  • Is it only for Victoria? Not for other Aldi stores?

  • its an opening special at the SUNSHINE store in VICTORIA
so only valid for that location

  • gosh, i'd love one…

  • Anyone has tried Medion laptop. Their products usually much cheaper than the other brands, just not so sure about the quality.

    • I bought a 17" Medion laptop a couple years ago from Aldi - still going strong, I use it almost daily.

Only issue is battery - used to last for 2 hours, now just 1 hour if lucky. I will have to look into replacements as mentioned in thread further down…

  • damnit i want to buy one even thugh i already have a wind lol

    $399 is a steal!

maybe we can get a price match?

  • oh i want one too! Just need to find a bargain flight to victoria first :)

  • -1

I don't need a cheap flight, may be a bike ride.
Is it the lowest price on the 10 inch mini?
I am going there to buy one for myself.
    Thanks for the post.

we bought one from aldi for the wife to check email and do banking at $599 and is a great little computer. the 160GB drive can do lots more than a small solid state drive. has webcam, bluetooth, usb port, memory card reader, VGA output socket, wifi etc. we had a new aldi store opened in sunnybank hills last thursday, but no launch special. Would buy one at $399 instantly for myself.

    • vga output too! That's impressive :)

  • Good stuff but I think it is a new store and it is not open yet!

  • +2

gonna ask my local aldi to price match lol! will report bak

i found this on the aldi site

you'll always pay the same at ALDI
At ALDI our ‘smarter shopping’ philosophy helps to ensure we deliver customer focused initiatives, that give you unrivalled value for money.

ALDI National PricingTM*, one price for all stores - now that’s smarter shopping.

*excluding fresh fruit, vegetables and regional bakery lines

    :)

    • can someone say dell vostro??? good luck

    • Great find neosin! I am pretty sure netbook is not part of "fresh fruit, vegetables and regional bakery lines" :)

  • The Southland store opens next Thursday.
I'm hoping that they have this special there but I doubt it since the Aldi is in a shopping centre.

  • jesus thats a good price

  • I think the same price guarantee is for normal supermarket items such as foodstuffs.

I've seen these at $499 at Aldi around the place, but not as cheap as $399. The original price was $599 as has been said before, but Aldi tends to drop the price on goods not sold soon enough and then does it again if necessary to move them.

So, yes $499 tempted me and $399 would be a far greater temptation!

doesn't say jill about not matching electronics

      • Yes, but it's clearly a launch special. I would be glad to hear of a price match though, but I wouldn't expect it in this case.

Here's a link to the original fuller description of the product:

  • Please report back on the pricematch!

Auburn store had a opening on Thursday but they didn't have it on special for $399! It was ticketed as $599!

  • This just might warrant the trip to Sunshine (and potential to be shot at by gangs)

    • Gangs- are they the real bargain hunters ?

    • HAHAHAH LOL

  • Any comments on its battery life?

  • anyone did the price matching yet? cant wait to spend my 399$ !! lol

  • the wife just called from aldi. she said the aldi staff told her when this new store opened last week, they had stock, but is all sold out. I can't confirm if they were sold at $399 or $599. When we were in the store on the weekend, the netbook was on display at $599. Apparently the machine in the display is now gone :) Going to keep an eye open for the next store opening in Brisbane. Anybody know where?

    • I thought the store opens on th 18th?

      lol!

the store guy that told her is full of poop :P

  • Failed.. just came back from Aldi Auburn.. was told that the special is for that particular store only…

Even though Aldi Auburn just opened last Thursday!

The Assistant Manager did try to help me.. what a nice bloke!

  • PRICE MATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Which store?

  • Can somebody whom has one of these let us know if the battery is a 3 cell or a 6 cell one please?

  • It would be a 3 cell.. Only the U100 comes with 6 cell..

    • Why wouldn't the Aldi model possibly have a 6 cell battery??? Doesn't somebody know for sure?

      • just buy an msi wind 6 cell from ebay, works fine on the medion .

        • You can find 9-cell for MSI U100 from ebay as well.
But the weight of the battery might make MSI U100 a 2KG laptop - the weight is not attractive any more.

          • @tg: Okay, here's an idea….. stick with the standard battery and re-charge with my Tevion portable battery [1] as required.

I actually picked up a bunch of these cheap (discounted later too). They are 8800 mAh, which is greater than the 9 cell batteries at just 6600 mAh ;)

            [1] http://www.unisupport.net/lang/au/portable_battery_pack.html

            • @affinity: and how much does it cost? weigh?

              • @neosin: They were $99 originally, I picked them up at $39 each at the best price [got some at $79 as well]. Here are the specifications, including the weight:

                A. Specifications:

                Description: Portable Battery Pack

                & Max. Current: DC3.3V 600mAh
                DC 5V 600mAh
                DC 6V 600mAh
                DC7.5V 2000mAh

                DC 16V 4000mAh
                Input AC Voltage: 100-240V 50/60HZ

                • @affinity: Not sure if the voltage / mAh ratio will work out that good, so perhaps a real MSI 9 cell battery would be better ?

  • Does anyone try to contact the Medion Tech support? I have given the number by ALDI but there was no one answering the call. - ONLY the answering machine? I have been told that the Medion office is in Sydney only service agent in Melbourne. I am abit concert the after sales support for Medion! Can anyone give me some feedback? :)

    • MSI got better customer support than Medion.
If you are in Sydney, you can pop up into their office at Auburn.

  • do they sell it in sydney?

  • Can anyone confirm Aldi is opening at Sunshine VIC on Thursday 18th Dec?

  • i might check this out tomorrow. how much is this normally worth?

    • "How much is this normally worth?" is a loaded question. They originally sold for $599. SOME stores around the country discounted them to $499 after a couple of weeks. How much it is WORTH though is up for debate.

The $399 does seem like a bargain, but it depends on whether you're going to be near Sunshine, whether they have enough stock, and whether you'd prefer the extremely-similar MSI Wind (which can be bought with 2GB ram to Aldi's 1GB, a 6-cell battery to Aldi's 3-cell, but by all accounts a dodgier touchpad than the Aldi offering) …

      • yeah aldi sunshine is pretty much across the road for me thats why i was thinking of getting one but i really have no use for it. hopefully i can think of something to use this for by tomorrow before i head into aldi

      • Why are you so bitter against this bargain for??

You do realise the only difference between the MSI Wind and the U100 is just the badge right?
When the wind was announced ages ago, this was the first to rebadge them. Both units come with either a 6 or 3 cell battery, both can be upgraded to 2gb and both have that weird touchpad…

This is a bargain NO QUESTION! You will be lucky to find these or the similar eee (same spec's practically) for less then $575… I'm thinking the misses better like her xmas pressie.

  • a friend tried to grab one for me but they were sold out. they had 50 in stock. someone in front of him bought 8 :[

    • hey i just got one, using it right now. its better than i expected. yeah people were buying like 5 each…aldi should have put a limit on it. i got one while they were bringing em out from the store room. they are kept at the front registers, u HAVE to ask for it now once u get to the registers and hope they still have some left. otherwise they had alot of those 99 dollar tevion gps systems also at the registers. thought wen i exited there was like a 20 metre line to enter the store and anuda 25 min wait in the line to buy.

      • Was this in the Southland store? I saw everyone carrying only one or two..

        • i dont think so, i was at sunshine. maybe southland had a price match

  • tis a bummer. I was really keen.

if anyone hears of another Aldi opening, let me know…? :)

  • Playing with mine, and have notice there is a bright pixel on the screen.

Overall, this is a great little machine.

  • so tempting heh

  • Get this. I contacted the Technical Support and found out that they don't have service centre for notebook in Melbourne. Everything get send to NSW and it could take upto 20 working days to fix it…….

I have been told MSI makes the Medion E1210 but it is not = to the wind U100!

  • Finally my one hour wait in the queue paid off. I got the 3rd one from the last, and I saw the last two go as well.
I liked it so much, also bought the GPS for only $99.
Hope they open new stores and offer us some bargains again.

  • How did everyone pay for this?
'Coz ALDI just took in $20,000 in Medion sales alone!
Sunshine is not the safest place as pointed out by:
    zhenjie on 15/12/2008 - 09:55 ¶
This just might warrant the trip to Sunshine (and potential to be shot at by gangs)

  • yeah that's dodgy for aldi not limiting the purchase. and I can't believe someone would drop 3 grand on like 8-10 units of this!

    • resell for a tidy profit.

  • I have been told there will be more stocks to come but they could not confirm the day and times. Can someone please confirm on that?

  • Why it comes with PowerDVD 7 software when it has NO CD/DVD drive?

    • haha, i wondered about that as well

      • yeah that was bit weird but wat i did to install programs that were on cd, was just use the network and use the cd-rom drive on my desktop computer

  • Thanks, faifai. Got 100+ people there today.
the netbook looks great for that price.

  • GOD DARNIT!!

I went to my local store at homebush and they didn't even stockthe damn laptop lol!

  • Good little netbook with shocking Battery life. I can only managed to get 1 hour and 40min after fully charged. Now I have to looking for an extra battery or a bigger battery.

  • Any chance any of these left??
