NOD32 Free Beta until Full Release Candidate

160

NOD32 4.0 is in it's first beta, and NOD32 are letting anyone test it completely free of charge until the release. This includes full updates for virus definitions and everything.

In my own experience, NOD32 has always been the most lightweight anti-virus on the market.

Note: I don't condone using beta software for everyday use, however, I have not had a single crash since I've been using it. Your mileage may vary.

  • nod32 is a fantastic product, but i dont think i would use beta anti virus software. good find tho.

  • And just an add-on to this, I'm at system idle right now and NOD32 is only using 4,320K mem, where other products hintNorton, McAfee, etc.hint use >20,000K in idle.

    • in all fairness, you're probably looking at "egui.exe" which is the user interface used to configure it
"ekrn.exe" is the service which keeps your system safe, and for me its running at 35,000k +

but it is an awesome peice of software
you dont even feel that its there until it pops up telling you that something is unsafe

      • “ekrn.exe” is the service which keeps your system safe, and for me its running at 35,000k +

That's still not too bad. AVG Free version 8 for comparison:

        • avgrsx.exe: 57,980 K
        • avgtray.exe: 748 K
        • avgwdsvc.exe: 1,364 K
  • nod32 is the greatest! The more people using this the better the internet will be

  • Plus vote because Nod32 is all WIN :D

But do consider the above points first.

  • nod32 is good, but I wont take the risk of its 1st beta version

  • Yeah, I agree with all the points above. Beta is good for testing the final product, but as with all betas the risk is there.

Having said that, I am also a long-time NOD32 user and am happy to endorse this on that basis as well.

This beta is worth trying as a preview if you have never tried NOD32 before. Just don't rely on it as your primary means of defence while it's still in beta…

  • 15 positive votes? Why beta test Windows anti-virus software when there are free and proven alternatives out there? I won't vote negative — but seriously — this is a commercial product; are there really supporters out there? Or do I smell astroturf?

    • You really think 15 members, and those of us who have commented as part of an astroturf campaign? Do you even know what Nod32 is and how it compares to other anti virus softwares?

      • I have no idea how it compares to other virus software; however I read more here:
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nod32
It is cross platform and made by a small Slovak company. ESET was started in 1992; version 3.0 of nod32 November 2007. Version 4.0 is the current beta. If they had a free version, I might recommend it (like Avast! and AVG) — however recommending a beta non-free anti-virus software? Seriously?

  • Those who know (how good NOD32 is !) will know ..for others who don't, let's not bother educating them .

  • nod32 is no good for spyware… wont even detect most of it.

    seems good for viruses though.
