Someone in commercial finance accounting should know not to be so vague. Being precise is half the job description.

We know nothing about you, your skills/ability or ambitions. Do you want gig roles like Uber or Amazon Flex? Do you want an interim job with a company? Do you want a career change? Why not focus on getting a suitable job and enjoy the downtime of the redundnacy (hopefully it came with a fat payout).

    • +1

      not to be so vague

He's not being vague; he's just bashful - you know, looking at his shoes as opposed to yours…

    • The punctuation and wording of the title is imo also horrible. My suggestion is: keep away from jobs that requires writing coherent sentences.

      • +2

"My suggestion is", is not a coherent sentence. Awwwkward.

You can use a colon to connect two sentences when the second sentence summarizes, sharpens, or explains the first. Both sentences should be complete, and their content should be very closely related. Note that if you use colons this way too often, it can break up the flow of your writing.

    How are your feet?

    • +3

Also OP how are your knees?

    • +1

      Also, armpit pictures?

      • Joining a cariachi band as the dude who does arm pit farts?

        • Don't do this, I don't want to lose my job …..

      • Put the feet, knees and armpit pics on OnlyFans, problem solved!

        • I think there is a fetish market for "used and abused" sandshoes and similar.

eBay USA used to heavily moderate listing for used shoes…

Found this out when I listed a near new pair of Nike on eBay Au. Looked new but I had worn them a few times, so listed them as used.

Bunch of messages asking me for things such as pictures of my feet whilst wearing the shoes to "do you have a used and unwashed socks". Kinda messages.

I had no idea what that was all about until I mentioned it in passing to another eBay seller and they explained things to me.

    • very pertinent question in terms of ways to make money

  • +8

if you have a car, lot of options. uber/ uber eats. taxi services or food delivery

    • +5

Don’t forget that you’ll need to notify your insurance company, which I’m guessing a lot of people don’t do

      • -5

I don't remember that this was a question when I last applied for an insurance for a new car (about a year ago). It is probably still buried somewhere there in the terms and conditions, that you'll need to notify. But no wonder a lot of people miss it.

        • +24

The use of the car - personal/commuting vs commercial is one of the first questions every insurer asks, typically.

          • @Waspanater: Fair enough, I guess I just clicked through that bit without even thinking about it as I don't have a business. But if I was to start doing doordash or something like that, it wouldn't even occur to me to check my insurance or to notify them. But I guess that's just me.

            • +2

@jakentta: If car is insured as commercial, can claim its expenses as tax deductions

      • Why would you assume that?

I think this market is saturated. Had a couple of people I know sign up and never got any jobs through it.

chances are you are about to lose

That's why you have to chase your loses. Don't want to quit one trade before the big win.

You'll be better served job hunting full time until you find something

    • +1

Spend the time to get your CV out to any places who specialise in accounting recruitment and contracting for same. If you're out delivering uber eats or whatever your not going to have the time or maybe even the energy after work to do this.

Have you any mates that might have some labouring or entry level work available?

Or can you do car wash, garden, handyman type work for cash in your area?

or go bin-diving for return & earns.

Go dumpster diving for scrap metal.

    Do a good de-cluttering & sell on ebay/FB

    • Okay I've got two shopping bags of scrap metal, a few scratches and a sore that my doctor says might be tetanus… now what?

      • Go to the scrap metal yard or maybe watch some of the YT vids on the most efficient way to prepare scrap metal for maximum return for minimum effort? Maybe some early "Mike The Scavenger" or "The Ultimate Recycler" or Ian Matthews or even my dead channel "Bondi Scrapper" where I mainly show what not to do.

I don't strip wire less than 2.5mm diameter and if it's "difficult" wire I don't bother.

        I don't actively collect steel but it's a handy bi-product.

I do break down power points, power boards, light switches and plumbing products for brass.

Your best time/return value is stuff that doesn't need prep such as car batteries, bare copper pipes, attachment wire, low grade insulated copper wire.

My return is $5-$10/hour which is crap money if you can earn $40/hr doing something else but great if you are unemployed and desperate. I do it because I enjoy pulling things apart without the responsibility of having to re-assemble it again.

After I was made redunant in 2024, I decided I needed a circuit breaker to get my health back on track (by the end I was working ~10hrs daily due to understaffing, developed insomnia, anxiety, gained weight, etc.) so I went on gumtree and found a job ad for a removalist company 10mins from my house.

Called them up and met with the boss that afternoon, got offered a job as a casual off-sider for $35/hr. Best decision I made at that point, it was hard work but the amount of exercise I got, the travel I did every day, the different people I met, the diverse nature of the work (removalist, delivery, construction, logistics, warehouse work) and the 6am-2pm hrs meant I had plenty of time in the arvo to do my own things. It also helped fix my insomnia and anxiety issues.

It was also a casual job so when I started interviewing back in my field, I could easily take a half-day off to take care of that. Eventually I found a role back in my field but would still do the ocassional weekend shift with them when work is busy.

heavy lifting is associated with permanent back injuries - as an IT teacher I had several 35yo-ish students who told me they had worked as labourers until their boss told them to lift something too heavy - 'click'

now they live with pain and are looking for a desk job

so watch out for awkward lifts - I've read that a surprisingly common spinal injury is getting out of the driver's seat of a car - swinging your legs out to the ground, then twisting the torso to reach back across to pick up a bag of shopping from the passenger seat - easy - permanent damage - beware …

      • +2

Oh we're definitely careful with heavy lifting and proper posture - one wrong move and you're messed up for a few days.

I go to the gym regularly as well so I know what my limits are. In this kind of work, trying to show off and lifting with your ego trying to look good will just do more damage than good.

        • +1

Just made me realise how important going to gym can be, just to better know when an innocent manouver at home or shops is actually about to ruin you!

  • Register with recruiters and say you're open to contract and you might find a short term contract. Way better than a lot of the stuff going around.

  • +7

Check out a show called Breaking Bad…

It may inspire you to start your own independent film production company.

  • Escort work apparently pays a lot and it doesn't necessarily include rude stuff. Kind of like rent a friend. Don't have to provide "benefits".

Can you tutor? No law says you have to be a teacher to tutor. Lots of kids access math tutors for example. Most lecturers at uni aren't qualified teachers, just knowledgeable in their field.

Another thread suggested some learner drivers struggle to find people to supervise them for the 100 hours practise they have to do. Not required to be driving instructor to provide this service (presuming you have a car?)

Can you tutor? No law says you have to be a teacher to tutor.

Just gotta stay one lesson ahead of the kid!

      • In theory, even if you make mistakes, the kid isn't going to know.

  • Computer lessons for the computer literacy challenged? (Suggest target old people?)

  • Tutoring for industry specific software you know how to use?

My mum (really old) got lessons in how to use all her iCrap and word, excel, some apps using ipencil to write on iPad screen and convert to text. How to clear cache, cookies, run malware program. Basic computer stuff.

  • what is your next ideal opportunity?

    • Same occupation just looking for a really good company culture that I will enjoy going to work for.

      • +3

Is that possible in commercial finance?

  • Forklift driver, traffic controller, garbo.

Get qualified in 3 days. Have at it.

  • +2

Have you considered Sydney trains driver jobs? Apparently, they pay 200K now.

    • Is your diet all fishing tackle, or do you mix it up?

    • Well you have to join the GD union

  • Use the time to get certifications or take courses for your future job. One of the best investments (even if it is just time) is in yourself.

  • I can refer you and coach you on UberEats, nice sign up bonus to grab before you get a real job

  • Sports betting.

  • best option is uber tbh with a good amount of income, dont do it at night and there shouldn't be any issues

  • Matched betting! Especially if you are good with numbers. Thousands of $ in first few months.

    • Made me think of professional gambler.

Man good with numbers should be able to rock the blackjack and poker tables if you can bluff and read the room (and count cards?)

  • Do you need to do anything to get "redundant" ? Asking for a friend 😁

    • Lots of companies and gov departments doing it in the last year or 2.

I got let go from my government job and got about a year's pay all at once on the day I left.

TLDR: OP is a finance and accounting professional asking random strangers for advice on money

    • Well on that note, OP should go cut lawns because it is second nature.

      • Is that anything like a nature strip or are you suggesting OP could become a stripper?

    • They never said they were a professional

  • Feeling risky?

Create a pyramid scheme BTC buying bot that will be splitted into 5 segments and buy more in as it goes down lower or as it goes up. Have 20% take profits and set it off running for ever and always take out profits on the cross downs

This will only not work when BTC crashes and never rises ever again, but as long as there always goes back up eventually, abielt it take can over a year to come back up it will work out.

    example

white lines is always the break even point after making an entry.

Cash in on the NDIS gravy train.

  • When I was off work for a year due to injury and got really bored i made a kind of jobs wanted ad on Facebook marketplace and advertised myself as a general labourer.

I think after a few months i got a hit and did a day of construction cleaning to see if I could handle it.

    I couldn't but was a fun experience.

Guy was pretty nice and told me a bit about what it's like owning a small business with health insurance and stuff.

Glad to hear that Workcover were cool with this.

      • It was a brain injury so don’t be harsh

      • +1

Oh work cover only did 5 months I think maybe less but in reality I needed minimum 9 months so when work cover was over and I was feeling guilty at home i started looking for something before my work eventually called me back.

Yeah nah I didn't do this during work cover period I could barely walk to the toilet at the time.

    1.) Create a X/Twitter Account
2.) Put in the BIO that you support Israel and Palestine is a fake state.
3.) Post some old pics for Oct 11 of the Nova Festival and ask the world how this is ok?
4.) You will be contacted within 2mins by an NGO and ask you to repost their propaganda whereby you'll earn good money based on visibility.
5.) A fat buffoon called Drew Pavlou did this and his now posting non-stop Israeli propaganda here to sway political view and societal view towards Israel

China also pays very well for social media posts if you post the same video as 37 other influencers promoting a new 'hidden gem utopia' city called Chongqing with the same script read out word for word as all the other influencers, while pretending that you legitimately went there for an innocent holiday and were suprised how all the 'western propaganda' is incorrect. Downside is you'd have to go to China to do this.

      • lol yeah alot of rubbish on social media,
have you seen those extremely hot girls in bikinis promoting $SOLana and other cryptos?

        • I actually deleted my FB account purely because it's 80% advertising/spam garbage, and try to avoid everything else other than a quick IG meme check, so luckily not..

    1) Create Twitch account
    2) Put in BIO that you support Palestine and Israel is the oppressor
    3) Post some videos of Hamas recruitment / propaganda
    4) You will within minutes have millions of bot follows and be approached by NGO for paid promotion
    5) A millionaire communist called Hasan Piker does this regularly to sway political and societal views towards Palestine

  • -if you are good with people & can drive, uber & it's competitors
-if you want to minimise human interaction, uber eats & it's competitors
-You could also lean into your area of expertise in commercial finance accounting, is there any small gigs you can offer on fiverr/airtasker?
-Otherwise, keep browsing airtasker for odd jobs you can do i.e. cleaning, gardening, dog sitting, or whatever you are comfortable doing. When i have some spare time on a weekend or afterwork i tend to jump on airtasker and see what jobs are going in my area, i've had varied degrees of success however I know that if I was full time committed to it I'd get a lot more jobs.
