      ditto, it's solid. no complaints.

      • ~20cm, but one end is permanently attached to the dock

Are you able to provide any alternatives? I haven't seen anything remotely similar for less than $100

Thats not really available locally, nor from a reputable brand

@SkanKoala: Feel free to do your own research. Is UGREEN reputable enough for you?

@aveeno bb: That ugreen is 60hz?

            • +8

@aveeno bb: That doesn't say Thunderbolt, just USB C.

              • +3

@AustriaBargain: Correct. I have one of these for home use with my Intel based work laptop that has TB4. It does work well except for one caveat. When connected to a monitor at 60hz (or any standard frequency such as 50hz or 30hz), it will only output in limited RGB range. Basically this means that the RGB values from 0 to 15 (out of 255 max) will be raised to 16 resulting in a washed out image. This only happens on Intel gpu's connected via hdmi if the gpu can't determine if the display can do full RGB. You can't force it to full RGB as it's connected to the dock in DP alt mode, and the Intel driver locks out the option for full RGB mode.

The workaround for me was to create a refresh rate that was 59hz and wallah, back to full RGB and 4:4:4 chroma. Also persists between reboots.

              • @AustriaBargain: Yeah that's what I said, USB-c

            • @aveeno bb: This one can only display same content on both external screen with MacOS though

      • Best bet is to buy lenovo/dell/hp from facebook marketplace.

    • 4k@120hz output? Yeh right where?

    • well like to buy cheap crap Belkin is the best of cheap crap. But people will buy it because its cheap.

  • Looks to be not much cheaper than the regular price for the Dock Core https://www.harveynorman.com.au/belkin-thunderbolt-3-dock-co…

    • +12

      It’s like 30% cheaper than your link…

  • +6

FYI I bought a secondhand one 3 years ago and the display output has started to glitch randomly at 4k60 (disconnect and reconnect). It's stable if I drop the resolution so must be some kind of signal integrity issue.

    • +3

Thanks for sharing. 3 years of use from a secondhand product is pretty good I’d say. Were you using it daily?

      • +2

Yep daily. It's not a bad lifetime but would've expected longer considering the price back then, and the fact it just sits on the table - certainly expect a computer to last 5 years plus.

        • Fair enough. It seems like every dock has overheating problems that eventually lead to failure.

    • I think, that's a general issue with these USB docks with PD. My partner also has the problem with a completely different dock, and I read reviews online about similar things happening. It seems to be some bad circuitry around HDMI + PD.

  • +6

FWIW I’d bought two of these in September. One failed in October, Belkin support asked me to take videos of the problem etc. not too bad.
But it took around 3 months to get my refund.

The other one works fine so far, no issues on a MacBook Air M3 with 2x external QHD displays (note MacBook must be in clamshell mode to run 2x external displays in extended mode)

    • Do you know if an M2 pro can run two external displays using this dongle in clamshell mode? I could swear I tried this with a Ugreen hub from Amazon not long ago and it didn’t work. Now I’m doubting it, maybe I did something wrong somehow.

So you’re using this one dongle to output to two monitors?

      • Sorry this is my first ever mac, I'm only familiar with the display configuration nightmare associated with the M3 Air :)

So you’re using this one dongle to output to two monitors?

Yes, two monitors in extended mode, but only when the mac air lid is closed - when the lid is open only one external monitor is active.

        • I have an m2 macbook air, connected to an alogic dock, which outputs to monitors, plus original display remains on. The dock is over $200 though.

          • +2

@BewareOfThe Dog: m2 air can only drive a single external monitor, unless your dock is a displaylink dock

          • +1

@BewareOfThe Dog: Is it simple plug and play or do you need to install anything? I read up on DP Alt mode last year but can't remember if there's a neat way to do it

Could you post a link to your specific Alogic unit please - If it's a pfaff-free setup I'd be very interested.

Edit: this is one of the big drawbacks switching from Windows to Mac. On my old machines I'd just plug into the Thinkpad dock and it worked, 3 external displays plus laptop screen. Longtime Mac users tell me I don't NEED to use more than two screens; my eyes can't help but roll.

            • @andresampras: I had to install display dock Link. ;)

              • +1

@BewareOfThe Dog: Here is the link at $224.96AU. Not sure about shipping costs or time.

                • +1

@BewareOfThe Dog: Cheers. Couple more qs if you don't mind:

Was setting up DisplayLink easy enough?
And is the end result reliable?

                  • +1

@andresampras: It's MacOS, Everythings easy. LOL Yes it was an easy install. In sometimes find one of myb monitors does not come on every now and then (Lenovo D32U40?), so I have to switch it off or unplug it. The Samsung Smart Monitor, never has issues.

  • I’ve got a Framework 13 laptop and am using 2 additional 1080p screens.

Bought a NOVOO USB C Laptop Docking Station Triple Display, 14 in 1 USB C to Dual 4K60Hz HDMI Adapter with 8K@30Hz DP, USB C/A Ports, 100W PD, RJ45, SD/TF, Audio, Multiport USB C Hub for MacBook/Dell/HP/Lenovo

It works but seems my laptop GPU struggles a bit.

Only use it for work but sometimes when I have some large spreadsheets open, is see some glitches.

Would buying the Belkin unit solve these issues?

    • +1

I think it should. The Framework 13 laptop. GPU should easily drive two 1080P monitors, so the issue is likely the Novoo adapter.

  • I find the glitching is worse when I don't shut down fully and after 2 days, it becomes risky as Excel document becomes unviewable (sic).
Excel is still alive in the background but the excel windows go blank so you can't even save the document as the dialog boxes that come up are blank.

  • +2

Does anyone know whether this comes with a power connection, or do you provide it with the 60W to pass through?

For my mind, a "docking station" should be self powered, otherwise this is a glorified "dongle". It's unclear from the description. Thanks.

    • +2

I looked on youtube and it doesn't seem to have it own power adapter, otherwise, why would in their marketing keep referring to the 60W pass-through? I agree this is more a dongle than a dock.

      • +1

No PSU included. You need to supply this component. More of a dongle as you say. But for $59, its still a good price. Just picked one up from my local officeworks

    • There is a usb-c power port. The power can pass through to your laptop/computer, so it's better than a dongle. Comparing to a Dell dockstation, it has less heat. I use it often, but I haven't connected it for very long time, so I can't say if the power delivery is stable for long time use. I seems solid quality.

  • +4

I was tempted but the reviews on Amazon aren't great.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Belkin-Thunderbolt-Transfer-Upstre…

    • +3

I do wonder how many of the 1 star reviews have plugged them into a standard usb c port that doesn't support DisplayPort Alt Mode?

    • That's exactly what I said and I got negged by the Ozgang lol

  • Picked one up, thank you.

  • Question - any docks available to connect two external monitors to a 2024 Macbook Air?

    • I assume you have an M3?

Natively it can only do that if your laptop's lid is closed: https://support.apple.com/en-au/117373

But if you want to use 2 external monitors with the lid open you'll have to get something like DisplayLink Manager: https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/down…

    • You need to get one with DisplayLink or Wavlink build-in. Or you could buy the USB adapters separately.

    • I use a Dell UD22 with my M1 Macbook Air, it is displaylink compatible so once you install the displaylink software on your mac you can run multiple monitors without having to be in clamshell mode. Works perfectly, can't tell the difference between it and using any other dock. You can find it new for $200 at Centrecom, I got mine used for about $120 on ebay.

  • Questions - Which are good but reasonably priced laptops that can do dual 4K 60Hz with a dock like this? Can be MacBook or Windows.

    And not via DisplayLink.

  • can you daisy chain with this dock?

  • Got one. Thanks OP.

  • Got this and it failed me after 2 years! good luck with your purchase guys and if possible, add an extended warranty on it.

  • Got one a few weeks back and constantly had glitching issues with the HDMI. I am using a HP Spectre x360 and connecting to a dell monitor via HDMI (through the dock). Returned it to officeworks thinking it was a a faulty unit and got another one. Still have the glitching issues albeit a little bit less frequent. TO fix it I have to unplug the HDMI cable from the dock and plug it in again. Pain.

  • +1

Thanks for the comments guys. Looks like it’s not worth the hassle. I’ll cancel the order then.

  • sounds quite unusual to me personally having bought a number of docks, is this the norm now?

Q: Does this dock come with a power supply?
    1 Answer
A: Hi, Daddio. The package does not come with a power supply.
    Belkin Support

  • +1

hmm 60W a bit on the low side

    • I was about to get one and read that on the specs agree with you

      • yeah even 100W would only trickle charge the work laptop and take like 6hrs to fill - though that's probably fine

    • Probably more suited to general office/school laptops. If one needs more power, one should go for a dock with its own power adapter. At this price, just treat it like a usb-c dongle.

  • Own it. Recommend it.

Not as powerful or capable as my Ivanky Fusiondock, but also a hell of a lot cheaper.

  • Thank you OP! Just picked one up in OW Pitt St, Sydney!

Been looking for a cheap TB3 or 4 dock since my M1 Pro MacBook can't do dual screen via my Lenovo USB-C dock.

Typical Apple. My 5-year old Lenovo laptop happily drove 2x 4k @ 60 Hz via that dock.

  • My order Officeworks Joondalup was cancelled and refunded.

  • Just picked up one from the local OW. It didn't work on my MBP M2 Max. The external screen "blinks" every 5s or so. It goes blank then displays again then goes blank again after ~ 5s nonstop.

    • it works with my MBP M1 Pro. You probably have got a faulty unit.

  • Does anyone know if the 60w passthrough is enough to charge a laptop normally powered by a 65w charger?

I don't want the 'slow charger' message.

    • +1

I have used it on two Dell Vostra laptops. I used the charger with the machine without the 'slow charger' message.

      • Do your Dell laptops take the 65w charger?

  • ‘It comes in a black colourway.’

Black colourway? That’s what we’re calling it these days?

  • How does this compare with the deal here? - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/889154

    • Different technologies. The other one uses Displaylink I.e. software based video outputs while this one provides hardware based ie native outputs. Normally you only want to go with DisplayLink if you have to, because it’s generally slower and lower quality than native ones.

  • Thanks, got one and it works fine with my MBA M3 and Dell Latitude with 4k@60hz plus a couple of USB peripherals (mouse/keyboard/webcam).

  • Will this be a good fit for a Mac Mini M4?
Want to buy it as a gift but don't know enough about tech.

    • It would work, but why would you connect this to something that's not portable? That's unless you want to move the mac mini around.
This is mostly for convenience for laptop users as it would just be a single cable to plug/unplug if you move it around.

  • I connect my laptop to two screens, one via hdmi and one via DP (since that’s the port on the dock) it only displays one screen. I tried on a MacBook, same issue. The. I have a cheap dongle I got on Amazon and it does display both but it’s only 30hz. Any ideas?

    • connect to dell laptop, single external screen was used, went to display setting. changed settings. works fine with 2x4k 60hz

  • Just an FYI the Officeworks I went to that said it had stock, there was no shelf spot for it, it was out the back. So if the website says it’s in stock and you can’t find it, ask for help.

  • Got one yesterday. Using it with my Macbook Pro 14 M1 Pro and two QHD monitors @60hz as extended displays. Works fine in both clamshell mode or laptop screen opened. haven't observed any issues so far, hope it last long.

  • +1

I have this dock and its the worst, the Blue light constantly keeps fading and losing connection to source.
This is after less than 12 months of use, at $50 more than worth it i'd say.

  • Just ordered on.

Hopefully will work with my Macbook Air M3.

If not, easy to refund officeworks and has a 2 year warranty.

Now, as the Macbook Air M3 doesn't have a traditional USB-C Charger, can anyone recommend a small USB-C charger to power this and charge my MB Air?

Doesn't have to powerful, the original Macbook Air M3 charger is only 30w anyway.
