me to renew. I never got any emails about it being cancelled, but YT purchases and subscription page showed it was cancelled and not set to renew. I was able to set my Indian Apple ID for media and purchases again and renew via the iOS YT app again. Now it says it will renew when my current sub expires. Hopefully it keeps working for at least the 3 more months worth of credit I have on my Indian Apple ID 😬

      Same issue here. Seems like they cancelled a bunch of people. I managed to renew the subscription like you did. Hopefully it goes through but I have a bad feeling about how long it's going to last.

    I got a message saying I cancelled my subscription (didn't) log in and it says I can renew, have plenty of apple credit, but I need to put in a UPI (through web browser), I'll try iPad tomorrow.

    For those showing UPI via web browser (when trying to renew), what worked for me was:
    1. Login to app store using indian apple ID via phone
    2. Go to "Manage Payments"
    3. Select Net Bank (instead of UPI)
    4. Select any bank (I did Axis bank), then add in Indian address
    5. Add/top up your apple balance
    6. Renew YouTube subscription

    What's the best way to top-up Apple balance as of Oct 2025? Is buying Amazon App Store Codes still the best way to top it up or any other recommended ways?

    • I believe so. I bought an Indian app store code worth 6 months of subscription in April, so I only have 1 month worth of credit left when this issue occurred. I did the download video trick by Pricebeat (upvoted), and got my subscription back. I would suggest buying just 1 month worth of app store code (after you manage to subscribe again) (which is what I did), and load that credit into your account, just in case all the work around don't work any more next month, so you won't lose out by paying for more credits that you might not be able to use later.

    I managed to set up a new Youtube Premium family by following the steps from @Thesinc (thank you!) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16790847/redir. Would work too for an individual plan.

    Didn't use a VPN at all and I only had one slight change to Step 4 from his instructions because I got the 'couldn't verify your country' error on Youtube. This was after I logged in and clicked subscribe to Premium (or whatever it is) in the settings.

    I got around this is by trying to download a video - as mentioned by @Pricebeat (thank you to you too!) - which I believe prompts it from the Apple side to bypass Youtube's location check to initiate the subscription.

    For any others trying to set up a family plan, you have to be the Family Manager of the Google Family to share it. I wasn't in my previous family setup, so we deleted the group and I created a new one to share premium with others.

  • Done the resub but wonder if this will work next month. I tried to do this with Strava Indian pricing and apple paid the money but Strava obviously blocked it on their side so the premium sub never came through. Would imagine YouTube would be using a similar system now.

    Hopefully someone’s renewing soon so we can all find out!

  • Mine got cancelled too. Did the apple store resubscribe method for premium family and it worked. However, the family manager account isn't showing as premium, but all the family members are working right away. In the Google account/ YouTube subscription page it shows inactive still. Any ideas?

    • Hi, @B-Moose, I had a similar issue but only I had access in the family. Everyone else, including the manager, couldn't get access. This was 2 days ago - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16999114/redir.

      We disbanded the family and made a new one with myself as the manager to get it to work. Not sure if that's feasible for you as I also know that you can only join a new family 12 months after you've left one.

      I didn't do extensive searching online but I'm pretty sure it says on Google somewhere that the family subscriber has to be the family manager.
