    That's a good price

  • +2

    Very nice price indeed

  • Haha, I had just searched past 0zB prices for these and the xm5.

    • And?

      • +2

$284 just before Christmas although Sony eBay has frequently sold seconds and refurbs for $254.
But the best price around at the moment,

        • I got mine as a seconds product, and it came in perfect quality! Was very pleased.

  • +5

I swear by these. I love my MX4s.

    • -1

They are useless on bus's with noise reduction turned on. Make all these loud explosion noises. It's something to do with a combination of bumps due to hard suspension and air pressure in a closed bus.

      • +8

Maybe you have a faulty pair, nobody wants explosions! I'd go for a warranty claim. Have you tried sitting in a different seat or opening the bus window!

        • I didn't know modern buses were allowed to have opening windows

      • What's the noise cancellation like at home?

      • +6

Something is wrong with your pair. I use mine all the time with public transport and they are fantastic.

      • Hmm I didn't have this issue with my old xm2

      • +1

I use my pair almost exclusively on the bus and I don't experience the issues you're describing. The only problem I do have is when the bus goes over really big bumps and the audio goes a bit wobbly but it's a minor issue.

      • +1

Definitely get yours checked if you are still under warranty. Mine have never let me down on public transport and they've held up really well on flights too.

      • +1

I've sometimes had a similar issue with the MX3s. In my case it was the inner layer of foam was a bit loose. The sound of it moving is very loud. Can be fixed by opening up the cans and re-adjusting / resetting the foam layer.

      • +1

I have this exact issue, the mic also doesn't work

      • +1

I had something similar, it was a pain to speak to sony support, but they eventually agreed to repair/replace the for free.
They said it was a repair, but it came with all new serial number and MAC address, so I think they just replaced them.

        • @Sekhmet2077 was this under warranty?

  • Not ATL, but very good price if you are waiting to grab one now.

Do you think Officeworks would price match at $291.50 to take it down to $276.93 with their 5% price beat?

    • No… You used a coupon

    • +6

They would match at $301.50 (listed price) down to $286.43

      • +1

My local include. Shipping aswell :(
Took them 30mins to verify the price beat and hand me the product. JB is so much faster. I took them because I wasted alot of time just waiting for them to approve.
Got them at $295.88 from office with price beat including shipping.

  • I've got an old pair of WH-1000XM2's.

Are these worth the upgrade? My old one works fine, but I'm going to Europe later in the year and that's a fair bit of flight time there and back so I'm pondering whether it's worth upgrading to something newer and better or if my current set will do.

    • +2

      Yes. Definitely

    • +2

Even XM3s would be a very good upgrade - I've had mine for many years and the battery life is still great. I also have 2 pairs of the MS Surface2, one at work, one at home, but always take the XM3 in the car and while on planes. The noise cancelling is notably better than the Surface cans - and smaller/closer to the head, which makes a difference on a plane.

    • maybe try and find some on ebay if you wanna save a bit, thats what i did and got a pair of xm4's for $180 1 year ago

  • Thanks OP
possible flushing inventory ahead of XM6 announcement soon-ish

Still love the foldable design, with on par noise-cancellation with XM5

    • +12

Catch is flushing inventory ahead of their closing in April.

    • +1

Catch will close before the WH-1000XM6 release, despite pre-prod units are already in cert. (Think announce in May or so, and then release after.)

Note the XM5 and XM6 (at least what I saw) hinges dont allow for folding to my recollection.

Good price, but after getting the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones for $198.95, I’m not interested in any other headphone deals.

    • That was a short lived pricing error it seem.

    • +1

Wtf how did I miss this? Now I'm annoyed.

  • +5

They are great, but NEVER sweat in them. The slightest bit of moisture will damage the microphones and result in ear splitting high pitch screaming.

    • +1

In their defence they are marketed as commuter headphones not work out ones. Mine have survived a number of hot summer days in the sun with definite sweat, maybe there's an unlucky weak spot for moisture.

  • I really hope they don't discontinue these, I actually much prefer them over their newer XM5 counterparts, both for sound profile, portability and general comfort. XM5s are still good but these just seem to win out.

Also can we just appreciate we have premium, flag ship level headphones with active noise cancellation, its own carry case and accessories for under $300? Its been a while since I have seen a product progress its affordability in a really long time… these were what like $600-700 when released?

    • these were what like $600-700 when released?

$550 AUD, probably wouldn't have been so highly recommended if it was $600-$700

  • I was able to price match online at jbhifi for $301

    • Bro, look below.

    • Don't they add shipping fee on top? I'm thinking of doing the same since I have some gift cards

      • Clicked and collected, was ready very qucik

  • +6

Was able to price beat at Officeworks and picked one up for $285.95. Cheers.

    • Which officeworks location?

      • Hunter St location in Sydney CBD

    • My local include. Shipping aswell :(

    • I did the price beat at officeworks too. Got them for $286. The guy who put it through said that catch and officeworks are the same parent company (wesfarmers) so no resistance to price beating. He also said there's no lower limit to price match - sounds like they would even price match egregious price errors. I did try thegoodguys first because I have a gift card there, but they would only go down to $310. He showed me on his PDA if he tried to make it $305 it refused saying "price too low"

  • Catch gon shut on April..! Target next I guess

  • How do they compare to Bose Quiet Comfort $178.20? here

  • Great headphones but just a heads up, I don't believe you will be able to pair these with a Samsung TV. Something to do with a dispute with Sony and Samsung. Returned my mum's pair because of this and got my mum some Bose instead.

  • My ears become very hot using these

  • -6

Nearly caught me. Just notice it is XM4 instead of XM5 so I cancelled my upvote.

    • Audio products don't quite age like other technology, some people(myself included) prefer the sound profile of the XM4s. Not always the case of course, but generally speaking for audio newer product does not necessarily mean better.

Also if you only care about decent headphones just a warning that the XM5s don't pack up nearly as neatly as the XM4s do and they take a bit more cargo space in your bag.

  • -1

Not a fan of sony after using the xm5’s. QC ultras are way better imo

    • It seems you've been downvoted by a bunch of Sony fanboys because even RTINGS think they're better: https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/sony-wh-1000…

      • Yeah, and having quite a few issues with them too. Ghost touches after 20 mins of use which make them unusable. Sony customer service is useless

        • Touch controls on pretty much anything except phones and tablets are sh*t. I find it baffling why the world seems intent on sticking them into everything else from cars to headphones when some simple buttons work a lot better.

      • Maybe cause the comment was about two headphones both of which are not listed in this bargain? Like the price points are so totally different from whats been posted the advice isn't even really useful for people open to other options.

  • Are these better than the Bose QC45 in terms of sound?

  • any suggestions for a good set of replacement ear pads?

  • I had these and loved them till I got the known battery drain issue. Hopefully they have fixed it. https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=872822d4cb398566&rlz=1…

    • +1

I looked at your link and I didn't see anything mentioning a battery drain issue on the WH-1000XM4. It is only the WF-1000XM4 that is mentioned.

  • My ears itched and the surrounding area in contact with the pads also itched when I wore the XM5s for five minutes at a time. I dunno if it’s with the material of the ear pads. Wondering if these have the same issue so I’m quite hesitant to buy these. Anybody experienced the same thing?

  • do people think the xm5's look a bit silly

  • What's the advantage of these over the Bose QuietComfort which seem to be more comfortable and have better mic and sound? Because Sony's have better ANC?
