Apple India ID required. Buy gift cards from Amazon India

  1. Set up an Indian Apple ID using your AU mobile number to verify.

  2. Login into an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, using an Indian Apple ID by going to settings > Your name > Media and purchases.

  3. Buy Apple gift cards from Amazon India using your AU amazon account. Enter an Indian address (make sure indian address is selected) and use an international fee free card. Then load gift cards to your Apple ID.

  4. Open up Youtube app - head to account (right bottom corner) > settings (right top corner gear icon) > purchases and memberships

  5. Choose a plan of your liking

Set up google family before signing up to family account https://families.google/families/

    For anyone whos previous overseas membership with Youtube was ended via the email notice for January, did you add that same account as one of the family members for the new setup? I'm wondering if they will also cancel a family membership if a previous overseas family leader becomes a family member on a new overseas Youtube account?

    I'm thinking that this is probably all automated as a result of a report of checking on family accounts bought in another country, and not any actual ongoing human investigation.

      I was with YT India direct and missed the price rise email confirmation so got cancelled. I used the iTunes trick and re-signed up, same email same family nothing changed just magically starts to work like it never ended.

    Stuck Setting Up YouTube Premium (India) on iPad

    I’m trying to subscribe to YouTube Premium (Family Plan) for ₹389 INR using my Indian Apple ID. Here’s what happens:

    On the YouTube app, I select the family plan and hit Subscribe.
    It asks for my Indian Apple ID password, which I enter. I get a success message with the ding sound.
    Then, a popup appears saying: “This Apple account has not yet been used in the iTunes Store. Tap Review to sign in and review your account information.”
    When I tap Review, it takes me to a page where I need to complete my Apple ID setup. I enter a random Indian address, but it requires a payment method. The problem is, Apple Cards (which I’ve loaded with ₹1000 INR) isn’t an option. I don’t know how to add an acceptable Indian payment method to proceed.

    Any advice on how to get past this step?

      I had to go through Settings>Your Name>Media and Purchases.
      This seemed to work for me when I got stuck at the review step.

      Issue Resolved: Apple id payment section is asking another payment method 1. UPI ID. or 2. Local Indian bank.
      Use option 2 and select the first bank. Then enter fake Indian address.
      Then it worked for me.
      (Note i also deleted and reinstalled YT app on the iPad, not sure if that helped.

        I also have this problem. I tried your method of choosing option 2 (Net Banking) and the first bank (Axis Bank) or any other bank - all give the same error - Please contact iTunes support to complete this transaction.

        After a few attempts, I think my Apple account is now blocked. When I try to login, it says "Failed to verify your identity. Try again."

    I had a bit of trouble setting up the Apple account; I could not get the verification to work by email and/or phone. I contacted Apple, who helped to set me up.

    When I checked the details, I saw that my account country had been set to Australia. I changed countries to India in my account, and the rest of the sign-up and subscription worked fine. If you are having similar issues, it may be possible to set up an Australian Apple account and then change to India.

    Also, FYI, I am an Android user, so I purchased a used iPhone 6s off eBay for $56 to set up and manage this account. Hopefully this method lasts!

      The iPad/iPhone (Apple Device) is only needed to setup the payment gateway - aka for the YT subscription to be paid via the Apple account balance.

      Playing videos on YT can be done from anywhere - Android, Windows, media/TV box.

      Even loading funds into the Apple balance doesn't need an Apple device - you can do it using either the AppleTV or Apple Music app on a Windows PC.

      Apple device is only needed to setup that initial payment gateway for the YT subscription, and you only need to do this once. After that you can continually add funds via a Windows PC as described above, and you can watch YT anywhere on any device.

    My new Indian Apple ID - YT Premium is set to auto-renew tomorrow, fingers crossed all goes well, have enough for two months loaded up. Will report back once it rolls over to confirm outcome.

        Via Amazon India, paid with them using a new Wise card loaded with INR. Then used my email linked to apple ID as the recipient. I then redeemed them via Apple Music whilst logged into Indian Apple ID. Hopefully it renews, I got the email notification that the renewal is coming up a couple days ago.

    I caved into the difficulty and moved to Kazakhstan on Revolut CC. ~$15AUD, but no gift cards and superior potassium exports….. and my googles gets more O Kazakhstan music, because all the other countries are run by little girls. It stings more than being in India, but far less than being in the Netherlands or actually Australia…..
    I hope I don't bring shame because I'm a lazy OzBargainer…..

    Hi All, just wondering if anyone has encountered an email from apple saying billing problem.

    email definitely from apple. the email says update my payment details, checked my account and i do have enough funds for the next payment cycle. Anyone seen this before

    i noticed it says 'No Delivery Address Set Up' on one of the pages.

    is this important?

      I received the same email just now and when tapping Add Payment Details, I only have one option and it is to use UPI. I didn't get an option to select Netbanking like some others said they did.

      I'm hoping my renewal processes in 2 weeks time when it is due as I have enough App Store credit in the account

          I just ignored the email and the renewal went through as usual. Since then there has also been 1 other successful renewal and I have topped up some more App Store credit (I do about 3 months worth at a time)

    I'm pretty stuck, trying to add more credit to the account, renewal is not too long away and my account has zero credit.

    On my iPhone, it keeps asking me for either a UPI or Netbanking, I just selected Netbanking and selected Axis Bank and entered a fake address.

    When I select to Add Funds to Apple Account it keep taking me to add funds via. Netbank. When I try to Manage Payments, it give me no other payment methods aside from UPI and Net Banking.

    Logging in on Windows to Apple Music and trying to redeem the Amazon-purchased code via. Redeem Promotional Code in Account Settings give me a 'Cannot Redeem Code'.

    Any suggestions from anyone?

      Okay so I resolved this by going to the App Store on my iPhone and selecting to redeem a gift card and doing it all through there. Probably could have just done that in the first place and skipped all of this UPI/Netbanking stuff.

      Have not figured out a way to redeem the giftcard just purely on a Windows Desktop however.

    I've been using this method successfully. But this month, my Indian Apple ID now wants an updated payment method. It appears to have still taken the credit from my Apple ID, but not completed the transaction and i don't have access to YT Premium.

    Worked for me, but this method is not ideal because Apple could lock your account with prepaid funds at anytime. Plus you need to top it up every couple months. That said I want to give a big middle finger to Google wanting $30+ per month for family premium.

    Looks like I let my Apple India account balance fall below the amount required to pay for my Youtube Premium and the account has been paused.
    I've successfully purchased more Apple India credit and applied it to the account but when I ask to reactivate my YT Premium account, it has the Renew button under the 389rupee heading, but when I press it, it redirects me to a page asking to renew at the full AUD prices.
    Anyone know how to fix this?

    Am now trying to sign up using iTunes cards via Turkey using following guide:

      Try creating your account via Apple Music via VPN

      then when you sign in, you need to utilise a SIM card, I have a second old number I used, I tried without a sim on iPad and could never get it to verify.

      Once verified my account was suspended and I had to email Apple to unlock my account.

      They took about 36 hours and unlocked the account and I’ve signed up via App Store for premium via India

    Is this still working for people? I was up for renewal after using up my 3 months worth of indian credit and it kept giving me Australian pricing after following the OP steps again. I ended up getting it to work by using a vpn at the same time. fingers crossed i dont get banned

    Was riding the Argentinian gauntlet for the last 6 months, kept updating the payment method after the monthly emails and nothing would get cancelled, finally ended this month.

    Instructions worked a charm, except I had to buy an old iPhone 7 to get this done as we are an android house.

    Here's hoping for many more years of cheap YouTube.

    Thanks OP. Argentina membership expired two days ago and joined Indian family today! Not very smooth but manageable. A couple of tricky points,

    When generating the indian apple id, I had to go to the apple music - it bypass some kind of checks and it checks whether the apple id exists in the system and if not, it will allow you to create a new one. Since I had issues with gmail, so I use proton mail instead.

    When renewing membership from youtube app, it requires indian address associated with the apple id. Because i did not add anything while creating the apple id via apple music, I had some trouble here as it came forward and backward between youtube app and the payment method stuff. The solution is to add a fake indian address and chose a random netbank as payment method, and then go to the youtube app to renew or join the membership.

      I’ve tried adding a disposable Revolut card but no good.

        I recall there is one step where you need to add payment method - it asked you to choose the bank and there is a droplist and you can pick anyone of them it will work.
