Edit: AU plug is out of stock. You can buy the others and use your own figure 8 cable.

On sale is this multiport GaN charger that packs a lot of punch for it's price. It features 4 USB-C ports with Power Delivery PPS with a single port capable of providing 100W, while two USB-C ports will provide 65W and 45W at the same time and an additional two fast charging USB-A ports. Making it a good choice for charging laptops, phones, tablets, power banks, handheld game consoles and more at the same time.

The charger has a small display showing the current output in watts and includes an AU plug figure 8 cable. In my experience this charger doesn't result in touchscreen unresponsive like you would find in other cheaper chargers and overall performs fast charging perfectly fine.

Plus you can stack this deal with Cashback 20% cashback at TopCashback for further savings.

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD

Does the output of the charger reset when you unplug or plug in a new device?

    • +3

      Yes

    • +18

You'll struggle to find a charger that doesn't do it. The charger needs to re-negotiate the power that each device can draw if the number of devices change. It's certainly not a requirement under the PD spec but it's easier and safer to implement than implementing a method that does not need to reset after each plug/unplug.

      • +7

The 200W UGREEN charger doesn't reset as long as you don't plug in more than 2 devices at the same time. It's the only charger I own and know of that does it though.

      • Acefast Z4

        • +2

Oh yeah I can name half a dozen chargers that don't reset and over a hundred chargers that do. That's my point ;)

      • +1

        This!

If you want a charger that doesn't renegotiate with each connect/disconnect, then your best bet is to get separate chargers for each device.

    • +3

I wish it was easier to find one that didn't reset as I have several devices that don't have batteries (e.g. router, raspberry pi).

      • +4

It's probably better to just get a solid DC Jack power supply or single port charger for those. I was worried I'd end up popping the old phone charger that runs my pi 4 by now, but it hasn't given up yet…

Which is kind of why I'm avoiding the rpi5, with its somewhat uncommon power supply requirements. (Maybe I can get a CM5 and a carrier board with more common requirements in the next future instead. Although I don't really need the performance.)

      • .. then put a small power bank in the middle for those ones.

  • +2

Anyone actually got one of these? Is this brand better or worse than heymix?

    • Very good

    • +2

heymix is such a low bar to beat.

  • +17

Undoubtedly one of the best and cheapest gan chargers out there on AliExpress.

Well done on sharing the deal clear !!

Also anyone wondering if uses standard IEC 2 pin connector, hence if you got that cable already then you can just buy to cheaper US plug version.

I wanted to share this before also but didn't think it would have gone popular like other AliExpress posts

Clear may be also highlight the fact that it has capability of 2 USB C being 45W. (I.E. 2 laptops easily at same time)

  • Bought, will let you know how it goes

  • +1

This is…pretty cheap for a 175W charger. What's the catch?

    • +2

Pretty common price on aliexpress for these is arousn 35 to 50. I have a asometech 140w and asometech 260w and both have been running perfectly for a year, $37 and $69 respectively

      • +1

I'm using a 120W Asometech myself and same experience. No issues.

      • +2

I have 140w asometech and 140w toocki previously. Both died within 6 months. The QA is very dicey. You probably got lucky.

I now use a Ugreen 100w charger and that one has been going on for quite a while.

    • +17

Tempting, but for a high power charger that stays plugged in 24x7 unattended, I'll stick to slightly more known brands.

I've come across two separate GaN chargers which were dangerous, would prefer not to encounter a third.

      • +2

How were they dangerous and what brands were they?

        • +15

One was an early Kickstarter- Hyperjuice. After it was released, there were too many reports of it killing devices for me to trust it, so I just used it to power an RPi. Then months later when I went to check it, half the ports were dead and it was running around 60C. I didn't take it apart, but I assume that caps are on the PCBs, and caps are going to die fast if even the external case temps are that high.

The other was a Maxpower(?) which was sold in reputable brick and mortar stores in Asia. Used by a friend of my kid for his laptop. One day I discovered that the casing was breaking apart, exposing live AC connectors. The kid was too young to have realised how dangerous it was, so I bought him a proper laptop charger and showed the busted one to his parents with a "please only buy proper laptop for your laptops."

So nowdays it's either "known brands with a good rep" or "someone who knows their shit has taken one apart, analysed it and reported on it." I don't rely on "it's great, I've had one unit for 2 weeks!!" feedback. Most Heymix owners are probably happy, I still won't buy one.

          • -3

@rumblytangara: Both cases are caused by high temperature. Having over 100 degrees is normal for GaN chargers, so, unfortunately, eventually most of them will die like that. If your device has more than one charging port, it's always more reliable to use non-usbc one.

            • +7

@Ozzster: Having an outer case which is too hot to touch is not normal for a charger, nor is casing that disintegrates within six months.

For the broken casing, it was unlikely to be heat related as the breakage was around the power prongs and not the main charger body. It could have been roughly treated but I knew the usage patterns- it basically stayed at home most the time.

              • -3

@rumblytangara: Nowhere I talked about outer case, this is not what I said. 100 degrees is normal for the inside. Please, ask before saying something that you misunderstood.

What I have seen is that psu works well until a combination of already warm device and physical pressure. For example, user pulled cable and dropped the warm charger. Because it was warm, internal soldering and casing were more soft than normal, and that insignificant fall or pressure becomes enough to move the internal components or touch them by the case or each other. The device does not die right away, but point of internal contact becomes constantly overheated and if it was plastic it melts, if caps they overheat and cranks die, and so on.

                • +1

@Ozzster: I didn't downvote you, if that's what cause you to go full pedant. But if it makes you happy, I can do so…?

          • @rumblytangara: Interesting - which Hyperjuice was it? The "world's first & smallest 100W GAN charger" or the "stackable 65W/100W GAN charger" ones?

I have one of those "first & smallest" ones. Only ever used it a couple of times.

I read about lots of dead ports, but hadnt seen mention of frying devices!

I guess I will continue to not use it! Lol

            Cheers.

            • +1

@caprimulgus: It was years ago so I don't know the model name. It was their first or second Kickstarter when GaN was an emerging technology.

White casing, not 'stackable' whatever that means. The 'first/smallest' line was familiar but I don't know how many products they have these days. I bought into the Kickstarter because anker hadn't released GaN yet.

There is or was a user here called Smooth Cactus who did some teardowns and seemed to know his stuff. He made some recommendations that seemed trustworthy, so I've gone with those, or just use single port OEM laptop chargers. Fast charging is quick enough that I don't need 5 or 6 simultaneous charging ports on a giant desktop charger. Still, this deal was pretty tempting just for laughs, but then memories of 'yeah that Hyperjuice could have caught fire' or 'that kid coulda died' kicked in.

              • +2

@rumblytangara: Yeah, that would be the "first & smallest" one then, the same as I have!

The stackable one was literally that: you could plug them into each other to make a modular stack with increasing number of ports. This stackable one, from what i read, was recalled due to being unsafe - which is not surprising, as stacking multiple together would be running multiple times the load throught the single socket (like piggybacking powerboards)!

                • +1

@caprimulgus: Wow, I had to look up the stackable ones and WTF were they thinking?

Stupidest charging idea ever- cramming lots of low surface area heat generation boxes on top of each other, and most of them would have had those dual-vertical US prongs which make for very unreliable droopy electrical connections. Flat out dangerous.

The Hyperjuice Kickstarter was so badly run that I lost all trust with the company and ignored anything after the first campaign. I'm surprised they still exist, but looked up their website now and they are still spinning the same style of PR.

                  • @rumblytangara: They have a few mm inside, holes for the air, and a few mm outside between each other. Nothing critical. I would be more concerned about cooling if the holes will be dirty.

      • +1

Whilst I don't trust many unbranded Chinese made items, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Only time will tell, I guess.
There goes my $30 in time of cost living crisis.

      • If I'm not charging anything, I'd turn it off at the wall. Would that make it safer?
Or does it overheat during charging as well?
The most I'd be charging, is my son's small laptop and 2 phones at once.

    • +6

If a higher price makes it more reassuring you can buy it via this link on the same listing for US$60.72 before discounts.

The link in OP is a Super Deals link which as the name suggests…. is a super deal!

    • I guess I'd not expect a high quality design and components used, so the safety may be questionable.
Safety wise, it's better to stick to more known brands. This one may work well or may burn something, chance of burning something usually is smaller with more known brands.

  • Not getting the US$19.74 price..?

  • +1

is there a way to turn off the display? it would be very annoying in a dark room. I suppose duct tape would be the last resort, but taking it on and off would be a pain.

    • So dont take the duct tape off…
Or paint it black permanently hehe

      • but what if during the day I want to see the voltage

        • First world class problem eh…

        • +3

Cover the display with an LCD screen that goes black when powered by an Arduino, program the Arduino to activate the screen according to input from an ambient light sensor, and power the Arduino from the charger.

First world solution to first world problem.

PS: It's not going to show voltage, it's going to be showing wattage.

    • +1

stick some blu tack on it

  • Has it increased? Unable to get US$19.74

    • So following the link in OP what's the USD price?

      • +2

        US $24.19 inc. GST

        • +1

And the URL definitely has the ?sourceType=561 at the end that makes the price a Super Deals price? No VPN or anything changing your location?

          • @Clear: It didn't appear to show ?sourceType=561 but I got it at US$19.74 now!

            • @dingdong3000: I'm still getting $24.19, what did you change?

              • +1

@klef: Copy and paste this where you have signed into Aliexpress

              • @klef: Same thing was happening to me until I switched to a different AliExpress account, where it then changed to the lower price seen in this post.

                • @Zilch: Yeah strange, I ended up buying on mobile through the app which got me the lower price.

    • Just bought one at us19.74

  • single port capable of providing 100W, while two USB-C ports will provide 65W and 45W at the same time.

Question: if i plug 2 cables but only 1 cable connected to a laptop for example will the carger gives 100w or 65w? Ie. Will the charger sees just cable plug and renegociate doesnt matter if nonpower get drawn from it?

    • +1

If you plug in two cables and only one is connected to a device then it'll draw up to 100W on the single USB-C port. As there's no second device to make a handshake with the charger.

      • Ah thanks. Because i will have 6 cables always plug in, but probably just using one cable at a time to charge something

    • +4

Usually these things will ignore cables that aren't plugged into anything as there is no power draw to negotiate.

But… not all cables are passive. I recently learned that Apple watch and lightning cables are active and negotiate power even with nothing connected.
This steps down other cables from 100W to 65W or whatever your charger does

      • The good is this has display so we can see wattages? Or thats what i guess.

        • Yea it would be very handy if that shows that info. It depends how it's displayed though.
If it's just the total available, then you may now know, eg if it's 100W or 65W+35W

On a Macbook, it's possible to see the available power in the system info. This is how I discovered the power was lower than expected

  • +2

Looks like TC still has 15% cashback

  • I don't know why but having trouble making payment with PayPal

  • +1

Bought one a while ago for similar price and returned it. Wasn't feeding sufficient power through to the device, got the zyron brick from a deal here instead and it's been great. Maybe mine was faulty who knows.

    • My Zyron died after 1 week usage. Returned too. Guess I wasn't lucky.

  • +1

Got the Ugreen 200w charger from Amazon yesterday with topcashback 20% cashback. Have been very happy with Ugreen and don't think will buy / need to buy other chargers for sometime !!

  • Will it explode on my table?

    • Maybe if you hit it repeatedly with a hammer.

  • How are you all getting the US price? I'm getting AU$33,- ?

    • Uh oh, did you not read the post?

      • -1

        Errrrr yeah I did.
I've not purchased anything from Aliexpress before.
I'm sorry I'm not as tech savvy as you are.
Thanks for the attitude, though. Have a great weekend.

        • Change currency to USD in the top right.

However I can't seem to get the US$19.74 price either. Seeing US$19.98 but the moment I log in Ali jacks the price up to $22.08, then manually add a coupon for -$3, but then $2.21 tax is applied for total of $21.29

          • @meeeeeeee: Make sure you're following the link in my deal. At the end of the URL after .html is sourceType=561 and that makes it a Super Deal price. If you want cashback just click on my link, add to the cart and then go through the cashback provider.

            • @Clear: Yep, done that, price displayed $22.21, after clicking add to cart is $21.43

edit: same price whether or not going through deal link or topcashback

              edit2: https://imgur.com/a/doDi95p

        • Clear always puts the instructions for getting the price at the end of the post.

        • +1

I'm sorry I'm not as tech savvy as you are.

          Just follow the Clear instructions

  • I only get 33 Aussie dollars and 21 USD. Guess my visa is charging me conversion costs.

I'll just keep an eye out for any reasonable Zyron, Ugreen or Anker deals

      • Thanks for the post, not sure if I missed any your instruction but getting the same 21 USD, anyway only few dollars extra.

        • Have you made orders before?

          • @Clear: I only made a few orders in AliExpress before but first time try to switch using USD and pay with Paypal with USD currency.

  • +1

Decent unit but the display on my unit stopped working after 2 weeks and when i checked the top of the display, it was a bit hot maybe that damaged the display.

  • +1

I paid $840 in 2022. Due to expire in 2026.
So I won't buy this, but just wait. Great price, thanks Op.

I had to pay extra for my dsg service. In fact, I had to book in separately just for that. It was $720 and took the whole day.
The Oil was $200 and the filter was $120.

    • +7

      Wrong thread mate

      • +11

Damn the maintenance costs of these things seem ridiculous for just 6 ports

        • +1

It’s the maintenance cost on the fart tune.

  • If you click through a cashback site, then copy paste this url, do you get cashback?

No. Add this to the cart and then click through cashback and checkout. I've had no issues adding what I want minutes before going though cashback.
