      • I recall there is one step where you need to add payment method - it asked you to choose the bank and there is a droplist and you can pick anyone of them it will work.

  • Thanks for this OP. Finally got deported from Turkey last night after they first said it would happen back at the end of last year. Back to India with this method. Cheers!

  • +2

Worked for me. Initially got stuck at the first step (creating Apple India ID) where it wouldn't verify with an AU mobile, but got around that by creating the new Apple ID through Apple Music (on a Windows PC using Edge) - for some reason when doing it that way, they don't try to verify via mobile. Then signed in to an old iPad wth that new Apple ID, purchased an Apple India gift card from Amazon India (using my Amazon AU account), loaded it into the App Store on my iPad, downloaded YouTube on that device and purchased Premium (pricing was provided in INR). At the last step when purchasing the YT subscription, Apple asked to add an Indian street address to my Apple account, which was easy to do - there was no verification

    • Thanks for sharing!
So does this method mean we have to repurchase the India gift card on Amazon every few months?
Also run the risk that if YT bans the Apple account, or bans this method, we lose the money on purchasing the gift card?

      • +1

Correct. My plan was to load up my Apple India account (via Amazon India) each quarter - too much hassle to do it monthly. And if for some reason this method stops working, the most I've lost is 3 months worth of Apple India gift cards - which is not very much

        • Hello sir, sorry one more question, I added some funds from Amazon India to my Apple account, but when purchasing YT Premium, although the pricing are in INR, I'm still asked to "Add Payment" with options of UPI or Net Banking, did that happen to you?

          • +1

@NothingButPoor: Yes it did. Can't remember which one I chose - UPI or Net Banking, but it simply then asked me to enter an Indian street address, which I did (no Indian bank account numbers needed)

  • thanks op, worked for me

  • My Family Premium got cancelled this morning. It was from Turkiye and YouTube said it is inaccurate. I have been using it over 3-4 year without any issue. :(

I was making payments with my Turkish CC and my brother uses it in Turkiye as part of family members but still they knocked it down.

    • +1

Must be a new round of crackdowns my Kazakhstan subscription has been cancelled today

      • I wonder would system allow me to enabled it from Turkiye again… Because they gave me a month to renew it so I can do this way.

        Enable
It gets cancelled but 1 month to renew
        Enable again
        Repeat monthly

      • Same here! I discovered some good music from Kazakhstan though

    • Sons of bitches

  • Thanks @Pricebeat, just did it and it works for me. One quesion here, after I subscribed it, can I logout my India Apple ID and log back in my Aus Apple ID? No need to login to my India Apple ID even when it comes to renew in a month time which it should automatically deducts it from my Wise account (I use Wise card) I think?

    • You will face the same problem as you need to utilise subscription via Apple Store/iTunes credit

That way YouTube cannot tell the country of origin for your credit card

      • Sorry I mean it deducts from my Apple Store credit via my Wise card

  • +1

Any solution or workaround for the following:
Your YouTube Premium membership was canceled because we believe the signup country of India was inaccurate.

If you want to maintain access, please sign up for YouTube Premium again within the next few weeks, otherwise your YouTube Premium benefits will end on May 25, 2025 and your plan will not renew automatically.

If you believe this was an error or if you’d like to share feedback with our team, please fill out this form.

To check the status of your membership and billing information, go to your Settings > Purchases and Memberships page.

I got the same email, even though I am using a local indian bank card for payment in the google family setting.

Keen to see if anyone has worked around this…

    • It is easy for Youtube to find out - as we always visit from Australian ip.

However, why they said "inaccurate", as we use an indian apple id? It is arguable.

Imaging someone relocate from Indian to Australia, so they have to change their apple ID?

    • Were you paying with Apple gift cards or with a credit card?

      • +1

        Indian local bank card.

Did not sign up in via Apple ID on an Apple device.
Instead used a Indian VPN to signup using a google account with an Indian address and local bank card

        • I think that might be the cause - vpn.

  • I'm really struggling with this.

Completed all the steps, logged in and go to try and new my membership but it will only offer me the individual membership rather than the family plan.

I've signed in on my family account so I'm not sure why it wont let me.

    Any help please?

Edit: looks like youtube has banned my account from having family memberships. I did the previous Pakistan and Algeria tricks with a VPN and it seems my account is restricted.

    • Just buy the individual membership then update it to family. I had to do the same thing.

      • No option for that either. I did some googling and it seems YouTube has put a block on certain accounts now that you can't add a family account through that way or by changing regions.

Spent a full day yesterday trying to get an Indian iTunes account with different account creation and phone errors, using all different devices. The following Reddit thread ended up working for me, using Firefox's Responsive Design Mode, which I guess sort of spoofs that I'm using an iPad.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleMusic/comments/1hc4zaf/cant_lo…

This one drove me a little nuts because I've been doing this sort of geolock/bypass sort of stuff for about 20 years. Once I got the account sorted, everything else was straight forward.

    • Did you try this via the apple music site or apple accounts?

Am still getting errors using the firefox method on both sites

      • I made an Australian account on music and then you have to setup 2FA when logging first time into the Apple account to change it over to India.

  • Ran out of credit. Subscription lapsed (normal)
I've now topped up. Anyone know how to manually trigger payment for renewal again? Or do I just leave it and it'll automatically try again?

    • It should be automatic by default.

      • Of course it is - but my question is when it LAPSES, you're saying it remains automatic? Which is also what I suspect

        I just wonder:
        a) whether it's possible to manually trigger it after I've topped up the account; and/or
        b) when does the "automatic" trigger take place? (realistically not really expecting answers to this - just in case anyone happens to know..)

        • Something similar happened to me. You need to go to youtube > settings > purchases and memberships and reactivate from there

  • I am unable to create new apple account ID. Tried creating it with 2 new emails with AU phone number on chrome browser on windows 11 machine. Tried both AU & India as country in form but its failing with all combinations with message "Your account cannot be created at this time". It reaches upto the point where it asks email code and then mobile phone code.Any advise pls?

  • +3

I had issues with creating an Apple account, tried multiple Emails, phones, using Apple music and it all failed.

Spun up a Mumbai AWS EC2 Instance and signed up with no issues and terminated once set up.

Can't quite work out why but they have some sort of geo-blocking on creating accounts in India.

    • Wouldn't you still need to keep the email or no issues to change it after?

  • For assistance, contact iTunes Support at www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww/.

Keep getting this error when trying to create Apple ID via Apple Music… Any ideas?

  • +1

not sure if it's just me or a crack down, my subscription just got cancelled.

    • +2

Are you sure you didn’t run out of iTunes credit ?

Who sent you an email? Apple or YouTube? And what did it say the reason ?

  • This doesn't work. When I log in with an Australian Gmail YouTube premium automatically showed Australian plans

  • Is the party over? My apple account has been cancelled and I can't create a new India account. Tried different numbers and different emails and VPN and it seems to always come with error after putting in the security code sent to the mobile

    • Keen to know if it's officially over?? Was about to try this method .. otherwise will head to g2g.com or gamsgo to get a shared subscription..

  • +3

Premium suddenly stopped working for me. Checked apple id settings and it asked for a billing address. Put in a fake address and was able to renew in YouTube app (apparently payment had failed a couple of days ago).

    • Same happened with me. Also wanted to get me to fill in some India specific payment details. I cancelled out of it and renewed through Youtube app.
I must have tried too many times for the single or shared option, so both glitched out on me and wouldnt let me select in the app. Had to resort to renewing with a family subscription.
Will have to set a reminder to keep adding India App Store gift cards before I run out of rupees on my India App Store account

    • Same, had to put in a fake address, cancel membership, then click "renew membership" through the apple app store/account settings/subscriptions page on iPhone, fingers crossed this payment method can go on for longer…

  • how do i top up my balance now?

I first did this I think back in December

  • +1

Confirmed this worked. It took me more than 30 minutes to do it since this was my first time.

I borrowed an old iPhone from a friend to complete the subscription then used the app on my Android phone.

  • -1

    Mine just got nuked???

    • How did you initially activate it? Did you try the iPhone method discussed above?

      • -1

Yes I did (I think so)

  • Sooo 6 months later of this method working just fine I now need to top up on apple gift cards to keep the subscription active however I can’t remember the burner email I used to setup my Indian Apple ID! Any tips on the best way to retrieve this? Thanks

  • +1

So I managed to get it back up and running. For some reason, the subscription just paused by itself, even though I had a credit left in the account. I just had to log in via iPhone, go into the media and purchases section, and resubscribe.

  • Can we re-use the existing apple id , switch it to india and follow the step 3? Or do i have to create a brand new Apple ID?

  • +1

Thanks OP just signed up without any issues. I was hesitant to use this method at first but then as I was setting it up I realised the India Apple ID account doesn't even need to be part of the Youtube family, its just simply used to pay for the subscription

  • Works! Only for monthly subscription :( India has an "annual" subscription but its not available from the iOS apps any more (hasn't since Nov 2024 it seems). But the 1490 rupees i loaded to that account should keep it renewing for about 10 months fingers crossed.

    • Used an old Apple ID that was setup as my "USA" account years ago
    • Updated that Apple ID to be Indian (changed the account location to a random Indian address from google maps)
    • Logged into the Apple App Store on my main iPhone with that Apple ID and deleted/downloaded YouTube. Then I logged into the YouTube app with the Google ID I normally use.
    • Used VPN and purchased App store gift cards from amazon.in (paid with Revolut in rupees)
    • Loaded the gift card to the Apple App Store
    • Went to the YouTube app and subscribed to Premium. The only options I had were Monthly Individual or Family. I went individual. It paid with Apple Pay using my Indian Apple ID (which doesn't have any other payment types linked). It used the App store credit.
    • Turned off VPN
    • Changed App Store back to my normal Apple ID (selected "keep subscription" when asked), deleted/downloaded YouTube again.
    • Voila! Works perfectly.
  • My secondary Apple account (with YT Premium Turkey subscription) looks to have been killed by Apple - the Premium sub expired despite having credit remaining, and I'm not able to access the secondary Apple account via Media and Purchases ("verification failed" with correct password) and get "Check the account information you entered and try again" when attempting to login at id.apple.com

I did a Forgot Password request via id.apple.com and got back a one line email a day later from Apple "We’ve reviewed your request, and access to your account has been denied"

This avenue may be getting closed down - can't be sure, but I haven't had any other activity on this Apple account other than this subscription.

    • +1

Same thing happened to me. RIP to the credit that was sitting on that account…

      • Yep seems like Apple are cracking down and cleaning these up

  • Just renewed using the same IND account I made 6-months back. Still works!

  • +1

Looks like this loophole is being shutdown folks. I've spent a couple evenings on this, and actually contacted both Apple and Google support directly to get answers. To summarise what happened to me:

    • My monthly renewal was successfully billed by Apple, but the next day I lost Premium despite successful billing.
    • Despite reactivating and even changing YouTube tiers with a VPN on my iOS device (as some said was successful for them), and even getting on-screen feedback of a successful resubscription within the YouTube app itself, the app just instantly reverts to non-Premium.
    • Google Support said their "system detects if you are there physically or using a VPN". This is the real kicker as it appears this check seems to be in the YouTube app itself. I was using SurfShark with their Camouflage Mode protocols/obfuscated servers, and it all seemed to be working fine by displaying prices within the app all in INR etc., but whatsmyipaddress.com still points out “Looks like you’re using a VPN”. So, I’m not sure if there is a way around this, unless someone knows of a VPN that can actually hide the fact you are using a VPN in India? And even if you did have that, I’m still not sure it would work once the VPN is turned off.

I made a fresh account last month for my parents, and I will be interested to see if that one renews properly next month or gets similarly shut out. That will reveal if this is site-wide or just a flag on my particular YT account.

Appreciate if anyone with long-standing Google accounts have found a new way around. Please share!

    • There shouldn't be any need for a VPN. I have never used one to claim this deal.

How to Get YouTube Premium (Working as of August 5, 2025)
    Requirements:
iPad or iPhone (preferably an older device you don't mind using for this)
    Burner email account

    Step-by-Step Process:
Step 1: Create Indian Apple ID

Use an iPad or iPhone (old device recommended)
Create a new Apple ID account with location set to India
Use a burner email (Gmail works well for this)

Step 2: Purchase Apple Gift Cards

    Go to Amazon India store
Buy Apple Gift Cards (2000 INR option is what I do)
    Complete the purchase

    Step 3: Redeem Gift Cards

On your Apple device, go to the App Store
Redeem the purchased Apple Gift Card
Funds will be added to your Indian Apple ID account

Step 4: Set Up YouTube Premium
    For First-Time Users:

Open YouTube app on the device
Log in with your main Gmail account (your regular, long-standing account)
Subscribe to YouTube Premium (it will use your Apple ID funds)

    For Returning Users:

    Open YouTube app
You'll see a popup asking to update billing details - ignore this
Swipe away the billing popup message
Go to YouTube Premium in the menu bar
    Reactivate your subscription
It will automatically use your Apple ID funds without requiring card details

"This mail is regarding your account. Our specialist team has determined that this profile must stay suspended due to violations of our Terms of Service. We’re unable to discuss the specific circumstances of this or any suspensions."

    Ooooooooooooo. 😂😅🤣

They won't explain why or anything.
It could be cause of this India thing? Who knows.

So my google account works, google one works, the YouTube India apple thing works, but they have suspended my 'payment profiles'..so I can't add any payment details, or update my cards or pay for anything google using wallet.

These morons are refusing my money. Whatevs.

    Strange company.

    • How were you paying for the subscription? A card or using Apple gift cards?

  • +3

Confirming, I have been using this setup since January - just had the 7th auto re-subscription successful. Payment taken from Apple account with INR balance (via gift card top ups).

Hopefully continues to keep rolling - thanks again Pricebeat

  • Thanks, this worked flawlessly. I wish we could use this method to pay for Netflix :(

  • My Indian Apple acc was permanently disabled yesterday, and I lost the funds in it

  • A question please: As a first step, I was setting up Google family. When one member tries to accept the invite, they get the error "Can't join family group: it looks like you're not in the same country as the person who invited you"…I am guessing this is because the member had a different country Google/Youtube account before that got cancelled. Are they OK to change it back to Australia (same as the inviter)….I want to be sure on this as I know you can only change the country once per year, and I want to make sure it doesn't need to be changed to India. Thanks

    • I vaguely recall having to do this too but was the other way around, family group admin had India as location and family members were all Australia so changed family group admin to Australia and everything was fine.

  • Will those of us using this method mean we won't be impacted come December when that stupid new esafety karen law comes into effect given they've now put youtube on the list (yet pawn sites arent blocked….) but hey "wont somebody think of the children"

  • Does this work If I cancel the current australian yt music subscription then convert it to a turkish one or do I need a new yt account?

  • Still works, thank you!!

  • Damn I been paying the full price for ages..

Before I go through the steps later today,
Do I need to create a brand new yt account? Or can use my family account I already have?

    • You can use the account you have

Well I changed from the turkey family account to Indian iTunes method and has been ok.

I few times iTunes blocked the account initially but it was released on review

  • It was good while it lasted. Apple ID inactivated, unable to enable - apple denied and their support won't do it either. Not sure I want to try again with another account….

    • I had mine for 6 months and its gone

  • +3

Email this morning about updated terms of service from Sept 26, included in the changes is:

    • Clarifying that your subscription access should be predominantly from the country where you signed up.
    • I see someone started a thread about it

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/920981

But that doesn’t explain why some comments are mentioning Apple disabling their accounts.

Whatever’s behind Apple’s action is separate to what YT will do in September.

      • Most of it is user error or abuse. I have had my 5 accounts (US, Uk, India etc.) from almost 8 years now. No issues whatsoever, I even run out of money on these accounts and simply log back in and top up.

  • Yeah, this is the significant change here:

In Section 9.2 (Primetime Content), it states:

"Any reported or reasonably suspected circumvention may result in termination of your subscription and/or Google account."

Now, the account I have is seperate from my main Google account, but this is playing with fire, will they cancel they extra account only, or everything?

Lol, let's find out, I'm sure someone in here will keep this going until they get burnt.

    • Yikes - it might be time for me to switch back and pay full price before new terms start 💩

    • Terminating the subscription is certainly inevitable. But cancelling the account feels like an extreme measure reserved for repeat offenders I suspect.

  • Got this today, hopefully doesn’t kill my India sub,

We are making these changes to improve clarity and transparency regarding your subscription, including:
    Clarifying our plan types.
Explaining our policies on promotional offers and accepted payment methods.
Clarifying that your subscription access should be predominantly from the country where you signed up.
Providing additional explanations and clarifications on our subscription policies.

  • Yep, got that email too…. just put $30AUD of credit over to my Indian account a week or so ago. Let see what happens

  • This morning I was trying to complete my 6 monthly gift card top up

    • Go to amazon
    • Buy the appropriate amount
    • Go to iPad, click Media and Purchases
    • Log into burner account (device is normally logged into my regular apple account)
    • Click on the balance, requires a notification to be sent to device
    • Get an error

Thinking about this, assumed it was because the device was not signed into my burner account. Log out of my apple account, try to log into my India account and now I am getting an error on this process.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Is it likely my account has been culled similar to comments in other posts or have people found a work around? My regret is I purchased the gift card first and didn’t check I could access the account.

  • Yup, got the email too, I'm just going to not response to it.

    • +1

I don't think they want a response. They will cancel accounts anyway.

      • They cancel the account or cancel the premium subscription?

        • Subscriptions. Unlikely to cancel accounts but technically they could.

  • +3

Got the email too - am wondering whether letting a YT playlist run overnight using a VPN set to India would offset daytime viewing from Aus and be enough to convince it that I'm "predominantly" using it there - even if it would be physically impossible to between the two locations in that time.

  • Ughhhh - got the email the other week as well and today cannot log into my Indian Apple account 😑 When selecting ‘forgot password’ is says the account is not active!

Got alerted when opening YouTube app just now and it said something like ‘this might be your last ad free video using YouTube premium’ or something.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

    1. Buy Apple gift cards from Amazon India(amazon.in) using your AU amazon account. Enter an Indian address (make sure indian address is selected) and use an international fee free card. Then load gift cards to your Apple ID.

It's been a while since I did this (last did this in December). Can anyone remember on the "load gift cards to your Apple ID" step, I assume this means the Apple ID account created in Step 1? How do I load it again?

    • I did it in the Apple Music desktop app.

  • I've got about 40 bucks sitting in itunes apple india account gift card balance, anyone trying to withdraw/do something with it in case of deacivated? I haven't got an email yet from apple…

Does anyone know how the apple subscription maps to your google account? Mine is a mess, my google account had an india and a turkey payment profile, I think my google family account was established when I was a "Turkey" resident but all my family members are Australia, now I have problems with everything like trying to renew Google One (turkey) - probably thinks I'm in India and also my family mismatch so causing me grief! Ah the joys of being an international roamer :D

  • -1

    Hi All,

Just wondering is this method still working?

  • hi All,
ive been using this method to success for last 8 months, still last week, my indian rupees ran out and had to repurchase however at the last step, after reloading the additional funds to my apple account, i log back into youtube app and go through memberships and purchases, clicked renew but then it pops up with AUD pricing and doesnt renew like how it use to previously.
    has anyone else experience this?
Is this a new change? Any ideas to get around it?

    • Any chance that you forget to turn on your vpn or the vpn not working correctly?

    • Actually its now working now, oddly
I had to log into youtube premium with same acct as where i had Apple store logged in and went to renew and it went through via IND rupees…
      not sure what happened there.

  • I'm thinking the reason we are getting this email is either partly (if not solely) because of the stupid esafety karen being extremely litigious & now youtube got added to the even stupider Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 laws coming into effect so they want to make sure they arent going to be getting inundated with fines etc…
