Pioneer VSX-527 now $396 from JB Hi-Fi, 43% ($301) off

80

Firstly, kudos where kudos is due, this was picked off the JB 30% off post by Gecko. Him and his buddy have put together an awesome scraper, detailing all the price changes in JB HiFi. After a little perusing, I saw this Pioneer receiver on special.

Been keeping an eye out ever since I purchased the Jamo speaker set posted earlier this month. Just thought I'd list this receiver seperately, as I think many other people who jumped on the Jamo deal missed out on the earlier 30% off special at JB HiFi.

Heaps of other specials, so go check out the original post by Gecko!

why would you buy this outdated receiver..? when you could get the best in class Pioneer VSX-1022 just for US$249.00 from Amazon?(you need some one from US to ship it to Aus,as Amazon won't ship this to Aus)

Well… several issues. Firstly, a very brief 3min search on Google, and I already have a bad vibe for about the VSX-1022… way too many people have issues; its overall features and lack of attention to detail (e.g. can't label channels) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Lots of people in the US seem to have bought it for $250 by price matching at a brick and mortar, and then returning it either the same day, or really soon after.

Secondly, as you mention yourself, Amazon isn't shipping it here. Getting "some one from US to ship it to Aus" isn't really good enough. Could I argue that I have family in HK, and that I can get them to ship me a receiver from there and post that as a bargain? Not really. And hunting for a freight forwarder is quite a large task in and of itself.

  • Nice receiver and a good price for one. Does the job beautifully, as long as you don't want to use devices that have a composite or component connection. My main gripes with it are the awful remote control and the dodgy way that the HDMI pass-thru works (or often, doesn't work). It's a bit funny when hooked up to some devices too, such as a Toshiba Regza TV, which seems to want to turn the receiver off all the time. Oh and there's no "B speaker" zone, so no use to you if you want speakers on your verandah. ;)

  • Merry Xmas to All,

I have an existing Panasonic Blu-Ray home theatre setup and I'm looking to enhance the sound with an amplifier. I would rather not change the speakers, is it possible to use the existing panasonic speakers with this Pioneer ?

Below is the rear of my existing Panasonic using the speakers which are not RCA cables.

The speakers themselves never use RCA connectors anyway. But if you want to keep using your speakers, you'd have to cut off the proprietary connector, and then strip away about an inch or two of the plastic insulator off the end of the wires. Then you can hook the speakers up to any regular old receiver/amp.

Correction: Upon second inspection, no you probably can't use these speakers. The impedence of your speakers is 3 Ohms, whereas most HT speakers (an by extension, receivers) you get outside of a kit such as yours range between 6-12 Ohms.

      • Noted. Thankyou for your advice.

        • I've used 3ohms imp. on amps which only range between 6-12ohms.

It still works perfectly, just don't attempt to jack up the audio, or you may cause permanent damage and burn out on the speakers.
